Something I don't know was done elsewhere but I remember a time we didn't name our babies until they reached 2 years of age because the chance of them reaching 2 was not guaranteed. Mom told me she would have had 12 bothers and sisters if half had lived beyond 2. Out of the 6 she is the eldest and is the last on standing. Public services announcement DON"T Smoke! Many of her siblings died from cancers and heart disease from smoking in their early 50s. Tracy was 53 and had both arms and legs amputated. Ted the youngest died from a heart attack at 33. I quit in 2000 and Mom quit in 2005

Hey Sue! That Pyramid is similar to a Pyramid at one of out Cemeteries here in Washington State, U.S.A. It's called Rucker's Tomb. Instead of being smooth, it's 'stepped'. It holds the remains of The Rucker Family, founding members of a city in the state. Great video!

So sad about the collapsing graves---but I agree with what you say--there is a beauty about nature taking over. In time they will all be gone. Life was extremely rough, makes me wonder exactly how many of us could survive then. I could belive it, the infant could have been alive at least for a few days, with many factors contributing to how lomg iy would live. I never saw anything like that shell plaque you found...that was awesome!

Great video Sue, thanks! Speaking of Egypt, when you were in England, did you happen to venture to Putney Vale Cemetery in London, where Howard Carter is buried, the man who found the tomb of Tutankhamen? AND I just read that Howard Carter's sponsor for the digs he did in Egypt, was the Earl of Carnarvon (George Edward Stanhope) who is buried at Beacon Hill, in Hampshire, which apparently overlooks Highclere Castle which used to be the seat of the Earls of Carnarvon. Also, Highclere Castle is where Downton Abbey was filmed, isn't that cool. Anyway, just FYI.

I find it difficult to imagine taking an infant away from her family after death. It doesn't matter what I think but if it is true it is very, very sad indeed. I loved the old headstones and you were able to read quite a few. Thank you for that Sue. There must have been some type of a communical disease among families and their babies and many did not survive. It almost looks like it is out in no where. But there must have been a town close by. Maybe they were afraid it was communical that they put them further out than usual. But those Howard's had been there a while also. Too bad we can't read a history of this area but a great video all the same. Thank you again Sue. All the best, Janet ♥️☘️🇨🇮

In England burials outside of the church were traditionally done for suicides, witches and possibly unbelievers. Is this similar to Ireland? The statement died by drowning is also interesting as often those bodies are lost at sea so memorialised and no body interred … that is to me the more interesting grave of this area!
@SerenitySueGraveyards
@SerenitySueGraveyards 2 ай бұрын
Yes, years ago, that certainly was the case, which is fairly sad. It's certainly a strange one and as you say drowning, may not have had a body to bury
@LindzTheLooneyOfLondon
@LindzTheLooneyOfLondon 2 ай бұрын
@@SerenitySueGraveyards the reason I learnt this is because my father was doing work in the local village next to a church and dug up a body outside the church walls. Though at the time it was thought to probably be the body of a witch as it was found at the bottom of a disused well he was digging out! The village was on route to a local hanging spot, which was accessed via the woods my grandparents lived and it is local lore that they often could not be bothered to go the whole way and would hang them on the oaks that now arch over the path. This may have some truth in that the pathway is named ‘the hang’. It has to be one of the darkest most cursed feeling places I have been, even as a child not knowing the name or so called history it was nothing to walk three times the speed through the area. My grandmother who was not superstitious also would avoid it or walk it at an unnatural speed! Judge Jeffries the hanging judge really left a lasting horrific imprint on Dorset! Your videos often remind me of my country routes and evening drives to investigate old country churches with my dad. I truly can not get enough x

Hi Sue and GV a very old and interesting place .However the pyramid kept making me laugh every time I caught sight of it. It reminded me of another pyramid that you said was stinky and ended up with💩 on your shoe. You were so funny😂.❤ you both God bless take care.

I wonder if any of the people who erected Egyptian style mausoleums ever went to Egypt to see the real deal. I noticed the temple style mausoleum had papyrus columns. The capital represents the papyrus plant, symbolic of Lower Egypt. They must have done their homework. Still hoping to see maps identifying where you are 😉

question, You have you ever used black chalk and a large sheet of paper and did a rubbing as we from the states call it? I have had surprisingly good results being able to read what is completely washed out.

my three cents about the child crying; i haven't watched yet im going to BUT; the same way that an old fashioned hearing device in the shape of a horn and old ladies would put it to their ear in the 1890s ; the shape magnifies/draws sound; must be a child crying down the street or over a few blocks and the shape of the buildings the cemetery the tombs the tolerances between stones must act as some kind of conduit ( similar principal to acoustics in ancient theater where you can hear a match being lit on the stage ) but the physical shape of the various proximate nearby surroundings must be conducting the sound from a few blocks away where the child is crying? thats what i think

G’day Sue just thinking about the child she could have been borne out of wedlock which back in those days was a real blight on the family, it was a shameful and disgusting and the poor children were kicked out of the family and it was a big secret. Take care and go and have a warm cuppa. John
