One little cool tidbit I found out about Chinatown Station was that it was completely rebuilt when the Regional Rail tunnel was dug through the area and fitted with emergency exit directly from the RR Tunnel while 8th-Market's Station sits in a former concourse because prior to PATCO, trains use to end down on the PATCO platform.

Basically Philly version of the PATH train. Interstate train who runs from Center City to Lindenwood using the old Ridge and Locust St tunnels within Philadelphia.

When the train uses 2 cars but the station can fit 6.
@CaseysTrains4 жыл бұрын
Ridership is not that heavy on Ridge-Spur not mention a lot of the stations were shortened. Like Fairmount who can only hold 4 cars. The rest of the platform is behind a false wall. Me and my friends made jokes that the in-service portion looked abandoned because of the station's dismal look.
@CaseysTrains4 жыл бұрын
Chinatown is the only full-length station on the Spur and the reason for that is because the Regional Rail tunnel crosses at the far end so if there ever an evacuation emergency on the Regional Rail, passengers can make it up to the Ridge Platform at Chinatown safely. I would also say 8th St but there a common unspoken rule that the rest of the platform there is Employees Only. They will yell at you if you go down the platform there.

Been in philly all my life i never seen empty stations downtown..must been done at night like 11.45 pm. An 20 % of stations look that clean..the other 80% makes u wish u never came to philly
@jerrodsix5454 жыл бұрын
Thanks for making this video. The spur line is useful during rush hours, plus when it joins the larger broad street subway line it skips many of the stops along the way making it a kind of express train. People like me who live on the east side of the center city sometimes use it instead of going to the center of town and catching the larger line. I don't use this train frequently, but it gets used when high schools dismiss and during rush hour. It is a fast way for people in the northern part of town to get to the shopping mall where the train line ends. Did you get a chance to film the Market-Frankfort line? You can see it at the same station the spur line ends at 8th and Market sts.

To lower costs for maintenance, Septa removed most of the orange on the outside of the train from 2013-2016

I remember the day when I confused the broad ridge spur for the broad street line. Lol. Didn't realise till it hit 8th street station. My father was there with me, and my father was confused too, and she looked around and said, "wait. We took the broad ridge spur, and now we are at 8th street. Wait till we get back to the station we were at, and get onto broad street line." And I was like "dad, you've been working at SEPTA, for like years, and you still didn't realize that we were on the broad ridge spur in 3 seconds after we left the station we boarded the broad ridge spur at?!?"

You know, I once had a dream that they would extend the Broad-Ridge Spur via the western end of the PATCO High Speed Line to 25th and Oregon with these stops. All PATCO Line stops from 8th-Market to 16th-Locust 19th Street-Rittenhouse Square 22nd Street-Grays Ferry Avenue 24th Street-Washington Avenue 25th-Morris Streets Snyder Avenue 25th Street-Oregon Avenue If that happened, then maybe the Broad Ridge Spur will see better service during the evenings and on Saturdays. What do you think?

@liamtahaney7134 жыл бұрын
Okay if you check out a map it covers territory the bsl and mfl already cover. It's totally unnecessary because it basically just cuts a corner of our + shaped system. Problem is that section is one of the most popular. So it totally not needed.
