I have a VERY small containor garden at my work. I recently up potted my orange tree and am thinking about planting carrots and spinach around the border. Beyond that, ive got a pepper plant, next to my behemoth basil that made this summer look ezpz with how wild it went, and a whole bunch of lavendar, rosemary, zinnia's, and zincas in the big pot next to it. My crew universally wants a bunch of peppers so im gonna add 3 into this big pot i have and hopefully get a dozen or two peppers. Beyond all that, depending on my budget, i would love to add strawberries.
@Dsrtgardener5 ай бұрын
I started all my brassicas last week, tomatoes, peppers and onions last month. I have more zinnias, cosmos and 4 o’clocks hardening off to plant this weekend. I’m trying to focus on flowers to plant this fall for spring. I started echinacea, aster, pincushion, primrose, snapdragon, dahlia, Gazania, African daisy, and alyssum. I’m in the west valley. When is the best time to start cardinal climbers from seed indoors? Love your videos! I’ve learned a lot since I started gardening about 4 years ago!

I'd start cardinal climber now or you can direct sow next month.

Thanks to you, I’ve planted cucamelon and the beautiful vining Malabar spinach. Thank you! I’m starting fall garden veg such as broccoli, cabbage, celery, peas, a lettuce mix, and lots more flowers. I wish I could show you the beautiful raised bed I’ve planted following your suggestion to plant flowers and some vining plants to provide shade and protection to my summer veg peppers. It’s beautiful! Can you recommend a source for the illoi onions you grow?

They can be hard to find. Check local nurseries this fall or online at Native Seed Search.

I have three types of broccoli, three types of cauliflower, dwarf tomatoes, salvia, snapdragons, petunias, and dianthus from seed, they are setting their second set of true leaves. Planning to plant beans, cukes, and melons just to see if I can get them to harvest before frost since we are having such a long drawn-out summer! Lettuce, spinach, carrots, turnips, beets, rutabagas and maybe kohlrabi once the night temps lower some more.

I am direct seeding carrots and chitted potatoes. Brassicas and Legumes will do double duty as crop to eat and soil amendment. Monsoon tomatoes and peppers are already in and flowering. Spinach will be a companion for strawberries. This is my second year and I did not do a very good job keeping the Chandler plants alive and have sweet sensation plugs on order with early October delivery.

Phoenix is 9b & 10a so maybe, but I would go online and look for your county's Master Gardener planting calendar which is specifically created for the microclimate in your area.

Where do you get your strawberries? And what type do you plant?
@GrowingInTheGarden4 ай бұрын
Check local nurseries. Varieties to try in the low desert of Arizona: Eversweet (continuous harvests of large, sweet strawberries throughout spring and fall); Chandler (early to mid-June bearing); Quinault; Sequoia ( June-bearing plant, commonly grown in Arizona); Tristar (heavy crop in early spring, slow production in hot summer weather, and large berries in the fall).

Questions : My tomatillos never fruited , even with hand pollination, I do have 3 plants. What am I doing wrong? is it still too hot? 2nd question when can I plant rhubarb? do I start indoors? and when?
@GrowingInTheGarden4 ай бұрын
Could be the heat. If you're in low desert - rhubarb doesn't grow well here. We dont get cold enough and it's too hot for it to grow well.

4 weeks ago I planted some cucamelon seeds indoor but I had to travel and my 6 plants died 😢 can I planted cucamelon and cucumbers seeds outside?
@GrowingInTheGarden4 ай бұрын
Cucumber for sure yes. Cucamelon seeds can be tricky to germinate. I'd try again and get them started indoors. You could also try planting them outside if you have extra seeds.

@@GrowingInTheGarden thank you! I’m going to start indoor and outdoor, from my 6 plants looks like one is good! The other ones looks dump off( I don’t know if dump off is the correct word sorry my English is not my first language) or fell off but still looks green..

I started broccoli and brussels inside so I could set out mid september. They all came up but the stems are like 4 inch threads and they all fall over and eventually wilt away. I set a fan to blow gently on them several times a day to help strengthen them but nothing has worked! What could I do differently?!

That means there wasn't enough light. You'll need to start over with a stronger light source closer to the seeds. You can learn more here: growinginthegarden.com/how-to-start-seeds-indoors-10-steps-for-success/
