Deb, thank you for sharing with us all such simple, fun, right on presentations!

I appreciate Ron's and your ability to tie body movements to ski performance.

My two favorite ski instructors (and closely followed KZbin channels :) ) collaborate to create rock-solid content! This is an awesome idea 💡 would love to see more of this duo! The way how Ron points out a similarity between "separation" and "executing (trivial) tasks simultaneously", is quite enlightening. It is especially useful for people with a lot of old bad habits (alas, like myself) because we need analytical brain cues to compensate for lack of natural coordination talent.

Cool video. I've been given seperated body action exercises to do at the indoor ski centre where I train eg pole planting on only one side, then swapping sides, holding foam noodles in different positions while skiing, etc. This video reinforces the aim of them 👍😁

I love the idea of one foot ‘braquage’! I’m going to play with that! Also I never considered the idea of arm/torso separation per se, but I understand how that is an important aspect of a strong core. Thanks Ron for the insights and great vid Deb as always!

A++ statements! Been learning similar and in some cases the same from PSIA pros teaching us instructors pre season each new season and wow does it help me and from what I hear everyone else in our ski school too! Every vid and every lesson further us all! THANK YOU Deb and Ron for this simple to the point vid! It's great! I'll take this with me into the start of the new season which always includes it's share of icy slopes here at the top of Vermont! 💖

Deb, I think you’re on to something here. Could have the making of a sub-series of videos. and ski performance. - Preparation - Separation - Angulation - Intoxication (hahahahaha) - etc. Thanks for including other professional voices of the industry. I enjoy hearing how similar concepts, like sliding down a mountain, can be conveyed in different ways. Side question: Do you know if European training strategies are generally similar/different to USA training strategies?
@DebArmstrongSkiStrong4 жыл бұрын
Nice! As for the differences between European training and here, sure, differences everywhere, yet nuanced. like accents.

Hi Deb, thank you so much for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us skiing mere mortals. Your videos have helped me to get a better understanding of skiing and i try to practice whenever i get a chance. I really appreciate that you sharing all this so freely, not many do. Ron Kipp has another favourite channel for me. May i ask if possible to pass a message to Ron Kipp as his comments section is disabled. I really enjoy his Alphabet Series , the Dan and Ron show and iwas wondering when the next video will be ready.. and a suggestion for skiing videos..here in the UK we are stuck with dry slope skiing, it would be interesting to know if you have tried it and hear your views on it .Many thanks and love from Newcastle UK..

I like the dry slope for sure. If you can not be on the snow, why not. there is much to be gained and learned. As for other ski videos, gosh, there are so many! but I am glad you found my channel and that you find my videos entertaining and informative, fun, maybe funny sometimes. As for Ron and his ABC series, those are a lot of fun!! I am not sure when the next one will be coming out. I hope soon!

Whenever "upper vs lower body separation" is discussed, I question what is meant. Rotational (counter) ? Lateral (angulation) ? Both simultaneously ?
@DebArmstrongSkiStrong6 ай бұрын
Nice question. See ya on the slopes I hope😉

Very interesting and informative video! Thanks, Deb. But I'm afraid Kipp did say one thing that is simply not accurate. He said he was your number one fan. Nope. I am. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Sorry Ron, you're number 2.🤣🤣🤣

This is a good video but there are much more you should tell about separation. The main reason why you have to make counter-rotation of your torso is, that the skis make larger turns than the torso, but the skis and the torso must turn together. The most important counter-rotation is made by the hips, and the hips will take the whole torso into the same direction that the hips have and the hip socket joints will follow this by leg rotations. In slalom turns you want to make the outside ski turning faster than the inside ski. The reason for this is not separation, it is simply so that the outside ski is "late" in its turn because the inside ski moves faster at the inside, it has a shorter way to go and if you are to make short turns you should push your outside hip and the outside ski with it into the turn. This cannot be made by the hand, it is a work that the hips must make.

This is always my turn type in heavier or sticky crud that is kind of steep….because i dont know how to survive it otherwise! BUT, it is also totally exhausting! Im 51 now and skiied all my life. In fact, i have the same name as Debbie Armstrong and ski bus was disappointed to find out they werent picking up the “real Debbie Armstrong” lol.

We could just switch to stubby gates for SL. Then you'd remove that crazy, artificial cross-block separation. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts Ron. "Walking and chewing gum" - maybe I'll use that in a lesson this season.

Ron Kipp published a scientific study on the topic of gate pole height and skill level.

Why don't we just have a conversation about tension. Ron is right for the most part but once again if we actually created a freedom of motion movement we won't need all of the physics. Right from our very first snow plow we need to teach the freedom of motion you get when your boots skis all feel like dancing rather than hospital casts. With a sense of comfort and balance you get relaxed muscles. I would be happy to place a wager that only 1 in 50 skiers has ski boots that promote this idea. I would be happy to wager that only 1 in 100 orthodic footbeds actually do the right job for a ski athlete. third wager 9 out of 10 boot fitters don't appreciate that for a foot to be athletic it cannot be squeezed in a vise. Check your next race camp for one junior racer that doesn't unbuckle their boots on every chair lift ride its not just support or stiffness its a vise grip.

Just don’t separate your skis (in the horizontal plane)!
