In This Weeks Video We Are Hiking Big Baldy In Sequoia National Park And Taking A Look At My Favorite Airbnb Cabin In Three Rivers, CA That Looks Down On The South Entrance To The Park.
While This Is The Third Part Video Of The Sequoia Trip, It's Actually Events Of The First Day Of The Trip.
If You Only Have One Or Two Days To Visit The Park, I Highly Suggest Considering A Quick Peak At The Giant Forest, General Sherman And Accompanying Trees, And The Big Baldy Hike.
If You Are Looking To Stay Outside The Park In Three Rivers, Check Out Jana's Place, The Bohemian Mountain Glamporama Cabin! ( Airbnb ) Its A Little Small So Best For Solo Or Couples, But Extra Cozy And In My opinion, A Perfect Place To Stay Close To The Park.

I went to Sequoia in November, a few weeks after this video. What incredible weather! The drive up the mountain scared me a little I’ll admit, especially in dense fog as it was early morning, but what a reward it is once you reach 2000ft Amazing place, simply amazing

Hello there ! Was that your first time there? The drive up can be a little challenging for some with the rapid elevation gain and a few super tight windy turns, imagine doing that in chains with snow yikes! We are so fortunate on the west coast to have such beautiful parks, some of the most amazing views in the world. Sequoia feels so much like home every time I go back. If there was a way to make a really good living wage working in the park Id be there tomorrow! Glad you got to visit :)

@@zacmagers Yes, it was my first time in California as a whole. I am actually planning to visit the rest of the parks on the eastern Sierra(Yosemite, Sierra National Forest, and Kings Canyon) sometime this year. What time of year would you recommend to visit when it’s not snowing and not crowded?

Thats an awesome goal:) I cant speak to Yosemite, SNF or kings, but I enjoy going to Sequoia the 2nd /3rd week of September during week days. Its right after the holiday, folks have gotten their summer visit over with, kids back in school, temperatures cool - mild, no snow yet of course but occasional lightning. Maybe a few bears getting their last meals in but nothing too wild :) Unless you head towards 9-11K feet you might have some snow If we get record rainfall again this winter / spring, by September the rivers and lakes are still amazing! A great day trip falls to visit is Tokopah Falls, during the summer this is a very crowded easy day hike, towards the end of the year much less people and great for a day visit hike with a great view reward. Morro Rock is also beautiful although the crowds stay pretty constant.

It’s a great spot to have on the list! So many beautiful national parks, but something is just so moving about Sequoias. Plus it’s pretty easy to avoid huge crowds :) It’s hard to see all the burn areas from recent lightning strikes but it’s going to be amazing to watch the natural renewing process over the next decade or so.

Howdy Chad! Thank you, I’ll do my best :) Actually haven’t been further than Pear Lake at this point but I’d really like to continue training and get to further / different lakes in the area. Hadn’t heard of Weaver lake before, I just looked it up and wow that looks beautiful! It’s funny you mention Jennie lake, I was just seeing someone’s recent trip info on Reddit to that lake. There is truly so much to explore there I wish I had more time…I’ve even occasionally looked at park jobs openings there so I could be closer. Watching videos of the Norwegian Xplorer channel visits to Sequoia are so inspiring, the ability he has to just charge through elevation gain and reach the distances he does. I’d love to do more of that in the park. Do you have some experience with Weaver and Jennie?

@@zacmagers yeah Weaver is great. Small and calm lake with trout at around 9k feet. Jennie is a bit further but larger. You’re right, so many places to explore! Sequoia surrounds Jennie lake’s wilderness so you can get to it via the same main entrance

@chadwinder4579 Sounds perfect and so far, that’s an elevation that I can handle ha. Ok it’s officially on the list, thanks for the suggestion :) I have a huge map of Sequoia / Kings that I mark off destinations I’ve reached, this will need to go on the map as well!

@@zacmagers I was meaning to ask you, what will your sleep system be for the winter? Layering bag and quilt? Just one warm quilt or bag?

Good question… So far it seems like the Badger MF 15 has served pretty well at 30-35 degrees overnight. I actually was just in shorts, a tank top, and patagonia tech sweater and it was perfect at that temperature. Getting out for a pee break and climbing back in is a chilly experience but you warm up so quick in that bag! At Pear lake I even had it mostly zipped at 3/4. I’ve got my eye on some spots in San Jacinto for this winter and I’m planning on using the badger MF, keeping with the Patagonia tech face sweater, Patagonia down sweater just in case. I sleep really warm but, even if the temps dip below freezing I know I’ll be ok with some darn tough socks and thermals in that Badger. While the Zen Bivy quilt seemed just fine in the low 40s, I’m not confident enough in that system just yet in freezing or sub freezing conditions. I do have the 25 and 10 degree bivy but it seems you have to be super mindful of getting every clasp and drawstring just right to prevent draft, just not feeling that sleep system yet.
