When someone says "Bless Your heart" my brain interprets it to mean "It's amazing you are able to function in society given your complete lack of mental abilities and/or social skills." Edit - To clarify, I believe this is one of those very mutable phrases that can vary widely in both the speakers intentions and the receivers interpretations. This is simply what MY brain hears, it's likely yours hears something completely different.

It's all about your inflection and tone tho. I bet Matt could do a whole short on the various ways one can say "bless your heart" from being genuinely nice, to worried for you, to disgusted. Someone should definitely add this to the Southern bible Matt's blessing us with on this channel for real.

Was on a trip through a good portion of the south a few years ago. We were going through Birmingham when we got hungry. I got on yelp and found the best rated bbq joint I could find at the time. Was in the worst part of town. Tiny little shack. We were the only white people in a five mile radius. This little old grandpa took the order while his wife was hollerin at him about some nonsense and plating up our trays. Best damm bbq I have ever had. Wish I had written down the name of the place. Was so good and the people there were super nice and welcoming.

The whole, escorting them to the car thing resonated with me. Mostly because whenever it was 'time to go' my cousins and I would clean up our toys and wait paitently for our moms to finish saying good-bye and it seemed SO long, we'd take the toys back out to entertain ourselves and then we'd hear 'What are you doing? We're leaving' and have to wait seemingly forever again.

Best bbq I ever had was at a shack in the parking lot of the gas station/bar/pool joint/general store in the middle of the Ocala National Forest. It was only open for like 3-4 weeks (or maybe I just never hit it when the proprietor wasn't in said bar again, dunno). It was heavenly pulled pork on a white paper plate with slaw and tater salad. In the middle of July in FL it was heavenly with that beer (no clue what kind, maybe Landshark? or Bud?). I still ask myself if it was just a heat induced fever dream, but then remember that I ate there at least twice so it was real.

That gatlinburg line got me; my momma took my wife and I up to Dollywood a couple seasons ago and the traffic wasn't so bad for all that is there in Pigeon Forge; but passing through Gatlinburg on the way home to North Carolina we laughed at how CHOKED the streets of gatlinburg were; looked like NYC; I can't imagine a single restaurant serves you in any less than 1 hour, and all the gift shops are as full as an elevator at the mall

@@sallyphillips9175 Oh totally lol. I don't know the tourist appeal of it but my church youth group attended Winterfest which is in Gatlinburg so I was there for a weekend in February a few times, and enjoyed it while when were there. As a New Hampshire Yankee, I love listening to his guy. Also, I have absorbed “Y’all” into my lexicon, and I use it on the regular. [It’s useful. And honestly, many languages other than English actually have an “on the books” way to say plural you to groups. So “y’all” meets a need. I actually teach it to my English language learners. Yes, up here, up North in New England 😊]

In the South “all ya’ll” is the plural. Ya’ll is referring to one person. I learned that when I lived in South Carolina for a few years. And don’t ever refer to a shopping cart as a cart; it’s a “buggy” in the South. I got corrected every time I forgot and called it a cart. 😂

@@MysticMae21 Love some Publix hot wings! Collards kinda look like kale (not the curly kind). When cooked, they look kinda like turnip greens, I think. They tend to be served wetter and in smaller chopped pieces than spinach or kale. I’ve usually had them cooked with vinegar (and ham hock, which probably negates some of the health benefits, lol)

@@MysticMae21 Collards are a leafy veggie, looks similar to kale, that is super rich in vitamin K and tons of other vitmans as well. So what we do, like most dishes in the south, is absolutely decimate it with pork fat. Between the bacon, the smoked turkey leg, and the chicken stock we can overcome the natural healthiness of the plant. Seriously though, collards are fucking great. @@demonkingbadger6689 well, truthfully it’s really spelled “lox”. But most people spell it as locks. Lox is brined/smoked salmon. So, lox and bagels is an open face sandwich made with cream cheese, lox, and many people add thin sliced tomato and thin slice red onion. It’s an acquired taste and you will see it in Jewish Deli’s and available in many Jewish communities. I’m not Jewish, but live in the Historic District of Litchfield, CT. There is a Synagogue (Jewish Church) and a fair amount of Jewish people in the community.
