Jes the Patriots came out around 2002 or so. They were the first ones who held the white in them all season. Other than Francee( Patriot's parent), white margined hostas would revert to green midsummer. Patriot spawned a whole lot of them that hold their variegation. Minuteman is virtually identical but taller. Loyalist is reversed with the white inside (it's gorgeous too) and Fire and Ice is the same as Loyalist but very small (about 8 inches). We couldn't keep them in stock when they first came out. If you're looking for a very unusual and gorgeous larger hosta, look for Embroidery. We got ONE in. It was one of those huge, monster truck size plants and was priced over 200 bucks. It sold instantly. Never saw another, but I am always watching. My favorite combination of plants involve a plum pudding in front of a Chocolate Joe Pye with a silver lace fern. I have them in front of a redwood fence in bright light but no sun and it's just breathtaking. They're all purple tinted.

Jes, your voice is beautiful at the end of today’s video & I love the plantings you did. P.S. You should share some of your extra Hosta’s with your Mom too. Your family really cleared out that back view up for her 💗

I had a bunch of Patriot hosta at our lake house, brought some home and it makes a great filler in the shade garden.

Thanks for singing to us Jes. I get goosebumps every time. Your gardens are beautiful as ever. I started cutting back my perennials these past weeks too. I’ve also started separating them and placing plants around my gardens. Yeah!!! Free plants 😊

Omgosh I think I have a bunch of patriot hostas, I know they are an older variety, they look very similar to yours, I never knew the name. I love the ladies mantle, love the circle idea, it reminds me of coral bells a tiny bit..great job, say hi to max & natey..❤

Putting that Patriot hosta there was perfect because you didn't have any variegated hosta in that section! I bought some patriot hosta a few falls ago, but they didn't return in the spring. I need to get some more!

Hi Jes: how often do you water your Hostas? Have you ever seen any brown or yellow leaves on your beautiful Hostas? Thank you.
@menow7851Ай бұрын
They have sprinkler heads pop up for the lawn and flowers. She says she only waters when she plants something. After that, "its on its own". "I'm not hauling hoses around". I LOVE her garden.
@BerthaStarksАй бұрын
@@menow7851 I appreciate your input. However, it is important that I hear from Jes directly, as Jes is a master gardener. Jes has been my inspiration for creating my shade garden. My question is pertaining to her Hostas only. The majority of her Hostas are far away from her house and irrigation system. I am eagerly awaiting Jes' reply. Thanks anyway.
@jesthesinginggardenerАй бұрын
I just water them in when I plant them and them maybe a few more times. But after that they are on their own. The rain and our grass sprinklers hit them.
