Before 1492, Iberian Jews traded with southwest France. This trade was continued by New Christians who later established communities, as public Catholics, in Bordeaux, Bayonne, and other locations. These communities were an important element of the Portuguese Nation, but do not receive the attention they deserve. This week Ton and David provide an overview of the history and an introduction to genealogical research. Many of the archives have been digitized and can be used online.
The talk was presented by Ton Tielen and David Mendoza, regular hosts of the Sephardic World meetings.
