At 28:10, with the turn to the right, north of York - Dauphin, the " El " starts its segment on Kensington Avenue.

It seems like a sizable portion of the buildings that flank both sides of the line are well maintained. Great video!

Yeah I think the city looks good and has come a long way. People like to complain but I grew up in Philly in the 80s-90s and it was a rough place back then, it really started to turn around in the late 90s. You could have made a fortune investing in property in numerous places along this route.

I miss the screeching of the old track layout with the Almond Joy cars, the fastest rolling stock ever to run the El. Let's see, what Almond Joy sounds do I miss? The crisp clicking of the passenger doors closing - all the heads up we ever needed The repeated sighs of air from the electro-pneumatic Cineston WA controllers in the cabs The motor wind-up and wind down, piercing. The shop air compressors, again, grabbing your attention right away The commanding air blast of the passenger doors being opened The wind whistling thru the train door windows while at speed Feel free to add what I missed.

Very interesting. I've mentioned before that I have yet to ride the "El", though my younger sister has, and I pass by a portion of it every time I go into Center City for medical appointments. It's also worth noting that this line is (from what I've read) close to 120 years old.

What's the point of the 13th street station you can literally see it down the tunnel
@NorthEastCoastRailfan2 жыл бұрын
The stations are pretty close together, but each is busy and has useful transfers. 13th Street Station is where SEPTA's headquarters are located (1234 Market Street). It also happens to be the terminus and turnaround point for trolley routes 10,11,13,34, and 36. 15th Street Station is a major transfer point for the Broad Street Line, Regional Rail, and trolleys.

Can somebody explain this its been driving me nuts for years, how is it that the tunnel keeps that cut and cover shape when going under the river after 30th st, i can see the steep dip in the grade but the tunnel still doesn’t seem bored like most underwater tunnels do, ever since i went to philly 10 Years ago ive wondered how they built this line under the sckyukill river (sorry i butchered the spelling lol) without using deep bored tubes or even precast tunnel Sections which would also take a more rounded shape if anyone know plz let me know
@kevinhoward95933 жыл бұрын
simple. submerged tunnel sections. plus the tunnel under the river wasnt done until the 50s when the line underground was buried until after 40th. The line originally came out where PECO now sits.

i still think the ADtranz cars are a bit over powered. seems like its a struggle to keep them from flying down the track. im surprised people dont get whiplash from all the jolting back and forth. Then again ADtranz doesnt even exist anymore.
@NorthEastCoastRailfan3 жыл бұрын
They might jolt around a lot, but they don't really accelerate that hard or reach that high of a speed. Same goes for the Norristown High Speed Line cars. It might be down to the cars being top heavy more than anything

Seeing this makes me miss Philly more. However, I left in 1992...after burying my mother (died on Valentine's Day), and having to resume my duty with the Marines in Hawaii. I now live in Milwaukee, WI...and can't return to pay my respects because of idiotic 'Brothas' who rape women and shoot/kill people for SNG! (Shits 'n Giggles...in case I have to explain.) I remember riding these trains prior to enlisting, hoping I would work one day with SEPTA. How times have changed.
