You are SO good at this. I LOL often times. Arguably, this is Elvis' best (and most critically acclaimed) film. According to all accounts, after the making of King Creole Elvis told the director, Michael Curtiz (also director of Casablanca), "thank you Mr. Curtiz, now I know what a director is." The next 6 films (till 1961) is a mixed bag of dramas and (musical) comedies after which the established formula kicks in (1962). Elvis had a brilliant flair for light comedy and his natural ability quite mirrors that of Gary Grant. Both men were superb physical actors, and both had "funny bones". Naturally, I watch an Elvis movie because ELVIS IS IN IT. 😍

​@@SephPlays One thing that most forget, Elvis didn't only make movies in the 60's. He also made alot of great studiorecordings that had nothing to do with the movies. He also made some tv apperances and some liveshows in the early 60's. Some movies are also really good and some are really bad, but most of them are familycomedies. In every movie there's some good songs also.

So many great actors in this film! One of my sentimental favorites, Dean Jagger (plays Mr Fisher, the dad) because he makes me think of White Christmas, a wonderful Holiday movie that I watch every year. Of course we’ve already met our Loving You sweetheart, Dolores Hart, here in her second film opposite Elvis. She was also wonderful in a lovely summer film called Where the Boys Are, which is just a slice of mid-century Americana that can’t be described, only taken in by watching the movie. Walter Matthau was already a respected actor here, and his reputation speaks for itself, but most young people will know him from the Grumpy Old Men movies. One of those rare actors that could do comedy or drama equally convincingly, blend in or help carry the film, as need be. The very striking woman who plays the ill-fated Ronnie would go on to needle her way into American hearts by becoming tv’s Morticia Addams. Vic Morrow, aka Shark, was a known face to me as a kid in the 70s. He was one of those guys that popped up in almost everything. That ended in 1982 when he was killed with two child actors during a helicopter accident while filming The Twilight Zone movie. I’m probably missing some but those are the ones who stuck out. Oh…the druggist: I recognize his voice but I can’t place his face to anything specific.

Outstanding reaction! Your jungle room background was a nice touch. My phone was actually sitting on a table quite similar to the one behind you as I watched this. I've never laughed so hard during a dramatic movie before. The way you kept popping up in the scenes, the fire shooting out when Ronnie threw her drink, Spiderman, etc. was so ingenious! After a bit of a dry spell on the Elvis reactions, thanks for giving me a really fun evening! And, yes, that was the Jordanaires singing back-up. They're in most of Elvis' movies. Fun fact: when they first started filming Elvis said to Walter Matthau (Maxie Fields) "if you could help me out with this acting thing, I'd sure appreciate it" to which WM replied " I've seen you act. You don't need any help from me".

@@SephPlays A little history: The Jordanaires were formed in 1948 when Elvis was 13 years old. They performed every Saturday night on The Grand Ole Opry radio show which was a staple in probably all southern homes at the time. They stood out from other quartets in that they specialized in singing spirituals (black gospel songs) to predominantly white audiences. And Elvis, having grown up being heavily influenced by both white and black southern gospel music, loved what were called at the time colored spirituals. He said he thought he knew every one ever written and actually remembered beginning to sing gospel songs at the age of two. This quartet was with Elvis throughout much of his career so you'll hear a lot of them. And later on, when they preferred not to go on tour, they were replaced with others who were also fantastic. Elvis personally chose his musicians, and they were all spectacular. No spoilers, but it's all ahead of you to discover what grew from the two-piece band (plus Elvis on the guitar) at the beginning to what it became as the years went on.

Every Friday and Saturday night, My mother had the radio tuned to WSM, Nashville, Tennessee, the home of the Grand Ole Opry. Those old-fashioned tube radios had the ability to pull in stations all throughout the country with minimal interference.

A absolutely double banger reaction, loved all the effects and your head turning up everywhere and the jungle room ending. Your effort and time spent is beyond words. So now you have even more Elvis bangers on your topscore. Trouble, Dixieland Rock and of course King Creole are my favorites. The places like the balcony scene in the beginning where he sang Crawfish, is now a Elvissighting when Elvisfans visit New Orleans amongst other places in the movie. This was the movie he was most proud of. Walter Matthau the gangsterboss is a really wellknown actor. The young girl in the movie was Dolores Hart that also was in the movie Loving You and became a nun after kissing Elvis...

@@SephPlays I watched the movie last night myself and wanted to check out what others thought of it too. I greatly enjoyed the movie. I´ve heard it´s Elvis´s own favorite and out of the three I´ve watched so far-I see why. He did a great job and the plot/story was easy to follow like you mentioned. I might look into the book it´s based upon. I´ve only seen Jailhouse Rock, Viva Las Vegas and King Creole, but I´m looking forward to check out more of them. I just want to prepare you for future films, the amount of great songs will be less and less as it goes but many actually sound better without the video imo because they take a different atmosphere when you hear them without the visuals. Like 1 song that's very childlike and cutesy on the film becomes eerie and haunting when you listen to it without the visuals.

Elvis had some great performances in his early days. Until Flaming Star and Wild In The Country both didn't do very well at the box office, he got a chance to show his acting ability. When that happened, he was basically relegated to the boy meets girl musicals and some were definitely better than others, but none were outright classics. The closest was Change of Habit, released after his Comeback Special, where he playing a singing (of course) MD who falls in love with a nun. Probably his best of those kinds of films from a writing and acting perspective.

So stop right in & get comfortable, maybe bring along some snacks and your favorite drink (whatever that may be, we here do not judge) and be ready to LOL right up to the end! You may be sorry it had to end, but that's the way of it with all good things * sigh * But fortunately for us all the Mystery Train doesn't stop here! 🚂💨 As an aside: Oh my Gawd! Your background is the Jungle Room! Also: The song you loved where Elvis is talking back is called "Trouble". Slight spoiler: He performs that song later on in his career 😉 The duet "Crawfish" was actually sung live on set as the film was rolling. Kitty White & Elvis had pre- recorded the song for the movie but on the day if filming that particular scene the sound tech (or engineer) was having difficulty with the sound equipment. So Elvis asks the director, Michael Curtiz, if its alright if he sings during a live take. Michael Curtiz is doubtful at first and expresses as much but Elvis insists he can do it. Michael Curtis kind of "gives in" by saying, "Well, if Miss White agrees to sing her part live, then okay, we'll give it a shot." Elvis goes to Miss Kitty White and explains to her the situation and asks if she's willing to sing her part of the duet during a live take. She says yes. So what you saw & heard there was actually Elvis & Kitty White singing live while the camera was rolling. Kitty White's daughter would later give an interview after her mother passed & said that her mother had nothing but good things to say about Elvis. Apparently she spoke highly of him. Miss Kitty White told her daughter that Elvis was a gentleman and the nicest man. I can't remember the exact quote but that's basically the gist of it. @Seph Plays Thank you so very, very much for this! While Elvis made a lot of bad teen movies (to stay cool and relevant, and that strategy worked), he also made a lot of awesome movies. I'd say his good movies are Follow That Dream, Flaming Star, King Creole, The Trouble With Girls, Love Me Tender, Fun in Acapulco, Wild in the Country, G.I. Blues, Roustabout, and Viva Las Vegas. Jailhouse Rock was well-done although it's too depressing for me. Elvis's acting was way too convincing as a bad guy.

Just past the 15 minute mark and I can't stand it anymore! You're one of those who talks all through a movie, aren't you?! Here's the thing: If you're doing reactions and you talk while the movie is still running, you're missing important dialog. And we can't hear what you're saying! It's very frustrating to watch that. Added: Case in point... you asked how she knew he was there to rob the store. If you had been listening instead of talking during the store scene, you'd have heard her tell him she saw what he and his buddies were doing!
