Fun fact: Stefan GP tried to enter the 1998 F1 season after buying the 97 Lolas. He also tried to enter F1 during the mid '90s and early 2000's. The guy never stopped, yet never entered another racing series to build credibility

In other words, the team was ready, had every technical detail necessary to enter the championship, the only thing wrong with them was the Balkan ownership. FIA had no problem letting Ross Brawn do the exact same thing, he bought the Honda program after they announced they won't be racing in 09. And the nonsense about Stefan GP not being able to develop a car for the second season, neither could Brawn! They didn't even have spare parts, for most of the season! Looks like Stefan GP was never welcomed in the first place. God forbid a non British team entering the world of F1

Well i mean you kinda see the guy wanted to skip the entry process entirely, had no sponsor to speak of, didn't annouce any drivers. From what i read couldn't even pay Toyota their bits and bobs and you easily figure why they got shushed out

Two decades now, he tried earlier as well in 1998 when he purchased the 97 Lola car that was used in 1997 F1 season by MasterCard Lola F1 team. Guy just loves F1.

I'm from Serbia, despite following in those days F1 regularly this is the first time hearing about Stefan GP, I know the history about 1939 Belgrade race, but Stefan GP doesn't ring a bell. I must say I laughed when you compared the entries of Andretti racing and Cadillac with Stefan's attempts. Multi-billion dollar corporation or one overconfident Serbian guy. The overconfident Serbian guy does not sound very promising, but it guarantees more fun and crazy ideas. Corporation will try to improve brand recognition, and all other corporate stuff they all do. So thank you for sharing this story, always good to hear something new.

It's simple, do you remember the Brawn GP? Ross Brawn entered that season with no money, no car, no real support... everything was based on promises, he borrowed money to buy Honda's tool room, offices and logistics equipment. Mercedes sold him engines that he didn't have the money for. He didn't have sponsors because no one believed in him... And he won the championship title... Stefanović is not from that Formula 1 society and for that reason alone he failed to enter Formula 1... and the FIA officials - we all know that they are the most ordinary mafia hungry for money and bribery... There is corruption, bribery, money, interests, only sports at least... AKP, you don't have abnormally rich and influential sponsors, you can't deal with sports motoring in the world (period). The big difference is, brown knew how to build the car, how to run a champion team, and how to attract the crew, a serious crew, stefanovic had none of it, so yeah brow could pull it off, amlost nobody else could have, serbian or indian, it doesn't matter one bit. As for nobody likes us, with that attitude nobody ever will, please grow up already.

It's kind of ironic saying that motorsport was seen as "decadent" by the communist regime when they filmed a movie about a race car driver in Yugoslavia called "National Class Category Up to 785 ccm". Sport in general was encouraged in Yugoslavia

Motor racing "not being in line with the communist party" and "motosport seen as elitist and decadent" is just not true, at least in the case of Yugoslavia. It's a false preconception. Yugoslavia was not a member of The Warsaw Pact, it wasn't behind the "iron curtain", and was very open to the (capitalist) West and its cultural influence. Motosport has been pretty popular in the country, but it's just that the F1 - the top tier of motosport, was out of financial reach and hence there were no real ambitions to get involved in such an expensive sport.

Of course it wasn't a member of the Warsaw pact or behind the iron curtain. But read about Tito and communism in Yugoslavia post-war. Especially immediately afterwards once the soviets had booted the Germans out

Unlike most of European countries who needed US and Soviet forces to come and liberate them from Germans, Yugoslav partisan movement freed the whole country by themselves and got rid of Germans and local traitors. Soviets only helped liberating Belgrade and on the Srijem front, rest of the country was liberated by it’s own people.

For the first time since racing in single seaters, he had the chance to drive with a good team - Target Racing, which was able to supply him with everything necessary to fight for the championship. Miloš thus went on to win the championship title convincingly: he had 5 pole positions, 5 wins and 3 second places. Thanks to this result, he gained the right to the “super licence” which is required to race in the FIA Formula 1 championship. *From his website

Im 47yo Serbian dude, watched a lot in younger days F1 without electronics and regulations... pure madness, driver skill and killer instinct to be F1 champ and that was fkn exciting. Thank you for this video, you fkn amazed me with this info about Stefan GP man❤I never heard, read or someone I knew mention very serious possibility of SerbiaF1 team.Im so pissed right now how our Government did not see enourmous national project to back up StefanGP, they had power to negotiate on National level and offer better deal, get Sponsor pool of best companies, covered by Media etc.I can imagine fans, Serbia on World map, German and Finish drivers for Stefan GP, first points in championship, World Media impressed with Serbians etc There is some important things I do not agree however. I wouldn't be surprised if many Haas personnel are ex Manor. Edit: In fact, it's stuff like this that makes TGG my favourite F1 YT channel, along with the zero-hype zero-bs commentary. Ma ovaj Stefanovic je prevarant, bilo je i reci o proizvodnji automobila, mislim faraon da se zvao tako nesto ostao kao crtrz na papiru. Posle je takodje imao kao ideju sa bivsim f1 inzinjerom da uvede neku "open wheal" srpsku formulu. A secam se tog perioda i cele price tad, zanimljivo je da se npr sa USF1 pvezivao Milos Pavlovic, cak se pricalo da je to zavrsena stvar

I remember even today how I was excited when I read they're about to join the grid💓 Their headquarters were in my childhood hood! When I did due diligence I saw there was a tiny chance,if any, to become a serious F1 contender. I didn't know FIA changed the rules 😃😂 Brawn did the SAME. The rest is history...

Stefan GP. Let's try to go over the fence, where it is the lowest without actually thinking it completely through. The way I see it, that "team" was just a inevitable dumbster fire. Only thing, that was legit in that team were the car. Everything else were, like you said in the video, somewhat shady.

Brawn did the exact same thing, literally. Bought a team that left F1, all the intellectual property, all the already developed car and parts, tool shop, everything. Worst yet, they didn't have an engine, but everybody chipped in to help. Everybody chipped in to stop Stefan GP!

Interesting compilation of data from the internet. Not all accurate. And not all the data, for example 30+ drivers applied to drive for SGP. 300 people worked in total in the team. SGP was having 8 trailers and 10 trucks. StefanGP was legit and well funded. Only have not Jean Todt and that was all political game. President of FOCA Martin Witmarsh was inviting Zoran Stefanovic on FOCA meetings. Sure enough, the story was legit and clean. FIA wasn't. Kind regards,..

I do like when some band of brothers just goes out and tries. But F1 might not be the scene to do so. It used to be feasible, when garagistas were still serious contenders. Shadow, Wolf, Hesketh. I loved the idiot dreamers at Hesketh. Jordan! Loose thoughts: 1 How brilliant if Ferrari introduced a junior team called Dino Racing. I'd love that. 2 What would you like better: more races or more teams on the grid? I watch meme collections about F1, and most are funny enough. But it kind of bothers me that ppl think it's funny to lament there not being a race even for one weekend. As if we have a right to expect a race every weekend all year long. Ridiculous and detrimental. But I would like more cars to a race. Up and comers having a go, not just the same old gang again.

Kees and Mieke Tijsterman, married couple in their 50s, reaching 5th overall in a second hand Pajero. In 86 Mits gave them a brand new one out of pride and gratefulness. And then they entered a works team... Fun, gone.

I always thought it was drugs money or Zepter, in both cases enough to fund an F1 team! Since the early 90s Balkan gangs were leading in drugs trafficking. Zepter were paying for Hill at Arrows & it's Serbian owned company. You don't buy a Toyota equipment w/o plenty of cash.

A lot of Croatian quislings have emigrated to South America after WW2 so that can be the origin of the surname in Brazil, as for Russia it could be from Serbs who emigrated there during Ottoman rule of Balkans, a lot of Serbs at the time settled in modern day Ukraine back then Tsarists Russia in region of Donbass, ironically that is were the front lines are now in Russo-Ukrainian war. History is a bitch. I am pretty sure other Slavic nations do not use this word, Russians use something similar sounding Druzba that means Friendship, but diminutive Itch is not something common out side South Slavic nations: Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro.
