I'm very annoyed right now, spent all day prepping my food plot, spread seed and now my cameras are going crazy with a doe eating my fresh seeds. Not what I expected after being in there the last 2 days all day. I left a ton of scent but apparently it didn't keep them away. Now to figure the best method to keep them out until I'm ready for them to come in.

@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 yeah I wish. Got big into public land hunting the past few years. And majority of bucks have been on public not our family land. Hike back 1-2 miles and find the sign, but if I do see them they are across the property line and only make it to public at night. It’s tough out here in mn when every piece of public land gets slaughtered by the idiots gun hunting who drive everything.

Someone help me settle a myth... Does throwing out corn spook mature bucks in areas where there is virtually no farm land
@whitehondarider22
@whitehondarider22 18 күн бұрын
It definitely makes hunting mature bucks harder that hunting then naturally, people have this idea that bait piles is like shooting fish in a barrel and that could be true if you want to shoot yearlings but those mature bucks know all about bait piles and no matter how you hunt them they will bust you
@Buelford
@Buelford 18 күн бұрын
@@whitehondarider22 I have a nice 6x6 that's come through my spot 2 times and both times, he's completely ignored the corn. I've heard so many different people argue about this, but I think we're just going to stop baiting in that area and see what happens. Thanks for your input I appreciate it.
@whitehondarider22
@whitehondarider22 18 күн бұрын
Okay so ive done alot of bait hunting and theres alot of self taught lessons when it comes to baiting when people say they got a big buck on there land i always try to sway them away from baiting because there is definitely a science to it for mature bucks, 1 thing is it draws in alot of attention from does and yearlings and i have been busted a sickening amount of times over a bait pile by a mature does with her fawn and they will sit over that pile and blow at you untill you get up and chase them away, a mature buck will almost always J hook around and into the bait and he is scent checking hard, his J hook is going to be in the thick cover around the bait before he goes in once again I have been busted a sickening amount of times and majority of the times my wind is right but the J hook ends up going over my walk in trail and when they pick up your boot scent he will be gone before you know it, he will not blow he will put his head down and dip out
@whitehondarider22
@whitehondarider22 18 күн бұрын
The deer will always bed next to the pile aswell so once again i have busted numerous deer trying to sneek into my stand around the pile, the best set up for bait is rifle season and having that bait 300 yards away and hunting down wind of the thick cover thats down wind and not going i to your stand until 10am and hunting all day, trust me i love putting apples out and feeding my deer so when season comes there is such an itch to hunt over or around a pile but non of the bucks on my wall came from a bait pile, but from hunting cover
@whitehondarider22
@whitehondarider22 18 күн бұрын
Majority of people throw the bait on a trail and you cant do that you need to find the correct place to use that bait so you have the cover and wind always in your favor

I’ve been trying something new this year. Where I live you can bait. So I’ve been going down there about once a week, walking around a lot, spitting on the ground, hell I’ve even peed a few times down there. But everytime I do, I throw a 1/4 bag of corn around. Now, I’ll simply go down there, and within 5-10 minutes of leaving the deer come in thinking there’s food. Goal this year: go down, spread my scent, feed them, leave, walk the long way around to my blind (so they think I left) and wait. It might only work once, but testing new things is just half the fun!

For those of us with Oct 1st starts, how much of a "summer" pattern would you say those deer are in? Having hunted IA/IL for many years I have never harvested a nice buck until at least Oct 25th. I have seen some big bucks before that, but never had a shot opportunity. My general rule these days is stick to public land prior to around October 25th. I certainly have the opportunity to take some does like that, but I try not to disturb any of my private land before pre-rut in N IL/IA.

The fall weather has moved into Long Island about 5 weeks early this year. Taking your advice from a past video, I installed a mock scrape 3 weeks ago at the intersection of 3 really busy trails that all connect beds to 2 different food sources. It is getting hit almost daily by 5 bucks ( 3 shooters!!!) and more does than I can count. Before finding your channel, I would have been in there way too early. Thanks for everything you do to help all of us stay out of our own way!!!!!!
