Just went to Philly 2 days ago, and I am sadly leaving tomorrow, within 2 hours of arriving in Philadelphia, the Market - Frankford Line became my favorite line.

Yes AdTranz ( M-4 ) cars. In service from 1999. Prior to these were 1960 Budd Co.( M-3 ). They were called "Almond Joys", as the bump - like ventilator fan housings on the roof resembled the candy bars. Rode on both for years.

I like the automated announcements on SEPTA (Doors opening, closing, type of train, next stop, switch for, etc.). I't's always struck me as strange that NYC doesn't have auto subway announcements.

Alden Weaver Voices of an Uptown 4 train at Grand Central-42nd Street Station - Female voice, once the doors open: "This is a Bronx-bound 4 express train. The next stop is 59th Street." Male voice, once everyone has seemingly boarded: "Stand clear for the closing door, please." Then, a quick Ding-dong as the doors begin to close.

The propulsion sounds rather strange, like a cross of the R142A and the R110A. Is that AdTranz? Also: R62As continue to roam the tracks of the (4), so be sure to keep an eye on 'em.

Only good thing about the m4 was a comfortable operator seat and the fact that it called out the stops and if you had the computer set right it would tell you what problem you had with the train Wether it was a door problem a propulsion problem or hvac problem

Yes 1999. I believe was part of an improvement project for the 2000 political convention in Philly.
