I think you could also put a big pipe on the vent pointing upward to the same level or higher than your roof(works like plumbing vent)

In the United States we typically don't vent Septic Tanks, but Pumping Stations and/or Leaching Fields. In fact, many modern systems require a Candy Cane or Gooseneck Vent at the far end of the Leachfield/Drainfield. In some cases, the Distribution Box can also be vented, but not the Septic Tank. To be fair, in Great Britain, you guys probably do things differently, because it seems like that's the case.

Also a vent on top of the house. I understand the primary purpose of that is to let air IN during drain events, but it does also let methane from the septic rise out via the home plumbing as well.

@@paulklapperich7520 You are absolutely correct... it's frequently referred to as the "stink pipe" which is usually visible on the roof of the house. In any case, in addition to venting the internal plumbing of the home, it does allow some of the gases from the septic to exit or escape, via the rooftop. However, venting the Leaching Area which is typically a Leachfield or Drainfield of some kind, not only helps to promote oxygen transfer, but it aids in the evaporation of excess water. The bottom line is this, the more airflow the better.

Point 1 - Methane is colourless and odourless - the smell is more likely to be traces of Hydrogen Sulphide from the anaerobic digestion process Point 2 - Current UK Building Regulations H.2. Para 1.21 requires septic tanks to be vented and the vent 'kept away from buildings'. I would recommend you have a thorough re-read of Building Regulations and British Standards and re-word your videos to suit. For instance, your suggestion of using crates on the outfall of a septic tank is way off what Building Regulations require. Ideally all parts of the system should be accessible for inspection and jetting where practicable, with plenty of inspection chambers at junctions. Good of you to share knowledge but please make sure it's accurate.

So I don't have a smell issue but I have an ugly "candy cane" white PVC pipe. Can I cut down the pipe (and to what height?) get rid of the PVC Return Bend and use the mushroom cap you describe, again how high off the ground should it be?
