Great work! Love house colors. I would consider going ahead and put the greenhouse behind office. Then you can plant around it and have access to your office and garage for supplies. Seems much better than back at fence. That also saves your view. :)

Oh yes, love the idea of putting greenhouse behind your office. Also if you could take the back fence down, how beautiful it would be opened up. Perhaps a split rail fence for example! That view is priceless!!

Janey, you inspire me! I have been a gardener all my life. My favorite thing to do. I am 62 and have Lupus. Due to deteriorating health, we moves from Ohio to Central Florida zone 9B, 5 years ago. The last year I have been bedridden most of the time. First year of not having a garden of any kind. Watching you make such continual progress, day by day, and seeing how much has gotten done by doing that, I have new motivation to try to “get out in my garden today.” most days I don’t make it, but this month I generally do about 3 or 4 days a week. (Up a day, down a day) maybe only 20 minutes or so each time. BUT… that has allowed me to seed 5 watermelon hills, 4 yellow squash hills, a patch of corn, and green beans, also some flowers and herb plants (Proven Winners, of course)😉 All this by only a plant or Two at a time, or a couple seeds at a time. THANK YOU for the inspiration, my friend! 💕🌸

I actually love that this project is not super duper endless budget done.. as a normal not rich person I always find KZbinrs that start off small that I can relate to and then they get KZbin popular and then it changes the feel of the video.. having a team of 50 people putting in a 100k pond is great.. I love to see the beauty.. but I just relate more to having a 10 year plan and having my poor hubby do the construction as we can budget it in. I can’t really relate as well to a person with 1000$ worth of plants in a four wheeler to pop in.. it’s instant beauty but many of us can’t do that so we have to start seeds and slowly trudge through.

Why wouldn’t you just put the greenhouse in back of your office from the beginning? I think it would look better and you already have that potting area so it would flow and you wouldn’t be blocking the view of the barn. It would also help block that big round thing.

I agree with the lamp post idea or hanging baskets. In her previous video she decided to go with bird feeders but I question whether they’d be used much since there aren’t any trees close by. Usually birds don’t like to feed where they can’t take cover for safety.

A second gable over your front door would be wonderful. Build out the walls to the same base line as the existing gable, that will give you a foyer and balance the facade. Then add double front doors. You could make the new gable a bit wider and taller than the existing one to emphasize the main entry. This would do wonders for the house and add a bit of a landing space inside the front door.

So proud of you! This is so motivating and inspiring. Today I’m having a simple 36” (wheelchair compliant as I get older, this is my retirement home) tamped down decomposed granite (DG) pathway put in my backyard. It will define my long term plan so I don’t have to move plants later, as you’ve said. Maybe that could be a less expensive starter path from the back deck to the office. You can always add flagstone later but no mud or weeds in the meantime with defined borders. I think the landscape architect even mentioned decomposed granite pathways in the idea video.

You can also plant onions and garlic (need to pre-chill like tulips) there are a lot of veggies that you can grow over winter in zone 9B. Janey - you guys have accomplished so MUCH in a month. Congratulations! Just wanted to mention the white fly infestation. I suffer with those in zone 9a coastal Alabama. I don’t have a great solution but I can tell you they will make your plants pretty sick. They have literally taken out 3 6ft viburnum bushes in my yard. They secrete “honeydew” and make a complete mess of your plants. You mentioned beneficial which I wanted to try this year but our temps were outrageously hot (triple digits) and they have to be in temps in the 80’s to survive. I am sure i will learn a trick or two from you on how to eradicate them but just wanted to encourage you not to let them go on too long. Again congratulations on your first month in the new house.

Janey, maybe you can narrow down the driveway, and make the gazebo island more circular to include the septic access? That way the driveway doesn’t go right up to it. You would only need to narrow down that section for now-just jackhammer the edge out to round it out. Hope that makes sense. You have accomplished so much already! And only in one month. Great work, but don’t forget to rest and drink your water.💗

Good morning Janie, I had whiteflies in my garden last year. They were all over my tomatoes, roses and killed my flowering maple bush. I read that earthworm castings help repel them. Since I didn't want to spray my tomatoes, I decided to try it. I got several bags at Costco. I'm not sure if it was actually the castings but I noticed that the amount of white flies was reduced. This spring I grabbed several bags and added it to my garden. I have not seen one whitefly this season. I can't believe it. I really don't know if it was the castings but I am going to do it again next spring. Your planter is looking happy with the fall colors. I think you won't even see the zigzag when it is full and overflowing with beautiful things.

I suddenly had two ideas that popped into my head. You spoke about your office door not being centered. Why not put a 12 inch wide pretty trellis on the far right side and plant some type of climber? It would draw the eyes away from the door a bit. And in regards to the "barn". 🐎 Being a lifelong farm and rodeo girl where we buy property because of the barn size and the house didn't matter. On the fence right next to the barn, (ask neighbors first) you could put up a small cute weather proof picture frame and cut a hole the size of the frame. It would take about one day for the horses to figure out that you have fresh carrots! You would have your very own treat window. To me horse breath is as enticing as puppy breath. At Christmas maybe you could hang a wreath around the picture frame? Your place is starting to look ~AMAZING~♡~ Wishing you the very best blessings always. Laura in Washington

Consider maybe pushing sofa area forward three or four feet and making a straight shot from deck to office, so you don’t have to worry about walking across your rug. Yes Janey. I read Neem oil or mix 1 tablespoon Castile soap with 1 quart of water and spray the underside of the leaves. If you use the soap recipe it coats the eggs, larvae, and adults and suffocates and kills them. Spray either one of these in the morning or evenings when it is cooler. Good Luck! Your new house and property are coming together really nicely. Great color choice.

My suggestion would be to put your 2 pots with your tree roses on each side of the door to your office. The pots are special and it would give some height to the front of the building. Have you considered putting the green house on the concrete pad beside your office? The pad and drainage is already there. Plus, you don't really need more raised beds there, you already have like eight. Also, you may want to think about if you really want a door through the office to the greenhouse. The office isn't that big and it will take one of your walls. Just some thoughts - making some good progress!

Sorry if I missed this in any of your videos, but as a homeowner with a septic system I have to ask: 1) Have you had the septic tanked pumped out, yet? If not (and if the previous homeowner didn't have it done before the sale) I would strongly recommend you do that now, so you know the system won't be backing up any time soon and you'll buy yourself several years of peace of mind. 2) Have you had the leach field inspected? If it will need to be replaced it's far better to do so sooner rather than later (when you risk the system backing up) and before you plant up the area. 3) Remember: shallow roots ONLY over a leach field. NO TREES! It's intimidating, but EXCITING to have a whole new property to plan and plant and watch everything grow. Don't allow yourself to become overwhelmed, but take it one step at a time: every step you take is leading you in the right direction. Progress is the perfect path to travel (it may have twists and turns but it's always an adventure)! :)

You could take those stepping stones that you removed from the front and side and paint them slate and use those for the time being to make a temporary path way from the back deck to your office. That would be cost efficient and look ok for the time being

I think if you layer a bunch more pots by the the three white pots by the zigzag planter, it’ll realllly disguise the zigzag vibe

On Jim Putnam you tube he suggested putting out some marigold seeds to planting Mums. Another place to look for large cardboard is places that sell fridges, large TV's, fridges, freezers, washing machines and dryers. The local place here always gets rid of his boxes. Use to get them out of his dumpster with his permission but now he just leaves them on sidewalk as I was not the only one who wanted them. The large TV boxes were always my favorite. Just an idea. We live on 90 acres but rent out the pasture. Here you can leave stuff out by and people street and the public here know they are free to pick up.

Amen on using local garden centers! Big box growers are not growing plants in our zones and they are not invested in making the plants thrive.

So much work! So much progress! You all definitely need a Pajama Day! My suggestion for the slightly off center office door is to add more pots, 3 to 5 on on side, 5 to 7 on the other. Your eye will be drawn to the variety of plants in the cluster of pots.

You and Jason have done a fantastic job!! I look forward to your video every morning. I live in Southern California zone 10b and it's great to have garden videos that reflect my growing zone. I also battle white fly, especially on my gardenias. I've found the best deterrent is worm castings. In the spring I put down a layer all around the gardenias and add a cup or two each month during the summer. It works really well for me. I also spray the underside of the leaves with water to keep the eggs washed off. Hope that works for you like it has for me.

The torn down raised bed in the front matches the raised beds in the back. You can add a higher/ deeper raised bed to the veggie garden.

Your home looks beautiful.. Do you have any plans to remove some of the driveway in front of the zigzag planter.. I think it would look less harsh without the pavement.. I know whatever you do is going to look beautiful

HI Janie, Love watching your progress! I would do as others have suggested and put the greenhouse where you plan for it to go long term. Just plant some grass seed where the future pool will go. Then you will be moving forward with your overall plan. Nothing obstructing your view of that gorgeous barn!

Hey Janie! My name is Kandi. First… I want to say, I love your videos! And your new home is amazing! Your last home was pretty spectacular as well😊. I live in Mississippi, in the country and I love planting and flowers. I just love a pretty yard and landscape. I pretty much have always planted the same things over and over…because it’s what I know. But you have inspired me to step out of my box and learn new things and experiment with lots of new varieties. I’m so excited for next spring planting. I now have so many new ideas. I appreciate you sharing your love and knowledge with us all. And I’m so excited to see the progress at your new home! ♥️

Maybe put a corrugated round water feature in the center of your raised bed gardens. You could float flowers in or put fish in it, like Erin from the impatient gardener. Just a thought. 🌺💚🙃

You’ve done a lot in one month. It’s looking great. If it were me I would put your greenhouse where I wanted it in the first place. Ana White has a website with free plans to build things. She has greenhouse design you can build your self and save money. Some people add different finishes and some make their greenhouses longer. People who made this greenhouse post photos of how they finished theirs. Actually, this design would fit your your property in the country and the design of your garden. It has a gabled roof and it would play off the barn view and you could use corrugated metal along the bottom to play off your planting beds. I would not want to block the view of that gorgeous barn either. Why not just put your greenhouse where you want it in the first place? I put things in places “just for now” and just for now ends up being permanent because of budget.

Good morning, Janey☕️ I think the zig zag either needs one more white pot to the left or, remove them all together. It’s not balanced and throws off the look, imo.
