I have used Rekordbox, Serato, Traktor & Virtual DJ. Out of all of them I have to admit Virtual DJ is the one I personally enjoyed using the most. Always remember, you are DJing to please the crowd not other DJ's.

Bro... what u said @2:34 about the pitch change on + or - 10 on VDJ is happening because u didn't click in the key lock. Once clicked on, there's no change in the frequency at all. From my observation, VDJ is far more optional, user friendly, much faster load up and less stressful on the computer. Updating music is never a big task if u move or rename a file in VDJ cuz it's using the same folders u place ur music in. Unlike in Serato, u gotta delete a file from the crates just for a simple rename... added work. I was always given the impression that Serato had some edge over VDJ and as far as i can see, the only edge i would give to Serato is in the echo effects- they tend to carry on and fade off if u hit the switch on and then off, but the moment u take it off in VDJ it stops instead of fading off- and in the colored waveforms when the EQ is tweaked, BUT that's it. There are no other areas that Serato has a win and then there are a lot more that VDJ has that Serato can't match. Beatmatching on live music is definitely less accurate on Serato. The Autoplay feature in Serato SUCKS!!! It has no option to even fade in a song ... in 2018... like WTF. Whole lot of dead silence depending on the tracks listed if u gotta step out for a while. Idk how it's rated as a professional dj software. In VDJ u got 5 options on this 1 feature. Lastly, Serato has built a lil cult for themselves much like Apple, where the fanatics will say this is the best and the other is trash and if by chance ur the person having a problem with the product they swear by, it's not a fault in the product or the company... no, it's ur fault and ur the one doing something wrong..... :/ .... i do agree it don't matter as long as it works it getting the overall job done.

@@dyronfranco9781 I activate Master Tempo and that takes care of the issue 10 up or down. The issue with these DL apps is that you cant know all of the features, so every time you think one wins over the other, someone will come along and point out something you did not know. I love VDJ.

Coming from a guy that was all serato since I started, I prefer Virtual DJ since it can do so much more. It is less laggy and file formats that serato detects corrupted vdj picks up fine

Three features Virtual dj's have i love and that is Capability feature means when a dj is playing virtual gives a list of song from the hard drive that will mix well with the current song, the second feature is a dj can play any type of music files on hard drive ( Internal or external) it can't be done on Serato , serato will only play mp3 some mp4 and WMV. FILES and a dj can choose from different skins . Now Serato has a better pitch ratio had Virtual and it do have a better professional look and a dj can use effects better on Serato than virtual dj's

VIRTUALDJ 8 PRO "INFINITY" comes bundled with the Pioneer DDJ-SZ I just picked one up a few weeks ago. With the pro infinity you can use VD8 on any hardware for life with all the free upgrades. The screens on VDJ are capable of handling 4k resolution. I guess that considered Mickey Mouse. I'm not bashing any software but I have been using VDJ since 2010 and I have not had any major problems I didn't cause. However I had issues with AMD processors and serato. My question for you is...Did you figure out your issue you had or did you just chalk it up to VDJ and left it there? I ask this because I'm in the information technology business and I have to troubleshoot and find root causes.

Hi, thanks Bought a controller with serato, and it crashed on my older computer. So VDJ 8 works flawlessly, also, it allows to have it loaded on a backup computer, thing that serato does not. Also, VDJ allows you to use another soundcard instead the one incorporated in the controller, and even another one for headphones. Serato allows you to only use the one from your controller Sad that VDJ full is a little expensive, but it has by far more option for set up than any other software for DJ Thanks

Have you tried Mixxx? I never see anyone compare/contrast Mixxx (Free, Opensource, Cross Platform). I am just learning how to DJ and budget was my biggest concern, so I bought a Pioneer DDJ - SB2 last year and loaded up Mixxx on my Laptop and Desktop (You need to find a profile file for the SB2 in the Mixx community as it doesn't automatically detect the SB2/SB3 yet) and I am on my way! I don't see what the big fuss is about with vdj and sdj. It reminds me of the Windoze vs MAC debate, when all along Linux has been there in the background for free all along...

Thanks for the review. I've been a serato user since 2005 and have had it freeze maybe twice. I just recently tried Virtual DJ and really liked it. It seems to be much more responsive at finding songs, although the waveforms are a bit small to see. After 35 years of DJ'ing I guess I better get a pair of reading glasses. Thanks again.

In all honesty thier great both of them, it's user preference. I would use vdj alot more but the only reason I use serato is the sounds it produces are more quality and accurate. But vdj at the same time is not robbing you with a million upgrades and it's very user friendly. They are both great

Well a lot of food for thought here. I’m at the crossroads here and having been a dj for around 30yrs and never used a controller, decided to take the plunge to see out my next couple of years before I retire. So not sure if I would suddenly after all this time take to a controller, but decided to buy a modest entry level machine, and it is tuned for Serato. Well I didn’t panic, but thought, I hope virtual do works on this thing because I’ve just got my head around virtual do 2018.well it does, but my curiosity got the better of me so I got Serato light included and decided to download it. Right now as I write this comment, I have just discovered how to load my approx 1 gig of music files. It’s taking a while ha ha. Well having just got comfortable with Vijay 2018, it’s back to learning about Serato. I’m getting to grips with the controller, so it’s all a bit nervy. Anyway I am going to give Serato a go. Then I can choose which I like the best.

I've been using this mickey mouse Virtual DJ since it was call Automix and no controller.. connected it to my Numark mixer using the headphones out on my laptop.. mastered using the keyboard on the laptop.. and I continue to use it to this day. I made 1 payment to get the Pro infinity for $300.00.. I never knew about the $20.00 monthly thing.. I play music video, love it.. computer don't lags unless the computer is getting hot..

I cant say it was the softwares fault entirely but once I made the switch over to serato I never had anymore dropouts while playing.

Hello, and thanks for your thogts. I am just tryng serato, because earlier just play VDJ with mouse at home. , even i am a little shamed to mention that use now a numark mixtrack platinum, and 6 year old laptops. However, here is my experience. Bought VDJ 8, just for the controller, and can make my settings in every way i want. As mixtrack platinum has this lausy RCA audio outputs, and a humm is hearable in loud volume, (also several times mentioned in numark forums), i decided to use another soundcard, and let the mixtrack just as midi controller. It works great in VDJ, absolutely flexible in setting. And also a great sound, and still now, no failures. in my case, there is a Behringer umc 404 hd, or a allen & heath zed sixty 10, and choose the mixtrack for headphones But with the recently renewed serato, i thought to give it a chance. No way to add an external soundcard, it has in the DJ Pro version, a strange behaviour, with very low volume, and the settings gave me no choice to fix it. In lite version, a weird distortion appears, even in practice mode. There is also the crates cuestion, when in VDJ8 you just pick the folder you want, and even it is possible to take a pendrive and play a song that some one took in place. Must say, i really hate to be forced to use something in just a specific way. If i pay it, then i own it, and it must work in the way i want However, must say that my goal is to dj in the way it was done 50 years ago, just mixing songs , not creating anything, or much beatmatching, and so on. May be serato is more accurate for pitgh and loops, but in my sight, VDJ gave me solutions, and serato only troubles Cheers

I have Serato, Traktor, & Virtual DJ and I use each of them for different reasons and purposes. I started djing in the all vinyl era and made the switch to Serato when it was primarily for DVS control. Because of this, Serato is the environment I'm most used to for dance music. Now i use Virtual DJ for it's automix feature during dinner and cocktails, then I switch to Serato when i start using my controller. I recently picked up a couple Traktor controllers that are much more compact so that may be replacing Serato as my wedding performance tool. Everything has its place in the DJ world. Anybody that stay says otherwise is just afraid of technology.

It's more like each different program has some sort of advantage over the other, and if they are used properly, they can work together to create one seamless performance. My clients never even notice when I switch from Virtual DJ to Serato, but they definitely notice the change in the vibe when I'm performing over letting virtual dj mix in the box. But that's exactly what I want during cocktail and dinner time, when I'm coordinating with the clients to insure the best event possible.

software does not make a DJ, what makes a DJ is a DJ using the software to the fullest. BUT saying that I AGREE! I even use DJ pro with online music.by the way, love your page, you guys seem down to earth and seem like good people. I DJ for about 10 years, weddings bars all of it, I am now getting back into it again after my wife had a stroke we need some other kind of income again.wish you the best. AND BEFORE anyone bashes me, I agree to use what software you like, I have the Denon Prime so I really do not need software,. I do plan to get the Pioneer DJ 1000 with the lighting controller, I think it is used with record box, so that is another software. What you have to remember is have a powerful enough computer to do the workload and have it set up right, do not make it your day to day laptop also.Sorry to ramble on ....... lol I remember working with Tapes and Cd and NO software...

Back when I started about 20 years ago, I started with a company called, ABC DJ's and it grew from DJ company to DJ company I sub from so many , I really never had to use my company for everyone keep me going so much and then the bar on the weekends it just got in the way of our marriage so I quit !! Yea so now back at it, funny how that works. I worked at Baltimore MD and sub-county's . lol We work the port of Baltimore on the boat Lady Baltimore, people from NY work come take a tour and we would be a booked for music during the tour on the waterways, it was fun, good time but boat lack power so never the music sounded good as I wanted it. I worked with so many separate companies and was always out working some time 4 shows a day at the bar.I will never be that big again because of my wife and just need to take care of her too but I do want to get out again and make money and see people have a memorable time. Seems like your doing good, I really wish you and your wife the best, I like your wife is involved, mine helped but really never went to shows with me not unless I was doing Sweetheart cup party's, that is where she worked. ..... Why is it DJ's care about what other DJ's are using. I started using PCDJ (13 years ago), about 3 or 4 yrs into it I was DJing at a club and another DJ came to me mad cause I was using PCDJ. I got the DDJ-SB and switch to Serato. My best friend was using VDJ, he told me if you plan on doing video use VDJ if not use what you like. Both are good. I was watching a KZbin video and some guy was mad because you get Serato for just buying a controller. I called VDJ with questions and they were awesome. I now have switched to Rekordbox DJ it is awesome. If another DJ starts crying over your software, have them buy your next one. Remember the crowd don't care and most clubs have room.

Serato sucks way more than Virtual Dj. Virtual has all your folders straight from the computer/external drive. For serato, you have to create a crate and drag the folder to the crate. What's worse is if your songs are in the format artist - song (remixer). The artist and remixer field do not automatically populate. Serato also has mandatory fields that cannot be removed such as # or the blank space before that to sort corrupted or missing files. Another big problem is the wave forms. You are NOT allowed to have waveforms on top one another in serato, the waveforms are always seperate, whether it be vertical or extended, unlike in virtual DJ. The functionality in settings is also not as customizable like in virtual dj. for eg. virtual dj you can set the exact size of each column, in serato you have to drag. Not to mention, virtual dj has way more column options, it only lacks the plays column. I havent even mention the stems seperation virtual dj has. There is way more features in virtual dj over serato. I hate that so many ppl prefer it. it is trash when you match it up against virtual dj.

The only time I had that problem I was using the VDJ crack version but I never had that problem since I bought the vdj8 program but yes is expensive 300, another thing is that some DJs switch from VDJ to serrato is because of pure peer pressure hearing 3rd grade comments like "VDJ is Mickie mouse bla bla bla and my tennis shoes run faster with serato !! 😂😂 But you know kudos to all who use both and are good because you can do bad and good with VDJ and serrato !

The problem is the computer determines the performance of the software. Get SSD. I do love that Serato has pitch n time. Other than that Serato is pretty basic. Traktor has midi send and return. I like using my drum machine when I DJ.

Im a newbie, and I've been trying to choose the right software between serato and vdj, my controller is made for serato but it hasn't proven to be superior over vdj as many say. I have no bias towards either since im new to the scene but the first thing and most important is virtual dj has never crashed or failed to load, while serato lite and pro has either crashed where the waveform disappears or loads and is non responsive or needed several restarts to load. Laptop is brand new with very little music no viruses and plenty of memory. This issue has caused me to not even be able to get into serato. It is connected to my tidal but this should not cause the issues of serato failing to open or opening and being non responsive. I want serato but it doesn't seem to be what's best for me i definitely can't afford to spend 10 to 15 minutes trying to get softwareto load. My advice is don't just listen to others opinions, test them out and see what works for you.

One thing missing with serato its hard to stick a usb or external hard drive while serato is already running and trying to play the tracks on usb or external. And you cant broadcast with serato alone like you can with vdj. But serato has better effects and more easy to scratch.

What’s up brother. Thanks for the info. I have an mc4000 and currently use virtual dj. I tried serato and I couldn’t figure out how to get passed the errors it kept saying my music had. In other words, it wouldn’t allow me to play A LOT of my music. However, I do notice that the gain in serato is much more stronger and clearer than in virtualdj. I’m the newest crew member to funkfellasradio.com and everyone uses serato except myself. Almost feel like I should go to serato but I’d like to know from someone that o don’t know what your take is on the problem I had in serato regarding errors in music. Thanks bro

VDJ has key lock. Turn it on and there will be no pitch changes in the voice when you are mixing.

First, you are wrong about VDJ's pitch control; it is excellent. Second, the crashing and distortion you talk about, is in the controller/soundcard 95% of the time. One thing you are right about, is the lousy VDJ tech support. Both SDJ and VDJ have their own assets and liabilities. Both SDJ and VDJ8 have the main waveforms running dyslexically backward. SDJ is still unstable, and will not function properly at all on some IBM based PCs. I use Itch and VDJ7, because they are both rock solid performers that work seamlessly with my two setups. And both include the option to correct the directional movement of the waveforms, which is important to me.

VDJ Has key lock, try it out. I mix slow jams with songs 2 or 3 times as fast and it woks fine. Your drop outs might come from other things running in the background. I also use Serato but only because it came with my DDJ-SZ, and at first I didn't know that VDJ would work on it too. I bought the DDJ-SZ because my original controller was stolen at a gig.So I decided my new controller would be nice and big to avoid anybody from easing off with it unnoticed. Truthfully, I prefer Virtual DJ, I never had a problem using it, and I think the reason other DJ's bad mouth it. Is because it's easier to use, and more fun than Serato. Nice video. Peace.

Carlos here...... I been used Serato for 2 years.... awesome software, i really like the FX's and because i bought my MCX-8000 I can tell you... I like it......!!!. But...... I have a MC-6000 Denon running Virtual Dj in super good condition and all in generally work great, I don't like the FX's but the way how you can work with the Video is awesome...... to me, much better than Serato, the transitions and the Effects for Video so easy to work. I used the MC-600 as a Back Up and private partys.

Your on point, the real major difference I see between the both, I do use them both. Serato is alot more accurate when it comes to dvs and sound. Vdj works tight on alot of things dvs and controller wise I'm still not getting the hand on scratching with it but with serato bpm is accurate and the sounds that come out of serato is more clear and realistic. Otherwise than that thier both great programs.

DJ TRB it was a basic dj package with access to alot of the features, like skins and effects.

this guy is a paid agent for serato. I been using vdj 4 years my friends serato crashed at the club he switched to vdj ,never crashed, dont have problems with pitch or contacting them. you evidently had something wrong with your computer or are using bad equipment never heard of your story

Well it starts that I am a car guy..and I like TO BE ABLE TO CUSTOMIZE THINGS that I pay for..and vertual dj have been solid.i have a different skin for different sets I do in the summer the daylight skin saved me when there was no shade..and I know saroto is solid as well and vdj is easy to use it's not hardware based as well..it's really flexible..

6:00 Wedding? If you're gonna do a gig THAT IMPORTANT then you go Stand Alone, don't mess around with no software lol. With computer DJing, a million things can go wrong no matter what software you use. If you go stand alone, even with a pair of cheapie CDJ100 you are rock solid. In a club and bars or just a normal party, you can get by with software. Technical issues are not as critical at clubs and bars as weddings

i have both .Right now on the akai amx serato wont play video.On vdj it will and on both i get headphone lag.Ihave a rane 68 at home and before seratos latest update i couldnt make a decent video recording.I have heard that the rane 68 will be ok with vdj 8 so i will give that ,serato dj and my old scratch live all a go.Long term i will need some new gear .Meaning a new mixer ,new software maybe and a new computer.

I actually have both..VDJ and Serato...I've been using both for awhile..btw I have VDJ7 and I only use that on a PC with a Numark Mix Deck controller..I use a Serato on a Mac Book with a NS7 and for now..I've had some issues with Serato and the NS7..kinda the same thing that you experience with VDJ. Now...I like Serato more but Serato kinda nickels and dimes you for the extra's ... like video $99 .. with VDJ..it comes with it...Serato charges for more effects...not sure if VDJ does..but you can find them on the black market. But like you said, it does not matter what software you use....the software does not make the DJ...it's your skills and your knowledge of music..now that's what makes a DJ. I feel like I can rock out with both programs. By the way...I like your DJ Studio..kinda reminds me of mine..same color walls, only difference..I have 2 Samsungs monitors. I also have 2 Numark Speaker monitors. Good Job!

I'm a DJ for 32 years this will be 33 years buy you whatever to get the job done people comes out to hear the music but I use all equipment and I like using Serato I'm old school DJ I play new sometimes it might be your hard drive on the laptop or your memory too much music on there or are you using the wrong kind of laptop not compatible to you

i have both Serato and VDJ 8.. one HUGE difference i found that annoys the hell out of me is "The Sound quality" YES, i find Serato has a crisp sound and good base, while VDJ's sound is very flat and distorted.. don't get me wrong, VDJ has so much to offer and it does way more than serato, but when it comes down to it, it's all about the perfect sound quality.. i just can't use VDJ in a professional way... BTW have you been paying monthly? $300 for VDJ Pro and you own the program for life with free upgrades...

What you saying is Okay because you have the rights to your feelings and or opinion bro. Serato is Virtual Dj. Virtual Dj is very good and use for many function. BUT I rather use Serato for MP3. The ONLY thing I wish Serato Dj can now do is to allow your files to come up like in virtual Dj. That would be awesome. Virtual is very good in doing Video mixing and Video transition plus promotions. Serato video sucks and can't be trusted it can freeze on you. Both has their strength and weakness. In closing I still uses them both, so I will not throw none of them to the side. I use two 17'" Mac-Book Pro. 1 for Serato Dj Mp3 and the other Virtual Dj Pro for Videos and photo slide show on a Pioneer Dj SZ 2. Just making sure I am in the loop.

Well with Virtual DJ there is pitch lock. So you can change your speed without changing pitch. So on that you said you cant. You are wrong. I have been djing for over 25 years. I have used serato, rekordbox, and Trackor. The best one is Virtual DJ. You don't have to download extra sound drivers like you have to do with serato and Trackor. REKORDBOX HAS A EEALLY CHOPPY INTERFACE. VIRTUAL DJ . INSTALL. PLUG IN YOUR GEAR AND START MIXING. NO EXTRA B/S. IT AUTOMATICLLY DETECTS WHAT KIND OF GEAR YOU HAVE. andrew psaros I love vdj. But my biggest reason why I jumped to serato was when I started having problems with vdj during weddings. I cant say its vdjs fault entirely, it could have been my laptop at the time or even my controller but I wanted to eliminate all possibilities so I switched to serato and switched to a mac. But I agree VDJ does have alot more options then serato.

If you are using Serato DJ. This can happen. You can be in a mix then the next second you have NO Sound but your midi control is still operating your serato, Serato has an issue with Windows 10. Windows 10 is always fighting for the default against serato changing your sound card. Serato will change your default soundcard to your midi to be default sound driver. Then it auto mutes your midi soundcard. If that happens you will need to go back into your control panel and then change back your original settings. It's a big hassle. Especially when you are mixing live and your sound I did have all 4 Serato/ Vdj/ Rekordbox/ Trackor. I agree with you. Use what works best with you.

And I love serato selection screen. But still I love the individuality of vdj. I never heard of having a hard time getting help from atomix ppl. Also many videos on help and tips on u tube. Good video thanks. I have said this countless times.... without joining issues with any fan boyism, VJD 8 is the best DJ software out there. Serato and traktor are great. Traktor on the other hand stands out as it tends more towards production and requires more DJ software experience to use. Serato which is "THE INDUSTRY STANDARD" is closed source and doesn't give you the ability to customise to your own taste and add-ons 're expensive. Whereas VDJ has all the features of serato and even more and also allows more customisation plus all add-ons and updates are free forever for pro infinity membership and works with almost all dj hardware. I use serato and vjd 8 currently but only had a little use of traktor in the past. In my opinion, the cold reception that vdj is getting is simply because serato used a better viral and more aggressive marketing strategy to take over the market. And most DJs who still slags VDJ with their impression from older versions (if they have not tried vdj 8) 're not being fair in their judgement hence the software (VJD version 8) has gotten way better if not the best "in my opinion". The real deal is know your software and be creative in making the dance floor go crazy. At the end of the day it's all about your audience. (For back up just be flexible with packing and playing to the gallery by following the crowd of serato, cos some clients look at packaging lol). It's like android vs iOS or Mac vs windows (where Mac is serato and windows VDJ) these 're all great tech.

Bad video ! You begin with some differences between software. There most half or false informations about VDJ. Then you told about two crashes without what the result was. This crashes happens also on serato and this is not your real point to change the software. The point is that you are "pissed off" about some people which told you that with VDJ you are not a real DJ. Now with serato or whatever you are a real DJ ? At the end you try to get the curve in saying "use whatever but use". Guy, you have a problem with yourself and how people have a look on you. This sucks, not VDJ or serato.

i dislike serato for the following reasons the gui is terrible its like they made this to use without a controller no visual display of settings i cannot tell which track is playing till i look at the controller to observe the fader, the wave form is terrible it cannot be zoomed, the beat grid is a waste of time,serato cannot work with AMD == i do not see much options to choose from in the settings it cannot be customized the auto gain does not work well individual sampler volume not available it scratches jus a smudge better better but who gonna scratch all night ppl pay to hear big tune not scratchin at one point i cudn drag and drop from windows i am using intel i5 2.36 12gb memory ddr3 1tb hd program freezes often when aqcuiring bpm info i cudn play 1 track that was a 3hr mix for me to take a break it wud not play ...serato cannot sync like vdj and i have to keep swithcing the head phone as it does not auto load like VDj it slowed me down also i use win explorer to store my play lists i do not want to have to start over my dj career making new playlist as crates lol.... search option is very stupid it did not find my tracks it never started to search the file view was not expandable i started to feel trapped in the program like neo......since i recently started using it i have to mix for 10 hours this is alot of hand work compared to virtual dj im using a pioneer ddj sb3 before with vdj i would use the soundcard on my pc or atleast had the option i payed for all this trbl with serato there is no option for this the developer needs to be dragged out and shot he is trying hard to be like virtual but nvr cud be fk away serato u r hurry comeup in dj world have plenty to learn to satisfy me this is not the last point i jus fedup type the program crashed several times i had to restart machine thank the dj gods i have a bkup system hooked up always the music nvr stops with me until i got serato it did stop it crash this is like comparing VDJ(bedford trucks) to serato KIA trucks lol no history to bk them
