I bought the Tobisho pair a few months ago. They are unbelievably beautiful and a joy to cut with and even look at. I am absolute amateur and DIY gardener, but I like a good tool. I have not seen anything remotely good as them. I have Felco 2, Corona, Shtil, Fiskas and Wilkinson secateurs. Nothing like the Tobisho ones. Veeeery expensive, but always a joy to work with. Why compromise?

I believe @FrankEdavidson is right. Some light corrosion from the brass electrolyte reaction, which is fine. I'm sure they are superb. Likely not welded but forged, which means they are made from a single piece of steel (handle and blade). Similar to how 3 Claveles forged scissors are made. The Niwaki Sentei are then two pieces of forged steel, one spring and one bolt with Tobisho adding rubber dipping technique for grip/flourish. Anyway... enjoy them. You can't beat forged, hammered, hardened crafted tools.

The tobisho: cast handle brazed to forged blade of high carbon steel. The handles are covered with removable vinyl sheaths, not dipped.

Love the video I have Felco 2 and i love them but you can hear the quality of these I might be putting a bit of money away for these

Felco pruning shears get on my nerves with those latches nuisance-latching all the time. I wish I had got the Felco 8 as they have a better line than the Felco 2. If I'm making a lot of cuts, e.g. chopping up green stems for the compost heap my hand keeps moving toward the blade and I lose purchase.

I would really recommend looking at another Japanese brand....Okatsune .......come in at around £56...very similar design ...and awesome .

He gardens for a living so getting top grade equipment is important to him, not getting cheaper tools. I'm sure he saw Okatsune tools on the site when he bought these.

@@FrankEdavidson Okatsune start at the same price as Felco. Far from cheap

Okatsune and Tobisho are both great tools. Different price points between the two. And they likely perform with variations in different hands and with different jobs. The choice could be very personal indeed.

It looks like there is a brass nut on the Tobisho. If so that might account for their finish deteriorating. Brass in contact with steel will cause the steel to corrode faster as the steel is more anodic. (Galvanic corrosion)

Corrosion's no problem as long as it's properly cared for.
@FrankEdavidson4 жыл бұрын
@@j.esgardens5405 Galvanic corrosion corrodes metal regardless of the care one gives. In use one cannot avoid salts (electrolytes) and water which are intrinsic in plant tissue and in the UK there's always humidity in the air. Perhaps I'm being cynical but I assume the forge would know about galvanic corrosion and metallurgy, so is this a ploy to get repeat purchase?

@@FrankEdavidson i still have my grandmother's secateurs which are over 40 years old and have brass contacting the metal with no issues. I'm sure the Japanese know what they are doing.

@@FrankEdavidson man, let me tell zou once thing... as a gardener, it doesnt matter which Scateurs zou use, thez will all corrode if zou dont treat them properly, i use in my daily basis a Felco 2 just because it doest matter which scateurs you use, if you work proffesionaly in this work your scateurs are going to be in contact with mud and little rocks causing the blade to deteriorate, that is why using a tool like felco 2 is made for the day by bz daz, because you can just change anything you need in seconds and continue your job... but a tool like Tobisho are one of the best Scateurs you can buy, the steel will have to be manteint with Camellia oil. The thing is that with this tool you can do a really precise and cclean job such as tree pruning.
