Rascia region(Рашка), Kosovo(Косово и Метохија) and Montenegro(Црна Гора и Брда) are actually considered "Old Serbia". The southern borders of "Old Serbia" aren't exactly defined, so Macedonia is perhaps only partially considered "Old Serbia". Their language/dialect is closer to Bulgarian than Serbian, and their Church territory has not been canonically part of Serbian Church(SOC) and the Pec Patriarchy. So, IMO Bosnians(and Herzegovinians) and Montenegrins are Serbs, while Macedonians are more Bulgarians than Serbs. That being said, The guilt for the 1885 war is completely Serbian,and it was a "Stab in the Back", which is something which Serbs ironically accuse Bulgarians for in 1913 and 1915(which it was). However the guilt For the 1913(2nd Balkan War) is on the Bulgarian side. The failed to support Serbia against the Austrian ultimatum to leave would-be Albania, hence Serbia didn't leave most of Macedonia to them as it had obliged under the "Serbo-Bulgarians Friendship Treaty". en.wikisource.org/wiki/Treaty_Of_Friendship_And_Alliance_Between_Bulgaria_And_Serbia

We've been through a lot, and the Bulgarians were very cruel in Northern Greece (Macedonia and Thrace) especially in WW2, but king Constantine was also cruel to the Bulgarians in the 2nd Balkan War and I'm very sorry for that. King Constantine was bad and ineffective for Greece too actually, instead of trying to beat countries in war he did war crimes to force them to surrender. He was also very authoritarian and wouldn't join the Entente to liberate Greeks from Turkey because he wanted to protect his position more than actually doing good for the Greeks. As he ruled with terror in Greece, he exerted the same attitude to Bulgaria in our war and for that I'm very sorry. Now we are actually pretty peaceful and friendly, I'd back Bulgaria in anything they may need and I also have a Bulgarian friend here. Здравей my friend 🇬🇷🤝🇧🇬

@@georgios_5342 I'm not a fan of the Greek royal family, but his decision to keep Greece out of the great war was not something bad. The prime minister was obsessed to please the allies, allowed British troops land in northern Greece, violated Greek neutrality and later his cult personality caused a schism, almost brought a Civil War. If that's not enough, when he got what he wanted and drove Greece in WW1, he mishandled the invasion of Anatolia marking a huge humanitarian crisis regarding the Greek refugees. At this point I need to credit the fact that the Monarchist faction contributed to this equally, but we should also remember that the Anatolian Greek refugees (who sided with the Liberal Party, the prime ministers' faction, since they saw the King responsible for all this) were betrayed when this prime minister wished for Mustafa Kemal to be given the Nobel peace prize. He also signed a lot of treaties with Turkey that were either never implemented or just unjust to the Greek side. As a result, the Liberal Party never won elections again, looking to military coups as an alternative to take over power. Fortunately the 4th of August coup happened later on, finally establishing some prosperity to the exhausted country.
@outerspace73913 жыл бұрын
@@georgios_5342 Regarding the "he was very authoritarian, he didn't want to let Greece join Entente and liberate the Greeks" statement, I've got to say how wrong it is. The "Antivenizelist" faction, as it was apparently called, supported the idea of annexing the territories opportunistically, without the danger of joining either side of the war and losing. And besides, what kind of liberation does the pro-allied faction believes in? Causing a humanitarian crisis and selling the Anatolian Greeks for the sake of "establishing an undisputed border with Turkey"? Do I also have to point out the Prime Minister's idea that "Pontus is way too distant, give it to the Armenians"
@georgios_53423 жыл бұрын
@@outerspace7391 bruh wtf. Everything other than the 4th of August Metaxas regime is skewed. Greece had very much to win from joining the right side in the war, for example Cyprus, Thrace and Anatolia. Turkey was genociding the Greeks is Asia Minor and the king had no problem because all he cared about was his rule, whether that was to be over a small or great Greece was of little importance. What you call "cult of personality" is to others Greek national self determination and freedom. Venizelos policy expanded the rule of Greece to more than twice the size of the earlier state and was going to quadruple it. But, as great leader Metaxas himself said, the only way Greece could have beaten Turkey was to have landed troops in Anatolia during the conflict of the war, which would force Britain and France to actually commit their forces there and not let Greece down. True, Venizelos did many wrong things when it comes to economic policy and later saying Kemal should earn nobel 🤢. But he was indeed the lesser of two evils and the only one at that point that was committed to not let the Megali Idea die. If Greece had joined the war early, it would now own Northern Epirus and Cyprus at least. I'm not saying Venizelos was all good, he made many mistakes, but Constantine was very but and egoistic. Indeed, when the Great Asia Minor Catastrophe was happening, Constantine said "I'd better see them all (the Greek refugees) drown into the sea than to have them come here and force me out of power".

We all watched how Serbia was punished from the side in 1999 and didnt react. Most of the stuff here is impartial and objective but there were still a few hiccups along the way. The San Stefano borders of Bulgaria were very far from an "Giant national-ethnostate". There were people demanding that huge chunks of Serbia and Romania plus the entirety of thrace should also be added. It certainly wasn't an insane ultra-nationalist vision. There was also an astounding lack information regarding the reason why Bulgaria started the second Balkan war. There is a lot more to it than saying that "Bulgaria wasn't satisfied with the negotiated borders" Another minor inaccuracy can be found in the way that Bulgaria's attitude towards Serbia was presented. The exact monument shown in the video was not a symbol of the "Serbian backstabbing and aggression" but of a unneeded brotherly war caused by their king which is also the attitude that was suggested we should have. The part about Serbia's help during the siege of Edirne was overemphasized, Bulgarian forces did more than the majority of the fighting there Before entering the central powers Bulgaria was wooed by both them and the Entente. The offer made by the allies would have satisfied the so called "ultra nationalist vision" of the San Stefano borders. The total Bulgarian land mass would have been comparable to it. Bulgaria's entry into the Axis wasn't so much of a "desperate last attempt to achieve greater Bulgaria" but the result of overwhelming pressure from Germany. Bulgaria would certainly have been invaded by the axis and a much more brutal fascist regime would have deported all of Bulgaria's jews and terrorized the newly annexed territories with a stronger fist than what actually happened There should have been a lot more said about the Communist regime post WW2 being pretty much forced to accept pro-Yugoslavian vision regarding the Macedonian question. Overall, the proposed solution at the end was exactly what both of our nations should be striving towards

Translation: The bloody fight ceased, the night darkness approached. Fallen Bulgarian in the trenches lies beside the Serb. Killed each-other, bullet retaliated bayonette. Spirits fading. Soon both will leave this world. - Brother - the Serb groaned - do I feel I know you? - It's me, Yovo, glad to meet you, God intertwined our paths again. I feel sorry for you, brother, you have little kids. - Thank you, brother... My memory is dim... My mother lights a candle for your wellbeing often... - Tahank you, Yovo, there's no need you repayed me better!... We killed each-other like dogs may God forgive us. - Brother! - Yovo, I am dying... Fire, thirst! Oh, I'm burning! - Here, some water in my flask, drink some, brother, I am dying too. - Thank you, Yovo... and forgive me, I am finished!... @@dannzelenin1415 You're very wrong- Balkan nations have very similar cultures and traditions. They were all influenced by the byzantine and then ottoman empires, who left an imprint on them. Look at the food, traditional music, and dances, and festivals we have, they're all very similar. Even the languages have some similarities. They are in different language families, yes, but from coexisting for centuries, they have been getting closer and closer. Look up the "balkan sprachbund", if you wanna learn more about that. Also, not to mention that pretty much all places in the balkans were very multi-ethnic. There never were clear borders between the different ethnicites and there were a lot of areas where many different ethnicities lived together. They only really became seperated through violent ethnic cleansing and "population exchanges" after the nation states were created. Examples include macedonia, thrace, kosovo, etc.

lewis snow I disagree. Bulgarian culture tho was inspired by byzantine was basically self made. With our own unique alphabet, church language, titles, names and etc. Everyone has direct inspiration from Roman Empire ofc. This dosnt mean anything. Well, sums up Greek-Bulgarian relations pretty well too actually. Здравейте friends 🇬🇷🤝🇧🇬

Check your facts before you make the video 1. serbia and Bulgaria had an agreement before the war and Serbians were not supposed to go south of a certain predetermined line before the war, north of that line there was a contested zone that the tzar or Russia was supposed to determine border. the Serbians broke the agreement, the whole 100000 soldiers was just an excuse, they were greedy for more land In your video you don't even mention aegean Macedonia, which had Bulgarians on it and Bulgarians were supposed to liberate them but Greeks got there first(Serbia-Bulgaria video I guess) 2. people in Macedonia were Bulgarians and wanted to join Bulgaria, they might have been some greeks and some Albanians but there was like 90% Bulgarians Serbians 1% maybe, serbs and greeks had no right to claim that territory 3. you make it look like Bulgaria did the backstabbing when Bulgaria got backstabbed. they had the most numerous and most militarized army and suffered the biggest losses, pretty much beat the turks themselves and got cheated. the Bulgarians did not backstab Serbia, they went to liberate their people in the 2nd balkan wars 4. the greeks and Serbians got an agreement to go against the Bulgarians just to steal the land and the people on it(many of which who rejected were exiled), also they got together with the turks(which they just fought) and Romanians just to make sure Bulgaria will lose- Second Balkan war 5. tito did not promote the south slavic state he ruined it, that was the reason he got a fall out with Stalin 6. Tito did not crate the identity(he had no choice not to give them their state, since everyone else got a state), the identity was created before, he is responsible of BUGAROFOBIJA, just so Macedonians forget their Bulgarian roots

I have for a long time browsed the internet and KZbin in particular, desperately trying to find an objective overview of this very complex relationship that we've had. And, voila! What a masterpiece! For any self-conscious Bulgarian, except the newly formed 5th colony of the global financial interests, Macedonia has always been an integral part of Bulgarian history. And while Serbian interference in Macedonia during the wars is to be blamed somewhat, it is indeed a franction of the puzzle. The greater picture shows clearly, to those able to raise high enough to see it, that foreign geopolitical interest has been in the core of our divisions. And the only way out of this swamp of mediocrity, yet worse... the slow erasing of the peoples on the Balkans is to oppose these powers. Oppose them via unification and understanding of our common fundamental interests. I have dreamt to hear a plead for unification, and can't thank you enough for making it. Let's hope more people fall into it! And now in Serbian (rather poor): Veliki pozdrav za ovo sto radis, brate! Nadam se sto vise ljudi slusaju i razumeju! Поздрави от България!

I honestly would love to see the two become really close again, and show off how cool they are to all those naysayers like Austria, America, Germany, Russia, etc. it’s like a Romeo and Juliet but in country form and a lot of bickering between the two. Honestly, Serbia and bulgarias relations kinda stem from favorite child syndrome. When Russia freed the Balkans, both Bulgaria and Serbia were tied to Russia, yet with the Austrians becoming more of an issue, and the idea of a Slavic superstate adapted mainly by the Serbians, Bulgaria slowly drifted out of the picture for Russia, as Bulgaria kind of just went off and did its own thing, gaining territories it wanted instead of what Russia wanted, making a Balkan Slavic superstate. It’s kind of sad to see how Bulgarians were treated from 1910-1950 as they were punished for simply wanting territories they thought were tied to them, the exact same thing Serbia did. Except Serbia got no neuielly sur suien , Bulgaria did. I’m incredibly proud of the Bulgarian people, still with all these setbacks they’ve faced, they were able to stand up to German horrors aswell not become a hate driven state like how Germany became, instead, they focused on striving for their people, and that is something I can deeply respect. Bulgaria will always have my respect as the most misunderstood Balkan nation.

Interesting how you showing map that shows Macedonia populated by ''both serbs and Bulgarians'' when large part of east ''serbian'' territories had Bulgarian population.
@stefansavatovic48763 жыл бұрын
It's also interesting how he failed to mention that the bulgarians claim their descent from the turkic bulgars that came to the present day bulgaria from the Volga region. Also: there was a large amount of people that identified as Serbs in the areas around Vidin and Sofia and across the western bulgaria before WW1. The people that lived in the present day bulgaria were Slavic people that were not yet mixed with the turkic bulgars. The same people lived in present day Serbia as well. The difference being that a part of the population in the present day bulgaria mixed with the turkic bulgars while in Serbia that was not the case. The Slavic people that lived in the present day Serbia and eastern Bosnia created their own state while the Slavic people in present day bulgaria stayed under the turkic bulgar rule. That means that all the people in bulgaria that did not mix with the turkic bulgar conquerors are genetically Serbs speaking the bulgarian language. That also means that the entirety of bulgaria should be a part of Serbia since the turkic bulgars were a small part of the population and only a very small percentage of people are of turkic bulgar descent. So, you're either descendants of the turkic bulgars and should be driven out of Europe; or you're descendants of the Slavic people that inhabited present day bulgaria before the turkic bulgars came, which means that the only difference between Serbs and bulgarians is a slightly different language. If that is the case, there is no reason to fight, we can unite under one country. PS: I intentionally wrote "bulgaria" and "bulgars" with small letters because you wrote Serbs with small letters as well. I look forward to your reply.

The list is countless but for example Tikveš uprising in 1913? And why didn't you mention the thousand refugees fleeing from Serbian rule and coming to Bulgaria after the balkan wars and WW1? And what about the Bloody Christmas in 1945, where serbs yet again tried to exterminate everything bulgarian thats left? The fact that the people of the region joined our army and after the war they came to us shows who is right and who isn't. Read the book Black Hand Over Europe to see french perspective after WW1. Btw many of those churches and monasteries were originally Bulgarian, since we had the region long before you and for much longer time. Skopie was our capitol (972-992) Prespa (992-997) Ohrid (997-1016) and Bitola (1016-1018) and many of the churches were build during Tsar Samuel. The Serbs tried to erase the presence of the Bulgarians in Macedonia, so they crossed out their names from the graves and rewrote the frescoes in the churches, changed the language and the images.

@@davor9217 There is tons of evidence of what the Serbs did in Macedonia, but unfortunately I am not qualified enough to talk about all of it. Bulgaria fought 3 wars for the them, not for territory like the Serbs. @@raisetheblack6991 Bulgaria didn’t fight for the people here … they also fought for territory. They did a lot of atrocities. During the Second Balkan War Locals were forced to pick a side (Serbs or Bulgarians) and if for example a Village was aligned towards the Serbs, the locals would get massacred and the village burned. That’s so naive of you to think they fought because they cared about the people … The people in the Vardar part of Macedonia got liberated from the Turks during the First Balkan War and mostly due to the Serb chetniks while the Bulgarian ones had to fight on a different front on the south. Because of that after the end of the war this part was given to Serbia, and Bulgarians not satisfied with that started the second war. As i previously stated the locals are of mixed Bulgarian/Serbian ancestry here. Both Serbs and Bulgarians had kingdoms here and even the royal families intermarried. I for example know that i have reltives in both countries

Dude you mix up things quite a lot! I stopped at 3:17 - just couldn't watch anymore. Look - just a (I hope you get it that way) constructive criticism. First of all you start from the time of 19th century or so. You say both brotherly nations laid claim on Macedonia by jumping back in time when the Ottomans came (wtf?! - why not follow the timeline in the first place if you want to be objective?). You miss to say that the language of these so called Macedonians is grammatically and structurally a Bulgarian one. Both are analytic languages with no cases! It is in fact one language unique among the Slavic family of languages which has no cases. Yes you had the land of Macedonia during the short time of the period of Dusan and the Serbian Empire (Tsardom) at the time but we had two tsardoms for much longer time than yours and with this land being essential part of our tsardoms which is long before your claims on that land! It was the heartland of the late First Bulgarian Empire and where the last of the Bulgarian resistance was suppressed by the Byzantines at the end of the First Bulgarian Tsardom. Let me point out the following - the quarrels we both nations have, they were made up in relatively recent history. Back in time there no division between the two nations. After the battle of Velbuzd (Велбъжд) today Kyustendil, where Serbian Empire won, the Byzantines wrote that the captured Bulgarians could freely talk with their captives since they were same people. Regarding this nozh u ledga thing your less smart compatriots tend to repeat like idiots all the time. We have been backstabbed by you as well and not once! During the Second Balkan war you and the greeks had separate secret contract that you will divide Macedonia between you both - this was not what all the Balkan nations agreed upon before the war! Our big mistake was that we didn't send almost any forces in this part of the Balkans which led to you and the greeks occupying all of it! Now - our moron Tsar Ferdinand, instead of trying to solve the problem with diplomacy, he was so high because of the victories of our army against the Turks (the biggest by far part of the Turkish forces were engaged against us) that he decided let's attack our allies since they cheated on us. Utterly stupid move. But again - isn't that secret contract backstabbing from your side? There was one Serb down in comments who said that - there were backstabbings from both sides. I agree and I thank him for that comment. I know our armies did some horrific things against other Balkan nations at some points in history - this is awful and I'm not proud of that! Unfortunately in all our nations - Bulgarians, Serbs, Greeks, Croats, Romanians, Turks - the majority of our populations are idiots. It's up to the more intelligent people from these nations to draw the map for future cooperation and extinguish the hate since it doesn't bring anything good. I don't hate Serbs and I regularly listen to old Serbian music (not this crap from recent years) being from NorthWest Bulgaria. For me, our folklore music is sacred and it's the best music of Earth, but yours comes second. To both Bulgarians and Serbs - if we continue to quarrel, we will perish. Once we conquered the Balkans from the Roman Empire - today we are dying nations with gypsies, turks, albanians multiplying like rabbits within our borders. Let's be smart and remember who we were and who we are! Respect to my South Slavic brothers. Wake up!

I like your avatar. Which flag is it? I see it also on the videos of Canov Napred i Nagore. Yes, a pan Slavic orthodox union on the Balkans sounds great. It would be great if Macedonians and Bulgarians can settle their differences. It's really a very sad thing, especially with regard to our history. In 1912 many young men from Macedonia went to die at the gates of Carigrad for the freedom of Bulgaria. It's sad that so many young men from Macedonia have negative attitude towards Bulgaria. By the way, you're very wrong about Serbs. They don't hate Bulgarians. It's us, Macedonians, unfortunately, that have negative feelings, although it changes slowly. I've been many times in Serbia and have a lot of connections there. Serbs have other problems, like Kosovo i Metohija, and still some disputes with Croatia. Austria-Hungary's guilt for the "Balkan gunpowder keg" is considerable, but let's not forget that other Great Powers were involved as well, most notably Russia and to a lesser extent Great Britain. After all, it was Russia which signed the Reichstadt Agreement and the Budapest Convention with Austria-Hungary (and the London agreement with Great Britain), aiming to prevent the formation of a strong state on the Balkans, especially a Slavic one. And if anyone points at San Stefano - that was a preliminary treaty and the Russians knew very well that it won't hold. All of the Great Powers, and especially those three, messed with the Balkans, just like they messed with other parts of the world which are also still very much messed up.

This is more than poorly researched .. You state that the macedonian borders where not shaped or agreed on which is completely incorrect with just a simple google search you can find this to be true . Serbia and greece signed secret treaty on the 1st of june 1913 to divide the territorial gains of the war against ottoman empire between themselves , and forcefully occupied the questioned territories , by the time bulgarian troops where mostly in thrace and could hardly reaxh these places in time and when conflict was inevetable romania and ottoman empire joined the war against bulgaria. You state that Bulgaria did not hold on to their numerical soldier contribution on the west . Bulgaria entered that war with about 600000 soldiers and did contribute soldiers to the west with the interstate documents stating anywhere between 30 and 70 thousand soldiers. The statement you made for the san-stefano treaty you made for this "great bulgaria" to be planned as satelite state is not true since such thing is not mentioned anywhere in the treaty . Interesting fact serbia attacked the newly united pricipality of bulgaria because they couldnt handle the austro hungarian empire and the only expansionistic possibility for serbia was that.

@petartoshkov20763 жыл бұрын
Well, what I like is that you acknowledge that the Macedonian nation was created artificially by SFR Yugoslavia. But I have some objections in a few points. The Russians weren't just about to gift us these lands willy-nilly in the Treaty of San Stefano. They made it on purpose so it must be seen as a "The Russians were stripped of their spoils of victory by the vile western powers but they wanted to give us a huge state" and to awake Russophilia in the Bulgarian population which actually succeeds even to this day. Otherwise there was a Constantinople Conference in 1877 before the war. In this Conference the Great Powers pushed the Ottomans to grant Christian minorities basic autonomy and rights. What the Ottomans did was to draft a constitution which kinda was granting some rights but was not really enough comparing what they have done to the Bosnian and Bulgarian Revolts in 1875 and 1876. So the end result of the conference was that Britain and France withdrew diplomatic and military support from the Ottoman Empire on the condition that the Fate of these Ottoman lands will be decided on an international conference. Why would they draft the Treaty of San Stefano if they already agreed to divide the Ottoman Balkans in an international conference? The Treaty of London of 1913 is contrivercial in Bulgarian history as this was an act of which Bulgarian politicians betrayed the Macedonian Bulgarians by drafting up a treaty which divided them. By popular history the Second Balkan War began because "Bulgaria wasn't happy with the territorial advancements so it declared war". In reality it was a bit chaotic. The Armed Forces acted on their own despite orders from the government as they entered Serbia and Greece lead by revanchist and irredentist ideals. Serbia and Greece officially declared war on Bulgaria and thus the Second Balkan War began. Romania entered the war because the city of Silistra wasn't enough for them and the Ottoman Empire really wanted to re-adjust its Western border beyond the Midia-Enos line. Romanians entered Sofia and the war was over. Although the country saved its jews, they were still deported from the new territories as the Wehrmacht was still kind of in charge of them and ordered the transportation of jews to Auschwitz, Treblinka and other unpleasant places. It was Bulgarian soldiers who put the jews on the trains to death

The people that lived in the present day Bulgaria were Slavic people that were not yet mixed with the turkic Bulgars. The same people lived in present day Serbia as well. The difference being that a part of the population in the present day Bulgaria mixed with the turkic Bulgars when they invaded present day Bulgaria while in Serbia that was not the case. Since only a small percentage of people in Bulgaria are of the turkic Bulgar descent that means that the vast majority of people in Bulgaria are descendants of the Slavic people that inhabited the area before the turkic Bulgars came. Those Slavic people are the same people that inhabited modern day Serbia. That means that Serbs and Bulgarians are essentially the same people speaking slightly different languages. So, if you claim that Bulgarians are of turkic Bulgar descent, then i have no argument and we can continue fighting every 30-40 years until one gets destroyed. Or, if you claim that Bulgarians are of Slavic descent, then we're the same people and there's no reason to fight. We can unite under one country. That way there would be no more teritorial disputes between Serbs and Bulgarians and both peoples would have one less enemy to worry about.

As for Macedonia, it's Bulgarian. I know many Macedonians, Serbs and Greeks don't want to hear it, but it's true. It's historically provable and personally, my maternal grandmother's family are from Macedonia. I think the compromise we can do now is somehow we help you get back Kosovo and Montenegro and we get Macedonia. I think it's fair, considering that you get access to the sea. Also I've come to the idea of a Balkan federation as well. I think that Greece and Romania should be a part of it as well, considering that Romania is the biggest Balkan nation both teritorially and populations wise and Greece has a lot of disputes with Turkey and a good location. We all know that we were fighting over insignificant details in the XIII-th and XIV-th century and we paid for it dearly. The Balkan geopolitical situation right now is quite similar if you think about it. You have a strong Turkey that has plans for conquering Balkan teritories in Anatolia and a bunch of weakened and fragmented countries on the Balkans. We can't effectively counterbalance Turkey's power as we are. P.S. We didn't join Hitler out of desperation. True the territories offered by the Germans were one of the reasons, but tzar Boris stalled, until Hitler issues an ultimatum "Either we go through Bulgaria as allies or as enemies". His armies were at the Danube. At that point neutrality was not possible anymore.

Not bad, but not entirely accurate video. Macedonia was part of the first and second Bulgarian kingdoms. It was under Serbian control for relatively short period of time, less than two centuries. But even then, the majority of the population had Bulgarian ethnicity - spoke the Bulgarian language, as there were not such things as nations in the medieval ages. And you miss entirely that point. There were enough sources that prove, the majority of the population of Macedonia were still Bulgarians in XIX century. True Serbians were second major ethnic group, specially in the northern part of Macedonia, were they were even majority in some areas, but in general they were minority as Greeks, Albanians, Turks and etc. So Serbia fought for the land, Bulgaria fought for the land and the people. In the WWI the Bulgarian army was greeted as liberator in most of the Macedonian towns and villages. True in the WWII the Bulgarian army did a lot of atrocities in Macedonia and Serbia, but that was not ethnic based violence, as the Bulgarian army and police did the same, even worse in Bulgaria. There was not even idea for Macedonian nation up to the Balkan wars. Most Macedonians self-determined as Bulgarians up to 1950s. Initially the idea for Macedonian nation was born, after the losses of the Balkan wars, and specially of WWI. Many people in Macedonia realized that the unification with Bulgaria is "causa perduta". Others felt betrayed as the authorities in Sofia did not make enough to fulfill the goal for unification, did not really support the pro-Bulgarian movements in Macedonia, and even used many Macedonian leaders in selfish ways, related to internal political agendas in Bulgaria. All that people came to the idea, that as they cannot, or even do not want anymore to unite with Bulgaria, they can create a new nation. That idea was manipulated and cunningly replaced by the Serbian communists after WWII. They created a new "Macedonian language" where most Bulgarian words were replaced with Serbian. And they literally built a new pro-Serbian Macedonian nation, almost from scratch. Initially that was supported by the Bulgarian communists. Most of the population of Eastern Macedonia was even forced to change their names to "Macedonian" (Serbian). The people who opposed were detained in concentration camps - entire families. So the idea was in the new big Balkan Union, led by Serbia, to exist big Macedonia. Then Stalin and Tito split, and the Bulgarians in southwest took back their birth names. But the Macedonian nation was born in Yugoslavia. Nowdays Bulgaria has not any territorial or national claims over modern Macedonia. What we want is Macedonia to accept the historical facts, and to give up any claims over the territory, the history and the language of Bulgaria.

North part of Macedonia like skoplje was always part of serbia tough.
@nick31753 жыл бұрын
@@tomgu2285 This is not true. It was part of Bulgarian kingdom up to the middle of XIII century. Then it was part of Serbian kingdom, then part of independent kingdom. From the end of XIV century to 1912 Skopje was part of the Ottoman empire. Then, up to 1915, it was in Serbia. Then, up to 1918 it was in Bulgaria. Then, up to 1941 it was again in Serbia. And again, up to 1945 was in Bulgaria. And the majority of the population was Bulgarian up to the mid of XX century. There are records from the Ottoman empire, and there the population is pointed as Bulgarian. Then after the WWI French occupation force made research, as the initial agreement was borders to be drawn according to the population. Still the majority was Bulgarian, but as Bulgaria lost the war, the final agreement of the winners gave Macedonia to Serbia. There were some areas with majority of Serbian population like the area around Kumanovo. Specially in Skopje the majority of the population was Turkish up to 1912. Bulgarians were the second biggest group, but close to the Serbians.

I think that if Serbia took its claws off of Macedonia, Bulgaria might not have had a reason to recognize Kosovo. If only Serbia can open and release their UDBA documents regarding North Macedonia, maybe we can be friends and move on from this. Also, it is undeniable that 70-80% of the population of Macedonia was Bulgarians when Serbia occupied it... and thousands of Macedonian Bulgarians fled from Macedonia to save themselves from Serbian attrocities. My ancestors are some of those. The language of North Macedonia is over 90% entirely based on the Bulgarian language, with the same cases and structure, it has always been much different than Serbian, even after it was Serbified in 1945. If we want to talk about "Great Serbia" during the rule of Tsar Dushan. We can look at the facts, the fact is he was 3/4 Bulgarian royal lineage, and he was married to a Bulgarian princess Helena. This is the only reason he was able to create a powerful Serbian Empire, which basically just collapsed the entire Balkan region, weakening it, lasting for only 10-15 years... and then the Ottomans swoop in to take the spoils. Bulgarian Empires have lasted for 3-4 centuries between the first and second. Serbia has been a vassal state of Bulgaria and Byzantines for a majority of its existence. Not saying this to be provocative, I am only saying it to give some perspective. Ohrid was the second capital of the First Bulgarian empire, well before Serbia occupied Macedonia and established its own capital briefly. Ohrid is the crowning jewel of Bulgarian Culture, it is the throne of Tsar Samuil - it is rightfully Bulgarian in all aspects. As for North Macedonia today in 2021, Bulgaria has no aspirations to take over territories, we also can't even if we wanted to... The only thing we want is an objective view of North Macedonian history, and a revision of their history books which was heavily influenced by Serbian/Titoist/Yugoslav propaganda and anti-Bulgarian rhetoric. Once, they remove all the propaganda, falsifications, and hatred from their history, Bulgaria and North Macedonia have no problems. The problem with North Macedonia and Bulgaria is identical to NM and Greece... it is about history and culture + language.

As a Bulgarian, who's having both Bulgarian and Serbian relatives living in Serbia, I can't imagine be enemies with them, because we have so much in common that the animosity among some of us about history should be finally over... I can assure you that less than 5℅ of all Bulgarian people are having negative vibes, I know it's the same in Serbia, though maybe some Eastern Serbs are hating us bcs of our militaries there... If there are any Eastern Serbs (Nis, Pirot, Zajecar, Vranje etc.) hope you don't hate us, bcs we are sorry about our actions... Moramo da se poštujemo i podrzavamo, nego svadjamo stalno... Pozdrav kod svih srba! :)

As a Serb living in the north of Serbia I would agree that there is no significant tensions and that most people have friendly views towards Bulgarians. But with Bulgaria indiscriminate support and siding with the west there is not much room for state to state cooperation. Bulgaria was first country to recognize Bosnia, and sided against Serbia in every geopolitical crossroad we had, Bulgaria also recognizes and supports Kosovo independence. There were problems with South Stream or the latest Bulgarian ban for Russian foreign minister to visit Serbia. I believe and I hope that those aren't majority's views in Bulgaria but Bulgarian state showed very little sovereignty in it's foreign policy and as long as Bulgaria is that way our mutual interests and potential for cooperation won't be fulfilled.

@@draganmarkovic491 You realise that all of your Ex-Yugoslav members, including your bros the Montenegrins recognise Kosovo too, right? Also no offence but how come Kosovo is Serbian if 9/10 people there are Albanians? Sure I see you still hate the Albanians but remember what you did when you took Macedonia from us. You literally had to call the Greeks and Romanians to help you and you successfully gained it and made it Anti-Bulgarian like because you were backstabbers as usual. Also Bulgaria recognised North Macedonia's independence first when you were "busy" with the Bosniaks. But it is surprising how to this day you are still Lil Russia's puppet.
