Octavius Winslow 1808-78
Mary and Thomas Winslow went on to live in England and Octavius was born in Pentonville, then a village near London, on August 1, 1808. He was the tenth of 13 children. His name seems to have been given because he was then the eighth surviving child. Octavius's father was from a wealthy family but by 1815, following his retirement from the army, he suffered ill-health and the loss of his fortune due to one of several such national financial disasters that occurred in this period. A decision was made to move to America, but before Mr Winslow could join his wife and children in New York, he died. At the same time, their youngest child died too.
Widowed at 40, responsible for a large family and scarcely settled in America, Mrs Winslow's entire life was turned upside down. Worst of all, spiritual darkness and despondency overwhelmed her for some months. Octavius was seven years old. They were a deeply religious family and Octavius later wrote a book about their experiences from his mother's perspective in a book entitled Life in Jesus, available on google books. All of the children became Christians, and three sons became evangelical ministers.
It is suggested that Winslow began his ministerial training in Stepney, London, but then moved to Columbia College, New York. He was certainly ordained as a pastor June 21,1833 (aged 25) in New York. He is said to have ministered in the newly started Second Baptist Church there in Brooklyn, in 1836 and 1837, the work sadly closing in 1838. In 1839 he moved back to England where he became one of the most valued ministers of the time. This was largely due to the earnestness of his preaching and the excellence of his prolific writings.
He was married to a Miss Ann Ring and they had four boys and four girls. His son, John Whitmore, died in 1856 aged only 21 and Octavius went on to publish some of the things he had written as a teenager.

No short cut. We must separated from the standards of the world and traditions of men to gain Christ. Sometimes, from the people themselves. The word of God( spirit of the most high) is not associated with traditions of men or their ways and standard. Its measured by its fruits( by their fruits you know) . All who are in Christ the most high bear fruits that aligns exactly with the word in the book of life. Another Jesus,is the unholy spirit that seeks to impersonate Christ in the life of men,acting as angel of light,but a dark light. ( It is written," take heed that light in you is not darkness). Luciferous spirit of the fallen man who despises his original position allotted to him by God but chooses to be like God. God is only known by his holy word in the book of life- we must know how to separate the spirits. Any whose character or ways are not aligning with Christ in the book of life is unholy spirit of another Jesus that brings another gospel with another spirit. Christ,everywhere he's found is a separated one. Often isolated,desolate... .Any other not according to that will hide under the shadow of one in the secret place. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’ Sometimes Christ need to be separated from Egypt into the wilderness or desert,and there is often lack there,like Elijah. Separation must be what God calls you out from. Any not willing to obey that have no part with him. The two seed can never enter the kingdom of God. They shall all be destroyed- hence,the call for separation. We live in a generation that mock Christ and his representative wherever they are found,wherever they remain their only savior. They mock the likes of Ruth for being unambiguous and following Naomi,or the likes of Elijah for living lucrative business to follow a loner like Elijah. Boaz sees Ruth this time and mock her for not pursuing business and better life and wouldn't dare to help her,but advice her to go to city to look for paying job ,but loves her inheritance all the same. Yet,they say they follow Christ. We must stop deceiving ourselves as scripture warns for being hears and not doers deceiving our own selves,serving other gods( another Jesus contrary to what disciples preached) and claiming to follow Christ. Its time to measure ourselves by the fruits we bear. We cannot claim a name or new name in bible that doesn't align with our character in fruits. That's why every hidden things shall be made bare. The secrets and treasures of God is in the wilderness and desert places,not in Babylon or Egypt ( except with separated Daniel in Babylon). Even Moses in all his learning and skilled had to go back to wilderness 40 years to get the secret for delivering the people of God. If you haven't paid that price,you must cling to those who separated themselves, denying and suffering to pay the price. Again,God is calling his people to separate to the wilderness where he can speak comfortably with them. Jesus is emerging again from the wilderness where he/she had separated from the world. We must examine ourselves( by the word) if we are in faith,except we have become reprobate minds.
