Mike, I'm a retired M.D. The hospital needs to be made aware of the ER doctor's lack of the appropriate diagnosis and treatment. If this is an isolated event, the hospital won't do much. However, if there are multiple complaints/events with this doctor, the hospital can take action to insure quality of care. I would contact the patient advocate or Quality Assurance Dept. at the hospital. For the surgeon. To locate a foreign body(the casing fragment), after local anesthesia is administered( numbing you up), two fine needles are aimed at the fragment using x-ray guidance to pinpoint the location. So the surgeon does not have to "dig around" while you're awake. He can numb down and go directly to the fragment following the fine needles as a guide. I apologize for the treatment you received. Your description of events was cringeworthy from a medical perspective. This was 1970's medicine. The hospital needs to bring their medical staff into 2021. Alternatively, you could just take me on all of your adventures! I could be your "Medical Control Officer". lol

Unfortunately, medical schools are becoming more political and quality of care is circling the drains. I'm on an MD track. That's been my life's focus for my entire life...but more recently, I've been less sure because I don't like what I'm seeing. I care more about patients and quality care than I care about quantity. So it's less about "modern medicine" versus "antiquated methodologies" and more about early graduations, improper performance screening, and a system that is broken by big pharma and political interests in insurance companies.

A Dr of mine told me once that there aren’t as many students going into the field of medicine, not going into Dr fields and there a lot of different kinds of Dr’s. Cuz of how expensive it is, how many years spent in college and then residency, and how it’s not all it’s cracked out to be money wise for many fields. Because of this the students who are in college/that field get passes left and right, will pass them with a D average, will allow multiple mess ups, multiple write ups, chance after chance. Yet when it comes to nurses/nursing school, it’s the opposite pretty much, it’s super hard to pass, you don’t get second chances, you’re flagged for the tiniest of things, don’t get passes like Dr students do, etc. He said, today your better off being seen by the nurse than the Dr, because many times the nurse knows more, she had to work twice as hard, she put in her best while that Dr was mediocre at best. And that there are many, many Dr’s he would not let touch him or receive advice from. He said “would you want a D average fuck up operating on you?” Ummm no sir, no I would not. Lol.

@@ninewectawski1935 The only rigorous thing about med school is the torturous and unnecessary sleep denial they put you through in the 3rd and 4th year clinical rotations. Literally, there's no point to doing that other than to make the student, and likely their patients, suffer. I truly don't understand that. I appreciate academic and clinical rigor, but to push people into dangerous levels of sleep deprivation? Kind of contradicts the Hippocratic Oath of "do no harm". We tell patients that proper sleep is crucial to a plethora of metabolic and physiological processes...and yet we don't heed our own words and then wonder why mistakes and burnout happen. Stupid is, as stupid does.

@@echofoxtrot2.051 I agree 100% Also, Dr’s talk to you about your weight, whether it’s being underweight or overweight, talk to you about smoking, how much you drink, your diet, etc. Yet so many Dr’s and Nurses are not in good health. They smoke, they drink in excess, dabble in night life recreational usage, have a horrible diet, are overweight, don’t exercise, etc. I have 2 different Dr’s, one is in a Dr’s office and the other is at our main hospital. 85% of all of the workers at both places the receptionists, nurses and Dr’s are overweight, smoke, and so on. And they are all over worked. The Dr’s are spread so thin, and their made to take on so many patients that they don’t have time to evaluate you or go over multiple issues to your having to break up these things and make multiple visits, n seeing a Dr isn’t cheap, so then it’s leaving patients/people not getting in to really see what’s going on with their body that leads to untreated issues and even death. I was talking with my Dr about wrist cuz I golf n it was giving me issues, we started chatting about golf and how much he enjoys it but never gets the time to go, even though he’s been a Dr for 23 plus years, in his late 50’s, n should be out enjoying life, yet he’s always in the office, and does charity work at a non profit clinic. I told him ya know so n so golf course does senior men’s league on this day at this time, if you don’t make the time now you will regret it later on when you no longer can play. About a week in a half later I got a call from his nurse to reschedule me at a different day and time cuz he changed his schedule to take Wednesday off. I chuckled and said “golf” and she replied yes how’d you know. It actually made me feel good inside. Everyone deserves time to themselves to enjoy the little things, especially in a job/career where your whole career is based off taking care of others. You have to take time for yourself or you will get burned out, that goes for any job/career, even parenthood.

Great video, and glad you're ok now. I can't stand incompetent doctors. Ran across a few of em myself over the years. Back around '87, I was hit right under the ball of the ankle with a medium large stingray. He got me really good & deep in all those ligaments & small bones. ( A hit higher up in the meat of the calf would've been much less dangerous. ) So what did these 2 bone-head doctors do? They soaked my foot in that red stuff that looks like blood, gave me antibiotics & sent me home with a follow-up appt with a different doctor, a foot doctor. My ankle swelled the size of a grapefruit, and VERY nasty & painful. This foot doctor blew his top when we told him what those doctors did. He said that was THE WORST treatment, and made the wound WORSE too. He said Epsom Salts is what they should've used right away. But because of their negligence, my foot & ankle got really bad, and they nearly had to amputate it. They gave me 3 more days for the swelling & infection to start subsiding substantially. By the Grace of God, it finally started to make a good turn around.

I wonder if a 6-8" domed shield above the firing mechanism would work? Some type of see through armored glass?

You should do a catch and cook for gar. A lot of people don't realize when the Native Americans were being run off their land in Florida and in swampy areas around the coastal U.S. back in the day, when they were being driven into the swamps one of their main sources of protein was garfish and Gars absolutely delicious if cooked the right way. Mad respect staying awake on your operation.

*_I must admit, my reasons for joining the army were nothing patriotic. It was healthcare & free education.🤷I was new to the U.S from Ireland & I told my new wife who was pregnant with twins that I may never even be deployed as the situation was pretty peaceful in 2000. Boy, how quickly that all changed. I had 6 kids by the time I got out. {4 of my 9 siblings have twins & I am a twin & I have 2 sets of twins with my darling wife, plus 5 singles, lol. We call it Catholic roulette😂} The cost of healthcare really is crazy. I had close to $100k worth of work as a result of a blood clot, so thank God for the VA. Really glad your ok though Mike. So bro, where in the world are these flashy bright iguanas native to? Is there somewhere that they are suited for & have been for all the centuries before coming to our shores? Tnx Mike._*

Nature of the job no doubt, bound to be a few hiccups once in a while. Absolutely good to see all's well that ended well. Speaking of risks... don't know if I could send my hunting dog out into gator waters, regardless of how good the dog was... just seems incredibly, incredibly risky(?)

So who shouted, "Holy Shite!" when the guy was loading the bang stick by pressing the head in while covering the barrel with palm of his hand?
@jrvane113 жыл бұрын
That fragment could've picked up flesh-eating bacteria from the gator, which would've compounded your troubles. Glad you demanded an x-ray. And thank you for the explanation of proper bangstick usage. I have one I use on sharks, as well as a gator stick that I haven't used yet. Happy I saw this video first!
@calvinh.88823 жыл бұрын
You should call that "Dr." and tell him he should get himself a metal detector and a pinpointer so that he can find metal objects without needing to do another X-ray in the middle of doing the surgery. lol. I'm kinda joking, but in a way, I'm not. If they just had a metal detector pinpointer he could have stuck it to the entry hole and it would let him know if there were bullet fragments in it.

I had an eye surgery where the doc told me he would out me to sleep numb my eye and then I'd wake up. He said that way you'll be awake and I can talk to you while i do the surgery. I said " you better knock me out, because if I see a knife coming towards my eye, I might knock you out!". Lmao. Crazy how things like this happen. You would never think that the fragments travel like they do. Really, you wouldnt think that much would scatter. Gonna have to start wearing a gator skin vest. Lol. Glad your alright, and just goes to show that no matter what or how careful you are, that anything could happen. Keep on keepin on buddy!

The medical field here in Wisconsin has tanked in quality in the last 6 years or so and totally went to shit in the last few. To top it off now a large % have left the field completely due to new 'requirements' leaving the ones that complied overworked and stressed. I avoid the system completely if I can. I'm glad you are ok. I'm glad that doc appologized. Interesting video as always.
@roseyannette20302 жыл бұрын
It is all over the USA, not just Wisconsin, trust me. I've lived in several states and it is the same everywhere, such a shame. It also scares the crap out of me, if a loved one is in a life or death situation and this is the doctor they get?? OMG! START PRAYING! I do not want this nincompoop's hands on me, or my loved ones, what do we do? Sadly, there is not much, except SPEAK UP! If it does not feel "right" to you, do not give in, get yourself taken seriously and taken care of properly. Doctors are NOT Gods, they need to be told they aren't from time to time AND we also need to realize it. Even if they are GREAT doctors, they are human, they are not miracle workers and no body is perfect. It cuts both ways.
