I drove my Mitsubishi Mirage for 17 years, up until this past July. It was my first car! I bought a 2000 Nissan Maxima with cash, using sinking funds only. I didn’t even touch my EF or my core savings. And, I did this while being unemployed. My car insurance went up by $5/mo, and my car now takes premium gas, BUT that’s better than a car payment. I’m still proud of myself.

Love this video because this year I had the most difficult year of my life, I found myself in the middle of divorce. The separation was the hardest because I was thousands of miles away from home, (family support) I had zero dollars in savings and my family had literally drive across the country to pick me and my 3 kids up. I was without a vehicle for 5 months until thanks to the income tax credit I recieved for my children I was able to put a down payment on a used car. It's a 2012 Chevy Equinox LTZ leather interior, electrical seats, sunroof all the works. The down payment was $2,500, and my payment were locked at $250 per month, and It would take 1 year and 3 months to finish paying it off! 😁 I am so happy with my car, she's my baby and I'm so grateful to God and my parents for their help and since I found TBM I am super excited to get my finances in order. My husband was big in brand spanking new vehicles and we never had any money for vacations and never cracked down on our savings because our expenses always exceed our income. I realized the very hard way that not having an emergency savings and a budget in place in my life was robbing myself and my family of a happy debt free life. 7 more months and I finish paying off my car and I am so happy with it. And I just ordered my first digital workbook and am 2 months in and am so excited and happy at my new financial goals. Last week for the first time ever I sent off my bills in gratitude and with joy, feelings th at I never had before because your program just makes budgeting so fun. Thanks to your video of saving money on a very tight budget this month I started 3 savings challenges: 52 week saving challenge, the change jar, and the $5 challenge. Thank you Kamiko

Yay Ryen, for doing so well with your cashless spending particularly since it wasn’t something you were used to doing. I have always been a 100% cashless spender, and the TBM spending trackers make it exceptionally easy and functional. I keep my money for cashless spending in an interest-bearing checking account so it’s earning interest while it’s waiting to be spent. (Indeed, it isn’t much interest, but any interest is good.) Keep up the great work!🙌🏽🙌🏽

So, while I appreciate for YOU electronic budgeting doesn't work, for ME it has totally helped me make the BBP method make sense. And YNAB is a budget by paycheck method, which I didn't get years ago when I tried to use it. For the first time since I started following BBP method, I have money left over from this check to roll over into the next pay period. So instead of knocking one method that may help someone understand your method, maybe be a little encouraging.

When I used to have an older car, it broke down all the time. Your monthly costs in upkeep may be just as much as your monthly car payment on your new car. If stuff starts breaking down depending on the condition and mileage on the car, you may pay more. Good luck either way. ❤️ jhdct from IG

I hate these newer models too, the bodies are like multi-plastic and tin can, just to fix a dent or scratch is so expensive, the majority of fixing is through computer diagnostics, these manufacturers of cars, like Big Pharma, are looking out for each others pockets, and I esp hate the new cars that shut off when you stop for a while and then start the engine again when you go... Save gas, I am not fully convinced and this puts more money into the fuel industry, a mess of monopoly and commercialism

@thebudgetmom - can you do a budget recap video showing a monthly close out for someone who is an all card spender? I have spending from my checking account (monthly auto drafted bills) and my credit card (bills, gas, groceries, eating out). I have my pay directed to two checking accounts - one for bills and the other for savings and money is transferred to my main checking towards bills. I have alot of money movement between accounts. I am struggling with closing out my budget as my numbers are way off. I have tried watching your IGTV videos but I need to see an example of someone who is an all card spender who has multiple paychecks coming in during the month and with money being transferred from savings to checking. A detailed video would be super helpful going through the expense tracker explaining what each transaction would fall under and going through the expenses that are transfers - do we count it or not, etc. Thanks.

The dealer had I had to buy it fast because they sell out of those vans fast. I said no I want to still look. While just this month I found a van I wanted. its a 2015 Ford transit. with 98,000 miles. The guy at the dealer asked if I wanted to test drive the van. I told him I didnt have time right now, but I would be back tomorrow to test drive the van. I did not make it back until the next week. By me waiting one more week, the place had lower the price of the van by $2,000 and they had just got it back from getting four band new tries put on the van. My husband and I have been working hard to get out of debt to improve our credit score. We got a loan that our payment is only $196 a month. My husband kept thinking that we had to have someone co-sign with us. He was not with me when I test drove the van and got the loan. Finally after three times telling him that no one co-signed the loan. He was so happy. Since I am finally able to work again. Starting in Jan of 2021 I will be making double payments on the loan. Right now we are working on paying off my husband one medical bill that has to be payed off by the end of Jan. 2021. Your videos have helped me alot. Thank you for sharing and what you do.

I can’t recall if this the first recap with the new BBP, but have you guys come across any changes while using the new products ( especially the single month booklet)? For example do you guys like the new books or find it different to use. I’m starting in January and have a bit of anxiety, that if I write in it I will mess up in my book, and it will not look not so good. I see other people using BBP and they have the same concerns, so my second question is, on top of trying to build a good and healthy relationship with money, did you ever experience anxiety that you may mess up your budget or that you may have to go back and correct it which makes you feel like you aren’t doing well? I hope these two questions makes sense.

Sorry ladies, but I think I disagree. The car gift, although a very nice gesture, the car is old and it does have a lot of mileage on it. If transportation expense is less than 15% of your current income, I think I would strongly reconsider. If your brother is giving it to you, maybe you can sell it and use that to put towards your student loan or the auto payment. Good luck either way.
