I found a bunch of these after all the rain we’ve had in price, they were sticking out of a hillside at work. They look like the one your hand is on at the beginning of the video.

Although I haven't found a septarian yet, it's a species I like very much. Thanks for the detailed and informative description.

I found some those in Aussie , up 18 inches across, like a Turtle shell . The calcite is fluorescent yellow.

Yep they can be found in many countries & places!

I found a septarian nodule in a stream near my house, it's about the size of a loaf of bread, would love to have it polished up like your specimens

Where are you located? Post a picture? It most probably be cut & polished.

How should I clean my septarian eggs from Morocco? I'd like to clean them, but I'm afraid of causing damage.
@RockOnRickMaritta7 ай бұрын
Just mild dishsoap and water, rinse gently without too much water pressure. You can try a very soft toothbrush if the crystals seem sturdy enough but don't be overly aggressive with it.

I cut many Septarian from West of a Orderville. Many fossils in them. I believe a very rare one, a fossil sharks tooth about an inch in size.,
@danab172Күн бұрын
How long does it take for them to form?
@RockOnRickMarittaКүн бұрын
@@danab172 that's a good question. Unfortunately there's not much research of the subject. However, it's safe to say it probably takes millions of years to go from conception to what we see them as when we dig them up. In theory, it could take less time, maybe in even as shortly as a few hundred thousand years.

I don't believe brecciation is a factor as the cracks where the crystals formed are consistently narrowing toward the outer surface and widening toward the middle rather than random directions.

Looking for more detail on a rock I found in a lake it’s about 3ft across and looks like a turtle shell fossil but I think it’s a septarian..

I have heard moqui marbles described as hematite concretions. Is that erroneous?
@RockOnRickMaritta2 жыл бұрын
Rick says no, that is probably accurate. Some may be other iron oxides, but they are generally accepted to be hematite.
