Shortly before his death, Tozer wrote: "Another kind of religious leader must arise among us. He must be of the old prophet type, a man who has seen visions of God and has heard a voice from the Throne." I am convinced that Aiden Wilson Tozer himself was such a man.
In his 1948 classic The Pursuit of God, Tozer challenged the stiff and wooden quality of many Christian lives. He noted: "Complacency is the deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people." Indeed, Tozer believed that thirst for God was the sign of coming revival.
Tozer's passion for a deeper knowledge of God led him to study the great devotional writers of the past. "These people know God, and I want to know what they know about God and how they came to know it," he observed. Prayer and worship were the hallmarks of his life. One biographer states that his preaching as well as his writings were simply an extension of his prayer life. Another noted that Tozer spent more time on his knees than at his desk.
He called for a return to astonishment and wonder at the majesty of God. Then he added: "The God of the modern evangelical rarely astonishes anybody. He manages to stay pretty much within the constitution;very well-behaved, very denominational and very much one of us."
In modern evangelicalism, contended Tozer, we work, we have our agendas--in fact, we have almost everything except the spirit of true worship. He defined worship as a humbling but delightful sense of admiring awe, astonished wonder and overpowering love in the presence of the unspeakable Majesty. He reminded the pastors, "We're here to be worshippers first and workers only second; Out of enraptured, admiring, adoring souls God does His work. The work done by a worshipper will have eternity in it."
Tozer believed that worship rises and falls with our concept of God and that if there was one terrible disease in the modern church, it was that we do not see God as great as He is: "We're too familiar with God. ...that is why I do not believe in these half-converted cowboys who call God `the Man Upstairs'."
In the Preface to The Knowledge of the Holy, his last book, Tozer stated how important our view of God is: "The church has surrendered her once lofty concept of God and has substituted for it one so low, so ignoble as to be utterly unworthy of thinking, worshipping men. .. A whole new philosophy of the Christian life has resulted from this one basic error."
Tozer addressed the state of the evangelical church even more bluntly in Keys to the Deeper Life. In a chapter entitled "No Revival Without Reformation", he stated: "A widespread revival of the kind of Christianity we know today in America might prove to be a moral tragedy from which we would not recover in a hundred years." The imperative need of the day, he affirmed, was not simply revival but a radical reformation that went to the root of our moral and spiritual maladies: "Prayer for revival will prevail when it is accompanied by radical amendment of life; not before."

I now understand. I was wondering why I cant find another to speak of God constantly and of spiritual things constantly. Because of this my prayer life changed, I had to speak to the Lord and listen to His voice , I had no other. So now I pray the 'unusual'. Every minute of the day my thoughts are consumed with God. I'm alone in this world and that is the circumstance of Gods will for me so to honour Him I am happy with my lot. Now I pray to Him nightly that He consumes my dreams also . I crave to dream spiritual dreams, private, loving, tender dreams of The Lord. The world sees me as out of my mind, just another 'born again'. So be it. Amen.

After God gave me the Holy Spirit, by read the 10 commandments, I found proof that TV, movies, watching sports (violence like football, covet and idols), novels, music, video games and computer games are all sins, except Christian stuff that don’t have sins like sermons and Christian music words that gives messages. I found out that in them there is lying, stealing, adultery (Matthew 5:28 looking at someone with lust is adultery), fornication which is sex before marriage, revenge, murder, jealousy, pride=self-pity, hypocrisy, using God’s name in vain as a curse word, they are all idols (breaks 2nd Commandment) because most people can’t live without them and they love them more than God and more. Just read the 10 commandments for a list. 1 John 2:15 King James Version (KJV) 15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 New King James Version 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. Now I will be preaching about how to receive the Holy Spirit and be 100% going to Heaven. First, it’s only by the grace of God that he gives you faith in Jesus Christ in order to give up your sins. It’s only by the grace of God that he leads you to pray to him to destroy all your evil desires of watching TV or any sinful desires. When you pray to God to destroy all your evil desires of watching TV or sinful desires (Romans 6:6-7 and Galatians 5:24), Satan will intervene and extremely tempt you in watching the TV. But if it’s God’s will and if you are one of God’s elects, you will overcome it and God will destroy all your evil desires of watching TV. After God has destroyed all your evil desires of watching TV and if you are one of God’s elects, you receive the joy of the Holy Spirit for a short amount of time. After the joy wears off, all existence of boredom no longer exists and you no longer burn out (psychology) anymore. That is when you have received the Holy Spirit. Then it’s by the grace of God that he forgives you of your sins, as you confess and repent of your sins (confess and not do those sins anymore) throughout your life which is called sanctification. After you have received the Holy Spirit and have confessed and repented of any known sins that you have done, then you pray to God to get rid of all evil spirits out of you. Say “In the name of Jesus Christ I bind and cast out all evil spirits out of me.” Then automatically your mouth will open and you will exhale all those evil spirits out of you. The Holy Spirit is the permanent cure to boredom but it is only given to God’s elects. (Proof: John 14:26-27 and Philippians 4:7) The Holy Spirit also gives the fruit of the spirit.(Galatians 5:22-24) Ephesians 2:8-9 King James Version (KJV) 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Likewise. It was the second time I had listened to it myself. Am truly curious what it is like to have an individual of a like mind as a companion or friend for more than a passing moment. Having been raised in the church from birth and being the son of a pastor, it’s discouraging how few will or do understand the weight of solitude carried by those fewer for the expansion of His Kingdom. An even larger travesty is how many men that call themselves pastors are unaware of this burden themselves.

I was always different and never fit in in any groups. I turned to drugs and the world in seek of comfort from the rejection and pain. I hit a rock bottom and that's when the Lord picked me up out of a horrible pit. Now... to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. This world has nothing for me

Even before I was saved I was alone, now as a Christian I walk alone. Yesterday I felt alone and felt such shame, a man at church asked me who I hung around with and I said "really no one" and it brought tears to my eyes. This morning as I was getting ready for work I looked up Christian Sermons on YT, no special subject, but this video was the one that came up. OH that was GOD. This is the way he has made me. So I rejoice in my aloneness!

We are never... never alone as God and a host of Angel's are all around. We can hear that sweet small voice in our spirits communicating to us. Oh if the world could only know the sound of The Sheperd, calling out to His sheep! We are the ones whom God has chosen to reach out to Him and intercede for lost souls in the world. To show God's love to the world of hurting people! We are coming to the great climax of this age, children! The greatest event in the whole world will soon take place. May we be part of that great company to witness the appearing of our Lord!? Well... that could happen to us or some of us. We will certainly be going home, to live with our Savior and Lord and all of the saints! Our loneliness will be gone then and we will bask in the presence of the Most High God!! My wife and daughter moved out on the same day. My other daughters had lives as young adults, limited contact. The alone time with Jesus was all I had. I knew it was planned. I went through so many things relying completely on Jesus. The people that did make it through were used for trials by the enemy. The enemy communicated through friends and family. The very best times looking back were my low points, broken heart and spiritual battles with thise closest to me. It's because there is only one way to experience the greatness of GOD is when you are at your lowest. When my heart was broken emotionally and physically I had the most amazing realization of who Jesus is. It was worth every moment. I would not have any other life. If you truly die to self and give everything to GOD then there will never be a situation that exceeds the commitment. I fear nothing because I have nothing I am not prepared to lose.

Especially when you feel the need to talk to somebody who will sincerely understand you but you just can't see anyone who will. And it makes you keep it to yourself because you will be told "You're not alone because you have Christ in you". They just don't get it! It breaks your heart and makes you feel like an alien in the church. Only God will listen the way you need to be heard.

This is the sweetest trip to the KZbin comment section I've ever had! Knowing that you all are out there is a major, major encouragement! I keep thinking, "why doesn't anyone see this beauty?! Why are even real converted Christians so interested in lesser things? Not necessarily sinful things. Just lesser." Maybe because I was saved later in life out of great sin, the value is more apparent to me; but when He saved me EVERYTHING else got the volume turned down to almost nothing. If ya gotta be alone, alone with Christ is THE way to go!

43 yrs saved n serving the Lord n caring for His sheep. I grew up lonely and poor. Here l am at 70 and still don't relish the lonely walk. I must say that the "lonely decades" have borne much fruit n me. Jesus is worth every sacrifice of a lonely heart .... there's a sweetness n comfort n peace that can be tapped into, only n His Presence. He is worth every sacrifice of loneliness n the only one that "satisfies our souls"

@classyt20f7 hi please don't be sad or angry. I believe there are times of looking back and wishing things had gone a particular way. I have found doing that illogical and another of the enemies plan 'guilt'. Loneliness can be combated. Go out and make someone who may feel lonely loved. Even if you can't get out of your home there is a thing known as telephone buddy. Don't accept the lie God has use for you. You are necessary to Him. It is well. I know that not all loners are saints. Yet, God my Lord has made me click on this message even if I'm not intending to do so myself. For I've heard this already some weeks ago. But now, I've heard God speak to me through the same sermon. I've been recently struggling with a dilemma about my abiding in Christ. My carnal mind always said to me that my loneliness is a result of my being unfruitful to God, the true vine. May be I'm unfruitful, but I'm partaking in God's will nonetheless by meditating on His word, in my daily natural and unintended isolation. Hallelujah!

We are not meant to BE alone. We are meant to be a BODY, the people of God, living in harmony with each other and displaying the love of God to the world. John 13:35, "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." You can't love one another in isolation. Love is not a solitary occupation. 😁😁 A.W.Tozer was not saying that the Christian is a solitary figure. He is saying that the Christian must be prepared to be misunderstood by the world and by those who name the name of Christ but who do not truly walk with Him.

Take this time to use your loneliness to be with God, this is how we got the book Revelation when John was on the island of Patmos because of persecution, if he hadn't been alone we he wouldn't receive the revelation. Its a reason your alone use it wisely, because some people wish they had time to seek God, but so much is on their plate. Read the book by Francine Harris How To Receive The Holy Ghost. Type in the search bar. Life on the other hand is not easy because man is born unto troubles, as the sparks fly upward. I guess some of us was born to walk alone, but we're make it by the grace of God. Use your time wisely because some people don't have it. On the other hand we're all running out of it, look at the world and see what time it is.

I’m an ONLY child and l was use to being alone most of the times. The difference came when l gave my life to Jesus. My mom birthed me yet never understood me so becoming a Christian brought more strife and resentment towards me. My adult Son is so rebellious that we barely talk and yet l have inner peace! Only the Holy Spirit can give that kind of feeling on the inside! My heart breaks for humanity because being attached to the world means destruction. I have my days when l hope to have at least one human friend but my assignment calls for me to walk alone. So l press toward the high calling that’s in Christ Jesus. I see the long haul before l get there and l believe by faith that l will spend eternity in heaven and behold his face😊 That’s my life goal. Keep the faith Saints.

In a season of being completely alone I had someone tell me that apparently God wasn’t enough for me. I struggled with that. And in my tears cried out “but Jesus you never created man to be alone. Not just relationships, but friends and family” I was left feeling ashamed for even feeling lonely. But I learned in my alone time with the Lord that it was ok to feel that way. Something I hadn’t had learned until even this past year is that guilt isn’t of the Holy Spirit. Derek Prince speaks about how guilt is used as a form of manipulation, manipulation being a form of witchcraft. And since God will never violate an individuals free will, Christians should be aware that guilt is a method used by the enemy after we’re redeemed. The Holy Spirit convicts, but it doesn’t use guilt against the flock. Hope this helps in some way. Not trying to come at you or anything, just found it encouraging in my personal walk, so I thought it may help likewise.

Alone in my own house....a 53 yr old father of a 11 yr old boy and twin 14 yr old girls and a loving wife that all attend "church" regularly and yet I feel so alone....our Creator decided to change me from the inside out 10 yrs ago for no reason. I didn't pray for ANYTHING and I was happy to be a pegan (although I considered myself a Christian because I was trying to believe). It is when it becomes evident that, even while talking to someone that my path is the solo path.... I do long to be in the physical presence of another and not feel alone. One glorious day we will meet at the table and eat and laugh and never be alone again. Never cry and sob and be up and down in our suffering. In the midst our King Jesus will be there. Heavenly Father watching over us. Blessed are we that believe without seeing. Just imagine. Jesus face to face. I will be pouring tears of joy. He will wipe them away and I will feel the hands that have been holding us this whole time. We will see him fully and wholely. We will see each other. Oh the love and family. I desire family. At the table. The supper that Heavenly Father has been preparing for us since the beginning of time. We been watching the ingredients go in bit by bit. Line upon line. Precept upon precept. Here a little and there a little. A stumble and fall. A push and a pull. We will fully understand. We will laugh so hard our cheeks will ache but it will be an eternal joyful one. We will hear Jesus laugh. I can almost see it. Almost touch it. Soon and very soon we will see the King and we will laugh even more cuz we knew Him the whole time. He was with us at the beginning and he is with us now and be with us at the end. I can't wait!!!!

I was saved in 92 & after 8 months joined a church, but then was taken away from her & everyone I loved so I walked alone 20 years & learnt much from the Holy Spirit & sweet communion with Jesus ... I joined a good church 6 months ago as led by The Lord, but I’m still alone there but I’m there for His body as directed & I’m ok with that 🙌 bless all of you upon this road, I fought it for years but what a blessing it is when you come to accept it for what it is it’s beautiful & beyond any earthly communion, God bless you all ❤️🙏❤️

Hi Benjamin. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you Jam. 4:8. Surrender "everything" to Jesus each morning, yes your loneliness too, and you will experience Him in a whole new way. I think God is telling you to have those conversations with Him. Just as you spend time in prayer with God, spend time in fellowship with Him. Ask Him to search your heart and know you (He does) and talk to Him as you would a trusted friend. He will either lighten the things that weigh on your heart and/or remove those things that feel like burdens. Bless you!

This is a funny quality, reminding me of times when I hung out with people only to be alone and lonely later. Then I was with them but still felt lonely. Then I finally quit hanging out, drinking, laughing, doing supposedly fun things because they meant nothing really. Or always feeling like the things I said and did were apart from things others did, so that I couldn’t compare myself with anyone else unless I denied parts of my character to be with them. To accept these parts of myself and to express them is to make myself odd in the sight of others. I hear this and know it all to be true. I feel a pathway being set before me , one that identifies me and sets me apart all at once. The best part is that I feel very normal. Thank you for posting this and God bless you.

The loneliness and lonely is different, as Christian we pray alone in most of time, we feel the lord is inside and around us all the times, since my wife and I became obedience to gospel, we lost almost friends the only few Christians friends we have. Jesus said you with me or against me. We chose to be with the lord, no matter of circumstances. Jesus is our God.

Even before I got saved I have never really felt like I shared more than an acquaintance level relationship with anyone. I feel like the things I speak of to others are either misunderstood or ignored/mocked. Since I came back to Jesus I have been trying to become involved with a church I found. But even with that effort, even with a faith family, I still go home at the end of the day and am alone. I truly believe it is my fate to be alone. I crave companionship but it continues to elude me. I feel ashamed that God doesn't feel like enough. I can not help my desire for someone. I know God should be enough to fill the void in my life but I am weak. He himself said that it is not good that man should be alone. I am only a mortal man, I can not help that I wish for someone to share life with. Forgive me Lord for my weakness.

It crushes me to talk now to others I have known for so long who pronounce themselves as Christians but would rather speak of the things of this world than their glorious salvation and the Father's will. As the questions come to me as I seek Him and desire Him, there seems a burden for most to even ponder such things. I am alone until I break down before the throne and know I am not alone. This is the most profound thing I've ever heard, I cry to GOD all the time asking him to send me a friend , not just anyone but one that Loves the Lord like I do, someone I can speak to about GOD all the time and won't want to change the subject as soon as I mention his HOLY Name. Listening to this gave me chills of how dead on it is on how I feel, hearing this makes me feel so much better, because I thought that NO ONE understood what I was going through. I don't want to be popular or have alot of friends , all I want is at least 1 friend who LOVES THE MOST HIGH WITH ALL THEIR HEART, WE CAN WORSHIP HIM TOGETHER AND WE CAN TALK ABOUT HIM ALL DAY.
