I can't remember if this series mentions it but one of the most heartbreaking things is that namjoon saw all of the hate that people wrote to english but when he translated it fir the members he would give them compliments and keep the hate to himself He was so young and had to carry all of that by himself but even now i know he doesn't regret it, he loves the members so much and im glad he was able to turn all the hate into motivation

If you were talking about how long they had been together, they were trainees from 2010 until their debut in 2013. My heart always kind of goes to JK in their debut. He was 13 when he started training and 15 in western age when they debuted. He was center stage from the beginning, what a responsibility for this young boy known to be extra shy and emotive. He kept pushing himself beyond limits as years went by. Jk fighting 🐰

On why V was hidden until their debut, let me quote from the Rolling Stone's article on them "The Triumph of BTS": V, a fan of jazz, classical music, and Elvis Presley, with a distinct baritone, ended up a Big Hit trainee by accident, after showing up to support an auditioning friend. He was a “hidden member,” who didn’t appear on camera in the endless vlogs and other ingenious online promotion that preceded BTS’ debut in June 2013. “I actually can’t understand it whatsoever,” he says now, with a laugh. “Why did they do that? Why was that the concept? I really had no idea!” (Bang [Si-hyuk] belatedly offers an answer: “We needed momentum to announce that the team called BTS was finally complete. V had great charms in terms of appearance and personality, so I thought it would be impactful when he was revealed last. It was an effective strategy in forming the team’s overall image, as well as leaving an impression of each member.”)
@blarmy8272 жыл бұрын
That was the pr answer years after it happened lol it was actually bc they needed to have some way to create buzz bc they had no way of promoting them or getting exposure for the group and thought that holding one back would be a good way to generate some attention… v was the only member who wasn’t recruited from another audition or like Jin was who then auditioned and didn’t do hit it or an open audition like the rest of them did . Tae asked for another day when they said he should audition with his friend and tae asked for a day to prepare abs would come in later that week… so that’s what he did… he was the only one there couldn’t be prior knowledge of at that point lol you can’t hide someone that other people have seen from auditions Vs always been someone who is super confident in himself and didn’t deal with insecurities like the rest of them had to… so he probably was the only one who could do that and not break himself down mentally and emotionally about it lol super charismatic and social… don’t think vs ever thought negatively about himself ever lol wish I had that confidence… he was such a little guy back then but still huge personality lol

I found the "cultural" comment about the "positivity" really amusing. Because...we learned that from the Americans. Things like "Good job!", "Awesome!", "Nice!", etc. We've always said "SooGo HaShyautSeupNiDa or SooGo HaetDa" which translates into "You've worked hard". However, it was always used sparingly. Your parents said this to you if you've spent an entire year studying for a final exam and once you returned home, you would be greeted with this. It was always after some long witnessed effort. Praise was thought to break the focus. However, as Koreans travelled more and had more experiences with Americans especially, they were always marvelling at how Americans use compliments so freely and that they were so positive--that this was what we were lacking. And as you have already caught on, when Koreans adapt something, we go hard; we go all in, pranks and all. We are still critical of one another, but thanks to the Americans (Canadians as well), we are more generous with our compliments as well. The story goes on...but I'll stop here.

RM - 18 (Sept 12, 1994) Jin - 20 (Dec 4, 1992) Suga - 20 (March 9, 1993) J-Hope - 19 (Feb 18, 1994) Jimin - 17 (Oct 13, 1995) V - 17 (Dec 30, 1995) Jungkook - 15 (Sept 1, 1997)

Y'all talking about them just acknowledging eachothers and other's hard work really resonated with me. I have learned so much since falling for BTS and Kpop. But this is definitely something I've noticed about Korean culture and thing BTS is especially good at and I have tried really hard to implement in my everyday life. To the point my coworkers call me the cheer leader sometimes. but just thanking everyone for what they do, even if maybe it wasn't everything you wanted, creates such a better atmosphere and gives people pride in their work. Even at home if someone does a chore or task they were already supposed to do or in charge of still thank them or praise them. It also really begins to create an atmosphere where everyone tries to help everyone else because they feel appreciated

The levels of abuse were staggering, but because of legalities and contracts, no one was ever held responsible. She was the one who suffered for YEARS, both at the hands of the abusers and in the court of public opinion (as she had to endure endless victim blaming), not to even mention the actual courtroom she had to go to to fight to free herself from her abuser, yet they STILL sided with him. The fact that that controlling, abusing SOB is still working on the music industry is beyond me. And NO ONE SAYS A DAMN THING.

45:56 lmao yeh that birthday prank was def so difficult to watch … especially bc this is a shortened version of how long they were in the room with him basically like guilting him a bit bc they know that’s jks worse fear lol he’s the baby of the group but very hard working and independent when it comes to work really.. but since he’s in such important roles in the group… it’s a lot of pressure on his barely teenage shoulders … and he works his ass off to make sure he never is someone they have to worry about being ready and prepared .. especially how he was talking about how they don’t sleep a lot now and he feels bad for them.. he’s so little and innocent and failing them is devastating for him… and they knew it would def catch him off guard … he’s a perfectionist who is the most stable vocally and dance wise… it’s crazy how perfect he always is.. never seen anything like it… but he was so scared of disappointing them or making them mad … so the relief before the tears .. just breaks your heart!!! But only family can prank you using your worse fears against you and still love you!!! Sweet baby jk was so confused 😂 aww but they love the shit out of him I promise!! In your commentary, you said something like, three years of hard work and training culminated in ten minutes of their debut performance. There's actually a line in RM's verse that's similar to that in "Born Singer", which is a song about their feelings on their debut that was released a month after. He says: Without even a short moment to brush over the past, the one-time play began My blood and sweat of three years got evaporated in just three minutes The fierce tension between mic and me Though it was only tens of seconds, I poured myself clearly We see a snippet of this song in the Deleted Scenes at 7:27. This is a song that's very dear to them and to ARMY. They're often emotional when performing it. There are three live performances of the song: * In a concert in 2015 * In a concert in 2017 * In "Proof Live" in 2022 There's also a compilation video of the 2015 and 2017 that's very well done. Would love to see you react to it if you have time. And maybe plus the "Proof Live", just to see how much they've grown.

Its just as Suga said in this episode of ROB in regards to Jimin saying that his friends were not aware of the changes that he had gone through saying that their successful debut did not guarantee them a lot of TV/Radio exposure for people to get to know them, not necessarily them and their accomplishments at that time being treated lightly by their friends its more of just people still being ignorant of BTS cuz they lack the resources for other types of promotions at that time. Its true that most of them did train for 3 years but it was all worth it, Jimin however trained under BH for less than a year though being the last to join Bangtan.

If you thought this prank on Jungkook was bad this doesn't even compare to the prank that was pulled on BTS in 2014 during their show American Hustle Life. I don't think I'm spoiling anything because they kind of don't talk about in detail during this series but I will tell you about it if you are interested. This happened in the summer of 2014 where BTS went to Los Angeles to learn more about hip hop. After they arrived their managers (who knew about the prank) left the boys alone in a van at night in LA to go get something. So the guys were just chilling when a few men who they didn't know came into their van and basically kidnapped them. They took their phones and drove them to a building. Once at the building they were told to get out and once inside were told to remove certain items of clothing like 1 shoe and 1 sock (it was weird). Now keep in mind only RM speaks English fluently. Most of the members were pretty straight faced the whole time, but Jungkook and J-Hope looked terrified. Imagine being in a foreign country at night, being driven around by complete strangers, and being given commands in a language you don't understand. Eventually they were told it was for the show and they were at the dorm they were going to be staying at for the next 2 weeks. But afterwards when they asked the members how they felt when all this was happening Jungkook said he was scared he was going to be sold off and never see his family again, Jungkook was only 16 at the time. Here is the clip if you want to watch it and it only shows the part I'm talking about. kzbin.info/www/bejne/onSVpX2cZatohsU.

Keep in mind too, that Korean age is different than how we do it. In Korea it is always 1 or 2 years more than international age. Koreans consider a year in the womb as counting towards their age, so everyone is a year old at birth. Everyone also gets 1 year added to their Korean age on New Year's Day. So when they say their age on this keep in mind that they are actually younger than that.

It’s adorable to see, they were so excited to debut and meet the fans in person, you could really tell how happy they were despite being super tired. Their ages here were between 15 and 20 (that was JK’s 16th birthday they “celebrated” here 😅) The song with the white music video you were asking about is N.O., which is the main song in chapter 3. Just fyi, at the beginning of each chapter there are content/trigger warnings listed in the top left corner, just be aware of that please! Another great reaction. I have some thoughts on the “k-pop” industry. Yes, it’s not as bad as the western media make it out to be. However, it is high pressure, and start so young. It takes a special person who continues to pursue their musical dream if they are cut by the company. I think one of the reasons that Aneesa adds the info about the K-pop industry in general is because Big Hit does things differently. The boys are perfectionist and they work hours not necessarily because it’s demanded of them but because they want to do well. I remember seeing a documentary about Jin where he would practice by himself after hours because it took longer for him to get the choreo right. These boys are dedicated. My favorite part of episode 2 is the birthday prank even though it was tough to watch. JK was turning 16 and thinking about my students who are 16, I don’t know if they would appreciate the prank. But the boys really do love each other. And Soare, I am sorry you didn’t enjoy school. I’m a high school math teacher and I understand your feeling of disconnect with school. I love math and I do think it’s important but I think individual content is not as important as fostering a love of learning. RM is so remarkable. He is so wise for his age and so reflective. His lyrics are so clever and so poetic. He is in a unique situation as a group leader but he is not the oldest. I’m sure there were many sticky situation where the two came into conflict. I also love the Deleted Scenes and Bonus content! I’m looking forward to the next episode and your reaction to No More Dream. My favorite from that era is Just one Day. Thank you for your thoughtful reaction! 💜

13:01 100% you have to remember that BTS had no money or contacts for special press… their group who was shown as 6 before debut… debuting as 7 was def something they could do to create some buzz. V was the only person who didn’t audition in front of others or a competition that they would have been known from…. He was the second to last member to come to BTS but he was just with his friend bc he was auditioning and they told v he should just try out but he asked if he could have a day or so to practice and prepare and they said that was fine and he went in with bang pd close after they met him… rm Kind if recruited, suga auditioned, jhope auditioned, Jin was scouted for acting and visuals, jungkook was contacted after an audition with a tv show , and jimin auditioned bc he teacher talked him into it lol vs the only one they could really hide debuting bc the timing of the others and nobody really knew about him auditioning :)

Even that early on, they had made bonds with each other. It is so heartwarming when Jin was filming J-Hope before their debut, while getting his makeup done and Jin told Hobi to say something for the camera. Hobi didn't say " BTS Fighting" or "I hope we do good today". J-Hope said, "I love you, Bangtan". (Gulp...😭) 💜Apo💜💜💜💜💜💜💜Bangpo SOARE - Your "saucy" is cracking me up again ... and, yes, I agree Septa, pole dancing is excellent and a fun exercise. It was suggested to me by one of the ladies in my church shortly after I got married😏😉. Honestly, I think only the rap line came closest to pulling off the "hard" hip-hop concept. But they all are just so young and adorable ... I can't even cougar them yet except as cubs.

definitely a pot/kettle situation like you've said. I do feel like some of the negatives are legitimately concerning though. There is too much emphasis on things that shouldn't even be an issue. What bugs me most personally, is the idea that an 'idol' must be an unblemished, easily accessible for self insert- they love to push that. There ARE several groups that don't have any say in their music - wouldn't be wrong to call them performers. What i've noticed with bighit and BTS is that they didn't necessarily do anything out of the box, they just focused on the important things and did them right. A few things BH did that made me respect them - encourage the boys to show their true personalities in an industry that idolizes perfection. They also do not have the concept of trainee-debt and (in recent years) have hired in-house mental health experts. For BTS, I think theirs is a wonderful case study on how genuine Teamwork can get you far. I really respect how they're able to show their sincerity and vulnerabilities to millions.

I've seen the Birthday prank only once I always rewind that part bc it's painful to watch. Same as when they pranked RM (arguably even worse!!!) and similar thing on American hustle life. It was a marketing strategy that probably payed off but I don't want to see my boys hurt, thank you!

i think the view of kpop as corporate is that unlike in America, they are trained by companies and it's industry-wide convention. in America we don't mainly have companies that recruit people and put them through years-long training.
@BetterGreta132 жыл бұрын
BUT, I somehow, BTS rose above the restrictions and transcended the genre. They are no longer K-Pop. I think they have transformed the industry. Do you?

Actually yes America does have that (DISNEY) for one.

@@BetterGreta13 i think Suga said the best way to define kpop is not a genre or industry but "integrated content": the singing w dancing and videos. so in that regard they are still kpop although I think during Festa RM mentioned that when they perform in the future as a group they might not always dance which i thought made sense, in that, maybe down the road if they're busy with solo activities there might not be time or opportunity to coordinate everyone to practice dancing, especially if a few members ever relocate to different cities. the reason i posted above was because during this episode that guy was countering how the west feels that kpop is more corporate and at that point the couple paused the video and gave their opinion on why the west might have this perception. i was giving my two cents on the source of that perception, which on second thought i think they indirectly referred to by using the term "organized' which i guess is referring to how everything is regimented once entering the trainee programs, which again, don't exist in the west. we don't have companies that recruit and train.

@@BetterGreta13 i think where they seem to have transformed their industry is by showing the importance of writing their own music, being artists.

@@cnot4948 oh really, do they recruit a bunch of trainees who live in dorms and train everyone and then make cuts and form groups among those that make the cuts?

At some point, you'll hear about American Hustle Life, if you haven't already. Personally, I can't watch it past the first episode. The boys were sent to LA to learn about Hip Hop culture. They knew that they were going to work, not relax and have fun, but their management staged a kidnapping by their new mentors. The boys seriously thought that they'd been kidnapped and they were terrified. Take the cringe factor of the birthday prank and multiply it by seven. I've heard that it got better after the first couple of episodes, but I just can't get past their genuine fear. Seeing them so frightened actually made me cry, even though it was years ago. Thankfully, they stopped most of the really nasty pranks after that.

It's always interesting to hear your perspective since you are also musicians. This was another good episode,and I like how they offer insights on how things work in the korean entertainment industry. And I totally agree with you guys...they try with their debut looks to sell an image of badass guys but whenever I see them I always think "aww,they're so cute" 😄. And yeah,RM's mature thoughts are always such a wonder for me when I think how young he was at that time.I was wondering wouldn't it be easier if you watch after the episode the mv that they mention?🤔 Like for example after episode 1 you could have watched 'No More Dream' and 'We are Buletproof pt2', and after this one the 'N.O.' mv from their 2nd album. I mean,this way you could kill 2 birds with one stone: get some insights and also learning about their discography.🤔 But probably it's time consuming and difficult to edit. Sorry if I stepped out of line,and please do not be pressured on doing anything that is not on your own rhytm,I would still watch your reactions anyway. Hope I expressed what I meant to say well,since english is not my main language.

It's cool hearing your thoughts on this documentary. It's obvious that you're music lovers with your own experiences on what it's like for you as musicians and it's nice seeing your reactions to learning more about a new sector of the music industry. I always feel bad for poor Jungkook with the birthday prank but I'm glad they gave him loves of hugs and love after. He's always been so beloved and doted on as the maknae of the group that it must have been even harder to feel like maybe he let the group down. RM could go into acting with how well he did the disappointed dad moment. That might have been the hardest part for JK with how much he hero worshipped RM back then. It was totally a sibling prank lol. Brothers really go all out especially. It's wild to think that they only had 3 months pass since their debut and they're already talking about starting work on the second album.

I wasn't a fan of the birthday prank either. All I could think of was poor JK, just turning 16 (in global age), already living away from his family and working full time and here they are scaring him into thinking he was messing up bigtime. I'm sure with it being this early in their careers, he didn't feel 100% secure in his career yet.....also...if you know you didn't make a mistake, how the heck do you attempt to correct it?? lol. This episode (timeline wise) was only about 3 months from the first episode (not 3 years), because the first episode started just before debut and this was just after. I appreciate your perspective as musicians...I hadn't even thought of the big difference between western and Korean music shows was original music vs covers....good point. I love what RM said in the deleted scenes...he was basically saying that happiness shouldn't just be a destination....but the journey can be enjoyable too. I agree..the deleted scenes are amazing (and starting with next chapter there are deleted and bonus content for the rest )Thanks for reacting.

I’ve been looking forward to the new episode 😆 They were trying so hard to be hardcore 😂 it is adorable to us now They did make an impression with that image tho Music shows are a mix bag too, because the acts don’t get paid (or barely ), filming schedules are very gruelling (long hours, often overnight) and the show producers often hold all the power so they can be mean/rude to the talents, but yes they do get exposure. Suga kinda spoke about it briefly in last year’s Weverse magazine interview. I don’t like that prank either. I feel like they were better about doing pranks like these later.

Sometimes I wish I have found them sooner so I could have been supporting them from the start, but it is as it is.
