@KingKogi
@KingKogi Жыл бұрын
I try my very best to learn, understand, and respect the food culture wherever I go, as I think food is the window into the soul of a culture. Food teaches you about the history of a nation, family life, farming life, and so much more. I'm glad I've come across as respectful for all these years because I really do respect food and these cultures! 🙇‍♀

@@KingKogi hopefully in the future maybe some other Asian cultures like the Philippines would be so great!! Thank you for your response/reply!!! I was kinda not expecting it, but it warms my heart. I rarely say what I say, and it’s nice to find one of many that cares to be respectful; as I’ve seen a bit too many that aren’t. Two that comes to mind is a “chef” named Jamie Oliver who just makes me mad teaching westerners how to make our food, and literally mess it up or Jake Paul going in a Japanese area that you’re not supposed to go to!! If I could see you, I’d literally give you a honorary Asian card; because you try different things that some wouldn’t try at least once… and are respectful. Anywho I’m on a tad of a tangent, but you get what I mean!!! 🙏😊

Hi Martina! I've been watching you since 2008. Fun fact, you were actually the reason I wanted to get into teaching abroad. It was and is so nice that someone with the same conditions as me could travel and work. Sadly, although I did get my qualifications to teach, I haven't been able to do it yet because of my health hasn't allowed for it. Hopefully one day I can and if I can't, that's okay. It's important to have lots of little dreams rather than only having one big one and to be kind to yourself if there's any you can't achieve. What's important is that you stay hopeful and you celebrate what you can do and have done! It's so good to see you visiting Korea again, hopefully the fond memories outweigh the bad. Always so proud of you and inspired by you. ❤

So can’t help but wonder- which do you prefer? Korean style or Japanese style chopsticks? 🥢 are the ones in this video actually metal? Don’t they get searingly hot? I’m sure the difference is subtle. @KingKogi
@KingKogi Жыл бұрын
It depends on the situation! I have Korean chopsticks and spoons that I use in Japan for when I cook Korean food, as they hold up to the scalding boiling hot food much better, but they are much tougher to use as they are slippery. I think Japanese chopstick can be quite precise and pointed, but they might be stained by the kimchi colour and smell. So Korean chopsticks make sense to use with the intensity of Korean food, but I do wish they had different cute decorations!

@@KingKogiWoot woot our Korean chopsticks have cute decorations! We have ones with some kind of flowers and our favorite ones have leaves. Of course they are not as colorful etc as Japanese chopsticks can be, they are still mostly plain metal, but they can still have a little bit of cute and pretty ^___^ I love the "pointiness" of Japanese chopsticks but wood is not a very good material for utensils, it warps and stains and is not that hygienic. Metal reigns supreme. 💪😎 And the Korean chopsticks + spoon combo is the best! (And it's a "normal" spoon, I don't like the Chinese style short clunky impractical thing)

@@anna8282 Wood chopsticks are hygienic depending on the wood they are made out of. A lot of wood varieties are antimicrobial. Japanese chopsticks are usually made of bamboo and bamboo is pretty hygienic, its naturally germ repellent and is especially good for cutting boards. Steel chopsticks are good too, obviously easier to clean but it's a myth that wood utensils are bad or unhygienic. Obviously it depends on the type of wood used but it can actually be more hygienic than plastic because of the porosity of certain plastics. I use all bamboo cutting boards and have never gotten sick in 15 years of cooking.

OMG the best right? I've found some Korean recipes for it, but I'm never sure if it truly WILL have that almost BBQ smokey taste to it like they do at Mapo Mandu

I was hoping you would stop by the old EYK studio to see if the sign is still there! I'm happy to see it is. At this point can we just call it a national monument, and have it preserved?

This video made me misty-eyed. You practically raised me from ages 11-15 and gave me a strong foundation for knowing Korean culture and the language I know today. I'm currently almost 22 and I genuinely wouldn't be the same me today without you and your whimsical way of showing the world to us. Thank you for creating videos you can always watch on a bad day to feel at home.

This video took me wayyyyyyyyyyy back. Last time I was in Korea, it was 2012. I was watching you guys bcs you made Korea look sooo magical. I didn't have that good of an experience in the country anytime I was there, bcs of different things (ex-boyfriend drama, not speaking the language enough, being in the countryside more than Seoul, etc.). But the food....OMG. I miss it sooo much! I was in NYC a couple of years ago and went to Koreatown just so I can eat authentic Korean food. But they didn't refill the banchan and rice and I was so pissed! :D But at least I could eat the food.

Omg if you went to Bucheon, I'd cry if you met the cheese lady Memories aside, South Korea has great comfort food. When my mood is low, all I need is a bowl of bibimbap and bulgogi. And I know my day is gonna be great later on.

it is a lot more work for us to travel, what with us packing meds/wraps/mobility aids/pillows/ice packs and so on, but what I realized over time is that I don't need to push myself and get ill to have a good vacation or travel experience. We can enjoy travel as long as we accept our OWN pace. When I travel now, if I'm tired from the airplane trip, I no longer do the, "must be up early" to make "the most of my day". Instead I check my body and decide what I can do that day. It makes for a much more pleasant trip, and I no longer do any "pushing" myself. If all I can do is take a stroll outside the hotel and have a coffee or a simple meal, what a delight! I hope you'll give it a go one day, maybe start with a small local trip to a local town or city for two days!

I really enjoyed this video but it felt rushed. It felt more like a commercial for Korean food. If I had not already known what each food item was then I would have felt a bit cheated I didn't get to enjoy each one more with you. I wonder if you have any additional footage or out takes that you would be willing to share. It would be nice to see you sit down and enjoy a meal and just talk to us.......
