Serena was too awesome prior to having her cutie pie. She’s brought her weight down recently, but not enough to compensate for her age. I know she has another 1 or 2 Grand Slams in her. I’m convinced that Serena and Barty are the two smartest players in tennis. Barty doesn’t give her opponents time to engage in back and forth volley, which is smart. But Serena still can win, but only with a couple of adjustments! Serena told Barty she was too good to retire, now Serena has to take her own advice!

@@marjorjorietillman856 You're delusional. Have you not watched her since she came back? A GS is a long haul. I was actually surprised she made 3 finals after the baby. The problem is she got spanked in those 3 finals. Not even close. Just like Novak at the US Open last year the legs just don't have it or the back is sore or the shoulder hurts. Age is the great equalizer. For one match she could beat anyone but to put together 7 matches over 2 weeks, asking a lot.

Her chance to get the #24 is probably low. But it doesn't matter. Serena is already the GOAT, no matter what. It will take decades to see another woman who could replicate just 75% of her achievements, let alone eclipse her. Winning a GS is very difficult, even in "turbulence" era like now, when anybody could emerge as a GS champion like lottery, only to fade away weeks later, succumbing to much lower-ranked players in Tier 1 tournaments. Serena has tasted various eras when excellent players were still around: Steffi, Venus, Henin, Sharapova, Hingis, Clijsters, Davenport, Capriati, etc. They are all multiple GS titlists. The competition was extremely tight back then, but she still managed to shine above everyone. She also still conquers the youngsters: Kvitova, Halep, Barty, Osaka, etc. Only age could eventually stop her. But her legacy and legendary status is already safely written in the history of tennis forever.

2014,15,16 Was Serena's window to break all records . She only won the US open in 2014 and that was her last she only won Wimbledon in 2016 despite having reached 2 other finals. Her 2016 Australian open was her best tournament ever but she switched off in the Finals and lost to Kerber. I guess 2015 after that missed calendar slam is the year when her mental toughness started declining and now the physical aspect has given in as well. Anyway she is still the Goat regardless.
@DeepSeas..3 жыл бұрын
All her mental struggles are because she’s been chasing history the moment she won that 2013 USO. The only time that she wasn’t a tournament away from matching any record was when she earned 18 grand slams, and the pressure was taken off for a while, and she went on to win the next three. Her biggest issue is that she plays the history books instead of her opponents, and it causes horrible performances like she had in all those recent slam finals. When the pressure is off, she beats the top players fairly easily.
@moxide3 жыл бұрын
@@DeepSeas.. Yah i agree with your paragraph but the last line is no longer true anymore not just because of her age but these girls that she meets now hve belief and they have raised their game . I just watched Wimbledon finals and i realize that Serena's path would hve been very complicated if she had not pulled out with an injury. Kerber could hve beaten her in the 3rd or Coco could hve beaten her in the 4th round and she was definitely going to lose to Barty in the Semis. I know this because she is terrible in handling slices and Barty is a better server/slicer compared to Vinci who sliced her way into the 2015 US Open finals denying Serena her Calendar Slam opportunity.
@DeepSeas..3 жыл бұрын
@@moxide I disagree. Kerber didn’t play that well in the tournament, and Coco isn’t ready yet for the biggest stages. Barty was hot and cold all tournament and honestly is lucky she played Pliskova in the final because Pliskova choked. None of these players are even remotely as good as Serena on grass. And Serena literally beat Barty in her first major after pregnancy at the French Open in 2018, which Barty won the next year. Barty’s slices are a liability, not a strength because she uses them as a crutch. Using the Vinci match as evidence that Serena can’t handle slices, when Vinci had never take a set off Serena before that match is silly. Serena lost because she was literally chasing multiple of the greatest records in tennis, not because she can’t handle slices. Serena grew up in a time when players actually had variety, she isn’t bothered by it. People really need to stop comparing Serena to inferior players and acting like the best player on grass on the tour is somehow an underdog to the like of Coco Gauff and Kerber. The only players who are truly favorites against Serena are Osaka on hard court and Muguruza on clay. There’s a reason why Serena was still the favorite for the tournament before it started. I’m proud of Barty though because she’s injured and clearly wasn’t playing her best tennis but she just a managed to hold on.

It has taken Serena longer to get 23 Slams. Guess what? Graf was busier and played a lot more tennis to win 22 Slams. It isn't always about how long a player has been in the WTA. It's mostly about how much (or less) tennis played. Graf in her prime struggled badly to contain Monica Seles' power regarded by many to be the strongest at the time, until Serena (and Venus) arrived. Serena is one dimensional? Barty has a lot of Steffi's qualities athletically but doesn't come close to the forehand.

@@adiracquetball Before the stabbing, this was how their head-to-head record stood - 6-4 Graf led. 3-3 in Slams (a tie). This paints a picture of a fierce rivalry they had in a WTA Graf once dominated until Seles arrived. So it is quite accurate to conclude that Graf struggled to contain Seles' power. The one thing you commented that I agree with is that Graf was a better mover than Serena - no argument there. Graf was faster with better court coverage (not to suggest that Serena isn't good). But to reiterate, Graf played a whole lot career tennis than what Serena has currently played now despite the fact that Serena has stay way longer in the WTA tour. Now a prime Graf against a prime SERENA? lol. That's what the argument is about, and you think Graf can win? Good luck with Graf containing Serena's power. That's all I can say.

You keep talking about Serena's power. If you're off balance because your opponent covers the court better than anyone you have ever played and puts you in uncomfortable positions then your power can be greatly neutralized.
