There is always talk about the mental strength making the difference between the two, with Maria choking ever since her marginal loss to Serena in the AO semis 2005, but I think the fact that Serena's serve drastically improved while Maria's almost got worse was a very important factor in the development

Carillo would just say some crazy shit. I remember having to turn down the volume anytime she was commentating on Serena's matches. You know she was mad Serena accomplished so much more in tennis than she ever did. God don't like ugly.

I remember watching this live and hated that the commentators were routing for Sharapova. They always felt sorry for her that Serena beat her 20 times in a row. How many matches have they thought were over before Serena came back and took the match? So many.
