what is the difference between phrase and fragments?
@kspaans
@kspaans 3 ай бұрын
A phrase is a group of words that does not have a subject and a predicate. A fragment *can* have a subject and predicate. (It just won't express a complete thought.)

How can be same run on with comma splice?
@kspaans
@kspaans Ай бұрын
Hey there! I'm not entirely sure what you're asking, but a comma splice is one of many things that can create a run-on sentence. Here is an example of a comma splice: The grass is green, the sky is blue. This is a comma splice, which creates a run-on sentence. To fix this, you might write write one of the following: - The grass is green. The sky is blue. - The grass is green; the sky is blue. - The grass is green, and the sky is blue. Regardless, a comma splice is an error that creates a run-on sentence. There are other ways to create run-on sentences too; a comma splice is just one of them. I hope this answers your question!

Does predicate is verb ??
@kspaans
@kspaans 5 ай бұрын
A predicate *contains* a verb, but the two are not exactly the same thing! A verb is a single, individual word. Take a look at the following sentence: "My brother's dog ate my homework." The complete predicate is "ate my homework." The simple predicate is "ate." And the word "ate" is a verb. Let's look at one more: "Yesterday, my sister celebrated her twentieth birthday." The complete predicate is "celebrated her twentieth birthday." The simple predicate is "celebrated." And the word "celebrated" is a verb. I hope this makes sense!

How about this senteces, "They will try to make you unhappy, don't let them. They will try to tell you you're not free, don't listen." Are these sentences not run on?
@kspaans
@kspaans 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Because commands (sometimes called imperative statements) are technically considered sentences, yes, those would be run-ons. The proper punctuation would look something like this: "They will try to make you unhappy. Don't let them. They will try to tell you you're not free. Don't listen." Alternatively, you could write, "They will try to make you unhappy; don't let them. They will try to tell you you're not free; don't listen." Either way, commands like "Don't let them" and "Don't listen" are, in fact, sentences--so they need to have proper sentence boundaries. I hope this helps!
