I am Zulu and this issue of Languages concern me. Please dont fight with me, I just want clarity. Firstly, except for the soapies based in KZN, all soapies incorporate other languages apart from Zulu. Generations is a good example. Secondly, SABC 2 used to play a lot of Setswana and Sepedi stories. Are Pedis and Tswanas watching this channel to support their languages? Also, there are radio stations that are dedicated to these laguages. No one will invest or write a story in Languages that are not supported. Zulu's support their language, music and radio stations. Are other cultures not doing the same? Why?

Zulu is being pushed ahead of all the others. Even the music industry. Noticed it a long time ago. With the old stories, the language were very diverse and well represented without pushing an agenda. They are trying to make it the primary language for business in south Africa as they are doing with swahili in most of the African countries without having to resort to English between Africans. That's why even digital translators have zulu, afrikaans and rarely the other languages.

KZN is the second largest populated province in SA, with mainly one language spoken. Production companies are interested in numbers, if something is in a popular language it will highly likely trend. Multi choice cut productions so they buy cheap Indian or Turkish productions. Turkey translate for Afrikaans. Bollywood is trsnslate mostly to English and Xhosa now. We speak isiZulu and understand other Nguni languages. Unfortunately, the emphasis on learning certain languages early is not solely due to their size; rather, it is influenced by tribalism. We tell people to be proud of the Africanness, then we turn to derogate them based on how and what they speak. Even when conversing with Tsonga people, I find it challenging to do so in the presence of Zulu individuals without encountering derogatory comments. The issue is that those of us who can communicate in almost all the languages are accused of promoting tribalism when we speak out against it. Somehow this guy had to learn another language to survive, the person who has the comfort to speak just one language and have their way still call out Seputla, the person who is making a reference to English and all only knows his mother tongue and through that, he can have 80/100 opportunities than other black people in this country. My issue is one, some languages are more official than others, based on that, some people are more human and equal than others. We talk about equality when it suits us, but when it comes to facing inequality issues across the board, guess what, the least diverse on African cultures blame those who are more diverse for hating on Africanism. Every African is ready to talk about discrimination until tribalism is put on the table. Somehow you realise why white people are so defensive on racism. It;s very inhumane that people who perpetuate tribalism will tell the victims to just get over it and not complain since they don't complain about English.. Such mentality is the reason why we still facing the traumas of colonialism and apartheid, especially in education. Most children are not dumb, they only have a challenge called English, fact that Children don't complain, doesn't make it fair. We think white people are smart, they just have an advantage called English, as I say again, we do not refuse to speak Isizulu, we know the language, anyone who doesn't want to learn your culture looks down on you, perfect example is Europeans when they came to Africa, they enforced their culture, It doesn't feel much different today. Only difference, it's being done systemically by Africans.

I love you guys, I just wish you would pounder on this: it is not about tribalism it is SABC caused this things & not created social cohesion. When South Africa started when dramas in GP were made in Sepedi as the tribe white people that was in the Transvaal = Boers/Dutch colony. After defeat of Bapedi in 1879 Transvaal was made in to West, East and Northern Transvaal which included Pretoria . In 1910 we became a country British/Colony(Cape), Natal(British/Colony, Orange Free State(British Colony). When dramas were supposed to use investments from the country resources they found in GP to create social cohesion that included all languages. Some ignorant people in the SABC made a mistake and not invested in all languages in portraying them in Generations etc we could have made language or social cohesion easier . Now this disadvantaged even tribes of the Transvaal are not included. We missed an opportunity cause of SABC and the ignorant black government.

I see many comments stating "tribalism" and I fail to fathom that because for instance MultiChoice is a huge white corporation and the Zulu stories get to be supported by an overwhelmingly vast majority because of the high population of the Zulus which is the highest. It's the same with the music. When artists sing in Zulu, they get much support. Look at how massively Maskandi artists are being supported by just only Zulus and mostly from the rural Nothern KZN. There are many radios stations but look at how how Ukhozi fm, a Zulu based radio station is so dominant, it's the support from its people, let's not be swayed into harbouring hate for one another. The government currently is so diverse, and most of the officials aren't Zulu, so it's not amaZulu who are sidelining other nations, I hate the word tribe. I think the provinces should advocate for more production of stories in their respective native languages. In that way, there won't be a need for other entertainers to strictly know and speak Zulu to be successful. Look at what the Eastern Cape is doing with promoting isiXhosa with their many soapies, very brilliant. As person who is so passionate about the history of black people, I wish that the other nations create many stories about their history in their respective languages, in that way even a person in the most remote rural KZN or EC can be able to learn those languages. Stories of the African kings like King Hintsa, Sekhukhune, Sobhuza, Moshoeshoe, etc. should be created so that we can be enlightened as a whole nation. The Europeans always created history stories to preserve their history, and it's a swiftly efficient way of teaching as well.

Abt 4 billion spent on the production by multi choice but only zulu population benefitted most. I found it really unfair and further marginalising other language groups. Which authority supports this so called Zulu privilege. Every facet of South African politic is run by people with Limpopo roots. Even on national TV, isiZulu shares its own allocated time with other languages, not any time more. If people who speak isiZulu support their own, why blame them, as Ukhozi radio station has more listener-ship, you mean to tell me some people deliberately add to those numbers. You mean there are places in this country where isiZulu is exclusively allowed by authority to be the only language spoken, which authority is that because Ramaphosa is not umZulu, Lesufi is not umZulu.
