Thanks for watching! Quick note: I mentioned the Take 5 is 1300. Well, it looks like it's 1500 now. Not sure where the price jump happened, but it was literally a few days ago 💀

It's still 1290 euro on thomann and no price change experienced in Europe. Thanks for the review, I am certainly purchasing this synth after a lot of research.

I think ithe take5 sounds warmer but not better than a rev2. The rev2 has an airy grainy sound thats unique. Mixfriendly and its a real Instrument.

Thnak you for the lovely presentation. I'm quite balanced between the Take 5 and the Pro3, although I'm aware of the differences between the two machines. But, there's only budget for one. I'm also looking on the "live" performance situation, to play basses, etc, which makes me think a lot about the Pro3

Hi, good review. By the way, initial and frequent detune is not a bug, it’s a feature, as stated on the manual: the Take5 will learn your environment temperature and tweaks itself after some retunes. For me after 3-4 retunes across 2-3 days it never detuned anymore. I think that when you plugged in USB either it was a coincidence or your Take 5 ‘s temperature raised up for that.

It is February 2023 as I watch this video for the first time. I have resolved to make this calendar year a no-purchase year, hoping to get gear acquisition syndrome under control. Otherwise, this little bugger definitely would be tempting the you-know-what out of me as I watch the video. It probably picks up more or less where the Prophet 600 left off 40 years ago. It’s easily the first Sequential Circuits synthesizer to really test my resolution. Not that there’s anything wrong with the Prophet 10, only that it is a boutique-grade instrument (not to be confused with the Roland boutique modules), and I’m on a limited income. That split parameter would be of the greatest use if somebody were to slave the synthesizer to a MIDI controller with 61, 76 or 88 notes. That would be how I would integrate this into my arsenal if I had it. I’m assuming it is so heavily compacted that Sequential wouldn’t market it as a tabletop module

You could pick up the Pro 800 instead, which is an awesome synth in it's own right!

so, when you assign the cutoff to the mod wheel, does that remain active when you change the patch or do you have to route it again?

Im very curious to know how settings can be saved digitally for analog knobs and faders. Like, when you turn a knob on this thing arent you turning an actual potentiometer? If so, how does the chip save the position and recall the position when the knobs arent in the original position? Im sure I have a misunderstanding of how this works. Also, the filter is a potentiometer as well, how do you use the mod wheel to control that potentiometer when the filter knob is not moving??? I really want to know how this stuff works. I know the Take 5 has analog oscillators but a digital envelop generator, but the filter is analog and so are many of the other circuits right???

Modulations are cool, but it has a very bland sound. I've listened to a to all the demos and it just sounds a bit dull to me. Hard to get excited about this one. Please do a follow up after a couple of month, I would like to hear your take (no pun intended) after owning it for awhile.
@damiandean46983 жыл бұрын
You're right. I started off thinking this thing was pretty cool since modulating on my current synths is a pain in the f%$#ing arse; but now that you've mentioned how dull it sounds I can't unhear it.

Hmmmm, I'm really trying to like this synth, but my "take" so far is just, well, underwhelming. Sounds are just "meh". Five-note polyphony and the price tag are basically putting me off. IMHO there are better synths with more features and a fuller sound for a lot less money - Korg Modwave, Opsix and Minilogue XD spring to mind, and the Novation Peak. I could purchase any two of the Korgs and still have change left over for the price of the Take 5.
@xfghffhfg3 жыл бұрын
all you mentioned are mass produced so they cost much less to manufacture but you will not get "fuller sound" with any of this korgs anyway, they sound light and digital like they are. the xd is nice sounding but not "fuller sounding" synth. peak is great too for about the same price but it's a hybrid desktop synth so it's not really comparable. anyway it's stupid to compare synths, the modewave and take5 has less in common than a guitar and violin. some cost less some cost more, no problem with that. you don't buy only one...
@phazerbrains3 жыл бұрын
Add the MFB Synth Pro to your list - it costs around $1100 and is 8 voice, 3 osc analog. Beats the sound of the T5 by a country mile. I think the only thing going for the T5 is the mod matrix, but I agree, the sound is "meh" on this one.
@xfghffhfg3 жыл бұрын
@@phazerbrains the mfb synth pro sounds more raw but it much more simpler and can't do allot the t5 can, just like the t5 can't do what the synth pro does. so we back to "compering synths is nonsense" but if they are so comparable to you, i would recommend to get them both.
@phazerbrains3 жыл бұрын
@@xfghffhfg My point is the MFB has a better sound. I am not interested in the T5 because you can have all the modulations but if the basic sound is bland they are not very interesting to me.
@xfghffhfg3 жыл бұрын
@@phazerbrains there is no such thing has a "better sounding synth" only different. they are tools that do things differently. it's like preferring the color blue and not use the reds. your logic will not work if i gave you a blind test of multiple presets and you would have to choose what synth is it between this two.
