September 15th (Lyle Mays / Pat Metheny) transcribed & performed by Uwe Karcher

This is a very special tune for me. I bought the Metheny / Mays „Wichita" Album in 1981 at the tender age of 17 ☺, and it blew me away (and still does). Particulary „September 15th" (which is dedicated to Bill Evans and mainly composed by Lyle Mays) fascinated me from the very first moment on. I decided to transcribe it and to arrange it for Solo Piano. It was quite a challenge to combine Pat´s guitar parts with Lyle´s piano parts (especially in the first half of the tune), but I´m pretty happy with the result. Now, 30 years later, it´s great to have the opportunity to share this on KZbin with you guys. Hope you enjoy!
BTW, I transcribe a lot (mostly unpublished piano solo tunes played by Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Lyle Mays - just to mention a few). So if you like this video, stay tuned - there will be more to come in the future ☺

Hearing this on solo piano brings out even more emotion than the original recording, I think. With most other transcriptions and interpretations, either the skill level or interpretation can be distracting. Not with this. Wow! I'm stunned to hear someone other than Lyle playing my all time favorite piece of music so artfully. Your arrangement is beautiful. I've listened to the original version of this composition more times than I could ever count. It always moves me toward a state of grace. Your arrangement is inspired, especially from 4:30 to the end. I've been working on my own solo piano version of this (using the Pat Metheny Song Book chart) for a couple years now, and I'm only a quarter of the way through it. I hear such depth in your arrangement. Not sure whether to quit or try harder! :-) So glad I stumbled onto this beautiful offering you've put out into the universe. Keep up the excellent work.
