Muguruza played to win the match, Serena played to win the tournament. She wanted to face off against Sharapova in the Final.

Muguruza was an extremely tough opponent. In fact she beat Serena the year prior as well as the year after in the FO final. She was a much tougher opponent than Sharapova. Muguruza moved better than Sharapova and could hit with Serena in the middle of the court.

Serena can win without her serve, it's just that it takes her longer to do so. She is a good returner and can produce great ground strokes plus she has great defense. I never was crazy about her net game tho. Roger Federer said it best when things are not working against an opponent you have to figure it out, it's what makes tennis unique.
