Very cool..Professor Agar should write a similarly presented book on all this..I'm sure it would be great and I for one would definitely buy it above any others on the darkroom. Plus, it would help the much-needed preservation of film photography knowledge! :)

Hello, I recently been learning how to do Collodion photography. Would this process work with this type of photography. I usually shoot my images on either aluminum or on glass.

I saw this the day it came out but Firefox wouldn't let me comment until now. Thanks for the ping, tho. So, is the rubber cement allowed to dry first or is it used wet?
@Trangent
@Trangent 8 жыл бұрын
+Baisao Photos Thanks for watching! Sorry about your Firefox issues!! I've had some myself... After painting on the rubber cement, it dries quickly. Then you use the bleach and toner (when rubber cement has dried). It's so nice to work with--after you're done altering the photo, it peels easily! Good luck to you!!

Cool. Is there a way to employ different tones/colors on the same print?
@Trangent
@Trangent 7 жыл бұрын
Yes-you can use Liquid Friskit or rubber cement to mask areas of the print that you do not want to tone. You can buy different colored toners at B&H online. Professor Agar likes the Edwal brand. Hope this helps!! Thanks for watching!!

Sorry but can you also "stack" tones? Watching the video I was, besides being intrigued, reminded of watching people "paint" Easter eggs with dyes and wax. Starting with masking the white, dip in yellow mask the yellow, dip in blue watch the green, mask the green, dip back in blue. etc ending in black.

Professor Agar is kind of a straight sort of a photo guy and says, "...so I have not personally experimented with your ideas. However-the technique reminds me of the good old days in the 60s and 70s when experimentation was the norm. People did exactly as you suggested using Edwals and Berg toners. They also drew and painted on the image. A student of mine recently took her black and white print, a portrait, and started painting all over it leaving the face untouched like a Greek Orthodox Icon. The effect was dramatic! We scanned the image and made a digital print but the resulting image lost its appeal. The pigments that had been applied to the original presented their own unique quality that was lost in digital reproduction. My advice is to have fun and experiment!" Hope his advice gives you lots of ideas and creative freedom John!! Good luck to you!!

Is this process same as Lith developer? Thanks!
@Trangent
@Trangent 5 жыл бұрын
The Professor says, "No. They are different. In sepia toner we make a good print which we can dry and tone later. The bleach appears to erase the image which turns almost white. If you stick the print back into the developer it will redevelop and appear normal. But if you place the bleached print into sepia toner the image redevelops with the characteristic warm tone. Different papers react differently. Kodak no longer makes sepia toners but others are available like the Legacy brand sold by Freestyle Photographic in California. A good explanation of Lith printing is: filmphotographyproject.com/content/howto/2012/01/what-lith-print/" Thanks for watching Yun :) Good luck to you!!

looks like the tree print lost contrast after toning ?
@Trangent
@Trangent 3 жыл бұрын
The Professor says, "Usually toning gets a feeling of slightly more contrast as the whites get a bit brighter. Only a bit though." These were actually two different prints, so the one may have been more contrasty to begin with.

I love the video's. I understand the connection with black and white, but a personal opinion, choose either color for the video or complete black and white. It is distracting.

I think it was kind of an artistic decision to go between color and black and white since the subject of the video is adding color (tone) to B&W prints.
@Trangent
@Trangent 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Raevenswood!! We want to keep the videos black and white mostly due to the (sometimes) distracting background and the subject-B&W photography. However, it would be hard to show what sepia toning looks like, especially to someone who’s never seen it, without part of the demo being in color... I’ve since learned different ways I could have done this. Thank you for your support and for watching our videos!!
