I don't think the Virgin Mary forgot when Christ was born I think that if she wanted to reveal the actual date to the early Church she would have. Yet the early Church did not claim that Christ was born on December 25th. Lupi has shown (Zaccaria, Dissertazioni ecc. del p. A.M. Lupi, Faenza, 1785, p. 219) that there is no month in the year to which respectable authorities have not assigned Christ's birth. As Christmas was unknown to the early Christian writers, it must have been introduced sometime after 300. Irenaeus and Tertullian omit it from their lists of feasts. This is not to say that we should not celebrate the incarnation of God himself but that perhaps the priest should provide more substantial reasons as to why he believes that the specific date we celebrate on is the actual date Christ was born.
