I plan on being there next week and watching your video made me even more excited! How long did each hike take and what was the travel distance between each spot?
@JustAdrift3 жыл бұрын
Hi Abigail! I’m excited for you. If we had one piece of advice I’d say start earlier than we did. While these stops aren’t terribly far from each other, traffic within the park can really slow you down. It also takes a fair amount of time to get into the park. If I had to do it over again I’d be at General Sherman a full hour (or more) earlier than we were there (I think we arrived around 9 am). That whole area is one we wanted to spend more time in because there are SO many humongous trees! General Sherman, Mono Rock and Tunnel Tree are all right next to each other. The hikes to General Sherman and Mono Rock I’d give each at least a whole hour or a little more. G.Sherman has the most signage and educational signage you’ll want to take your time and there’s often a lot of people there. Mono Rock you’ll want to enjoy the top for a while. The drive to the pizza deck took longer than I expected and we almost missed getting pizza since they close early. Little Baldy wasn’t too far from the pizza deck and I believe we started the hike around 4ish - this was a little late to start the hike since you want to be down before it starts to get dark. I would give 2.5 hours for this hike so you don’t have to rush. The hike is relatively short for such a big payoff at the top. We actually got stuck up there once we turned around to come down bc we ran into a bear with cubs. (Check out our Bear 🐻 video) Its wise to be off the trail before the twilight hour since that is ideal feeding time for the bears. Good luck and I hope you have a fabulous time!

A couple of years ago, i fell in love with Sequoia trees. Here we only have a few Sequoia trees that were planted late 1800, so they arent very old, but still gorgerous and beautiful. My favortite place to be and feel peace and gain strength. My dream was to make it one day to the Sequoia national park, its Nr. 1 on my bucket list. Unfortunately my health doesn't make it possible for me to travel anymore. So watching your video made me feel like i was there. It made me smile, cry and feel happy. Thank you for sharing your video of your trip there. Love from Switzerland, Ivi

One thing I may not have mentioned that was unique about visiting the General Sherman tree is that they have made the trail completely ada accessible. So if you ever do get a chance you may be able to get to this one. It is one of the best trails with educational signage as well and right next to Tunnel tree which you can keep looping around to go through (we did anyhow). This part of the grove is especially spectacular even if you’re driving through as it has some of the largest trees we saw. Take care !

Hi Joshua! From where we were staying it was about an hour drive in to get to General Sherman, so for us we took from 9 am at stop 1 (and get there early since this is a super popular spot) and we hiked Little Baldy 4-6 pm. It took about an hour to get back to the General Sherman area where we drove back and took more pictures we actually didn’t leave the park till around 8 pm - and we were the last to leave the park. You wouldn’t have to spend quite as much time but we were having a blast. It is a black bear. Grizzle bears are much larger and are extinct in California.

@@JustAdrift Yes, that is Man-Killer Grizzly Cub. Why one swipe from it's paw could lift you 15 feet in the air, slammed into a Sequoia Tree, and dead before you drop. The Little Guy could feast on you at his leisure. Sequoia Bears usually care a couple of bottles of Tabasco sauce with them. A few of the odder bears prefer soy sauce.

Dude, that’s an interesting thought! If you were a grizzly and could carry one sauce, what would it be? Tabasco would be a good choice, so is soy sauce (they eat sashimi, think about it) but I think I’d go Sriracha. You?

This isn't a Grizzly. It's a Black Bear. Grizzlys are extinct in California. Black Bears in California are Brown or Reddish Brown
