She lived on for 21 years after that critical time. Now she's been gone for 5 years and I think of her, how we sat there in the kitchen holding hands, telling each other it would be OK, thinking "what if she dies?"

This music and the acting of Tom Berenger made Platoon one of the best Vietnam war movies ever made. My grandfather was a First Sergeant E-8 and did two combat tours in Vietnam. Was there in 65 66 68 69 70 and retired in 71 after 20 years service. He saw serious action with the 82nd , 101st , and the 173rd airborne brigade. He was awarded four bronze Stars and was highly decorated. Our family is damn proud of the members of our family that served and was killed in action. I come from a military family. That was the only option back in the day.

Hi Tim, & my father was serving during Cold war in Soviet Navy for 30 year, but was lucky not to be sent killing people outside of his country... Vietnam war was a tragedy for both Vietnam & US people, lesson to be learned and never repeated... @@grachmuradyan4971 My grandfather was First Sergeant E8 Robert Carl Blevins Sr.. He did two combat tours in Vietnam. He joined Army Airborne in 51 and retired in 71. He was Airborne artillery. He first went to Vietnam in 65 with 14 years military experience. He was primed for Vietnam !!! He saw serious action with the 101st , 82 Airborne division, and the 173 Airborne brigade. He was very old school. In October 09 I was shot four times once in the stomach once in the right arm and twice in the right leg. I was in surgery for over 24 hours. They tell my family it didn't look good that I could go either way. I stayed in the 2 months drug induced coma. Me and my grandfather talked very little about the military. We talked about the Airborne and the jumps. But why he was alive I didn't know how high ranking a First Sergeant was. So I wasn't very inquisitive about his military experience. He died February 18th 2018. And I got a hold of the paperwork in the metals he left behind. I was very shocked at what I saw. He was highly decorated four bronze stars one with the V device for valor. November 3rd 1969 enemy Vietnam launched a surprise morning attack on FSB stinger and my grandfather repelled the attack inflicting maximum casualties upon the enemy and forcing them to withdraw. I'm at one of my grandfather's friends on Facebook and he said that my grandfather led the counter attack for the Americans. He said I should be damn proud of my grandfather's services to this country. I only ask my grandfather if he killed in Vietnam one time. When I came out of my 2-month drug-induced coma my grandparents came to visit me. I said granddad when he was in Vietnam did you ever kill anybody.in Vietnam. Then I waited about 7 seconds and said no granddad never mind I shouldn't even ask you that. He come back with,, well bud I'll tell you this much I was never arrested for anything. And we both laughed and left it at that and I never questioned him again. I got lots of pictures of Vietnam. My granddad could have bragged about this about that and trying to make itself on a high pedestal but he was a humble man. He died when I was 40 years old. And then those 40 years I killed a man never once came out of his mouth. God bless your family and thanks for their service !

Barber, a native of Pennsylvania born in 1910, he wrote Adagio for Strings in 1936 during a trip to Austria. He is said to have written it after reading Virgil's epic Aeneid which includes the tale of Aeneas who gave up the love of his life, Dido, for love of service to his government and the gods. Adagio for Strings brought the somewhat reclusive Barber immediate fame. It was voted the #1 favorite adagio some years ago in a survey.

In music theory it’s perfect. Short succinct and simple. Very touching to the mind and emotionally powerful. Simple in its design but difficult to master its subtleties. But most people especially my age will always relate it to the movie Platoon. However moving this piece of work wasn’t meant to be a representation of the suffering of war. It was a lament and expression of the loved and lost. Kudos to Oliver Stone for using this incredible piece of music to make his film inscribe its mark on history but this piece of music to beautiful to be pinned or labeled to just one movie. Mr. Barber is a master composer and has created a work of art that is nothing short of heaven for my auditory pleasure.

Imagine your a German soldier in ww1 all of your friends are dead their body's piled up next to you. As you run out into no man's land you see all the body's of the rest of your comrades you just fell pain, sadness, and dread fill your soul. As you walk to the enemy trench you just think of the memories of the ones you fought with then you hear the yelling of French, American, and British yelling at you as you slowly walk to the trench you get shot in your leg causing you to collapse to the ground now you are laying in the mud dying slowly then you see a young man over you he drags you to the trench they provide medical aid but nothing they do can cure the trauma that you and many other troops felt you survive you get to see your family after only a week at home you killed yourself due to the trauma of war. Thank you if you read this. It was 4 am when I wrote this. One thing before you go walk around in battlefield, arma, insurgency sandstorm, or any other game that's similar and listen to this song get immersed with the world your in and feel the pain of war.
