Rennae Stubbs seems VERY invested in Serena’s game. I wish they had started this partnership sooner.

Ugh Exactly. She should have ditched Patrick years ago!!

Every practice video people keep commenting on the same thing : her movement. At this age isn't it obvious that her movement will never be what it was even 2 years ago? Come on. I get that her greatness has set an unrealistic standard for fans to the point where fans demand the impossible. Also, Her practice has always been the same all through her career. She doesn't move, she herself has said she hates practice. At this point, why look for negatives or things to criticise . It's her last dance and if you are a fan, just rest and enjoy the last show.

I think Serena has always been much more casual in her practices when it comes to moving. I grew up playing years of junior tennis and I lived and trained at Bolletieri Academy and I WISH I knew then what I know now, not every practice has to be intense, sometimes you just want to work on your feel, Serena knows when it’s match time, she will use her pure will and determination to chase every ball she can. I think casual tennis fans are wayyyy to critical of some of these practice sessions. The level she showed 2020 US Open Serena would have made for a quite a fun at this year’s open. So she was not far off from that fitness level in my opinion, she did the best she could with the limited time she had to prepare. She is still the GOAT. I always dreamed a Williams sister winning a slam at age 40 would be an amazing feet. If anyone was going to do it, it was Serena. Regardless she evolves away as a legend and a hero❤

She and Venus fought to get out of the slums of Compton and they both fought to be on top for 20 years I understand it's hard to leave the beautiful game but there is a time when the pros have to hang up the racquet as a professional player because of family , age and physically cant hold all that pressure on his or her into her 40s. she can always coach or be an academy owner or become a sponsor of tournaments tennis channel commentary. I know she has interests in businesses. She won't be retired and bored. Thank you for all you have done for the sport of tennis. Now it's time for the NexGen to continue and play the beautiful game.

I wish she played with another top player from the WTA today, but Jarmere is great, as well. Nice practice

Don't want to stir up concern but does Serena look injured? Her right ankle / achilles looks heavily taped, she isn't jumping when serving, and seemed to stop running and feel her ankle at 1:17. Also, the image of her looking frustrated and disheartened after a practice session adds to my doubts. I guess we'll see today! Lmk what you think :)

I mostly don’t get nervous for her first rounds until 2nd week. But I’m feeling anxious about her first match couple with her retiring. May God be with her.

She should pratice more for the drop shot. If I were her opponent, I would make a lot of drop shots to win this match. Her footwork is obviously her biggest weakness currently.
@serveoutwide2 жыл бұрын
That sounds so simple, but it’s wrong. Serena’s movement is fine when moving front or back. The problem is her lateral movement, which is going from side to side. She can run up to drop shots and can cover the net well. Moving from left to right is what’s harder.
@ayoayo77302 жыл бұрын
@@serveoutwide why is it so… she can get to dropshots quickly but can’t seem to get back on court in time after chasing a ball sideways

@@ayoayo7730because moving laterally and moving forward and backwards are two different movements, to put it simply

0:22 is what stands out to me and likely the main reason she's decided to retire. She can still serve/return really well, but the lateral movement is pretty much gone.
@derezzedqb2 жыл бұрын
Exactly the timestamp I was going to use. Such an essential part of her game as her opponents often would try counter her through this, she can no longer defend (at least to her standards).

She’s 40. Eventually there does come a time when you just can’t move at the highest level anymore. She’s practicing hard. Give her a break.

She's retiring after the USO, so everything between then and her announcement has been a last appearance at the given event. What kind of question is this?

@Dark0blivion - she actually insinuated she’s not sure- never say never. Regarding Australian open. So Maria Muller has a point.
