The flaw in Joffrey's thought was that he was "too old". He failed to realize that an old knight is a knight that hasn't lost a battle or fight.

The best part of the scene is the retitscence that the Hound has as he puts his hand on his sword. There are like ~30 (maybe more?) soldiers and knights between the Goldcloaks, Lannister soldiers, Kingsguard, etc. in the room and Sandor still wasn't feeling too excited to end up having to cross swords with a man in his mid 60's. Respect. The subtle 1.5 second shot of him slowly and cautiously touching his sword is better storytelling than the entire last 2 seasons of the show.

I love how the hound didn’t flinch but was getting ready to fight. He was the last line of defense and he even knew how bad this dude was. He almost looked nervous.

One of many great examples of direction/performance decisions that made this show as great as it was! VERY flawed! Especially later seasons, but overall still great imo.

@@drfabulous2804 In Barristan's prime, yes. It would have been a good fight with Barristan winning. As they stood right there; probably not. The Hound is too big, too tough and too strong. At this point in time, Barristan's superior skill wouldn't be enough to close the gap.
