Although this is an older interview (it’s one of the last interviews Sergei gave prior to everything that changed after February 2022) it seemed like it would be interesting and different enough to share, especially for those who have not seen Sergei’s book. 💥LOOKING FOR POLUNIN BALLET PERFORMANCES? 💥 You're invited to visit this page on my channel where I have been working on organizing all the quality recordings of Sergei Polunin's performances I've found on KZbin. KZbin. : kzbin.infoplaylists?view=50&sort=dd&shelf_id=2

I like it very much, 'Sergei Polunin's' interview with Simon Hattenstone. One has to listen to the whole talk, to understand what Sergei Polunin's visions are, then and now. In my opinion, Polunin is keeping up with the times; he understands and he makes changes to fit what is happening now! Like, when he says: Now it is different pace, we have quick information, people's brains work differently now. So with the 'Romeo and Juliet' ballet, he would choreograph it perhaps, to make it 'modern looking'! Too, he wishes to give enormous opportunities for 'children' who want to follow a career in Classical Ballet as well as Contemporary, by organising a future startup funding of some kind. Thank you @ India Ink for sharing.

I'm glad you enjoyed the interview. Of course, a person's ideas and approaches change over time, but it's always helpful to know where someone is coming from. 🙂 And yes, Sergei has many ideas about how to adapt ballet for modern audiences! (Although his reference to Romeo and Juliet, as you might already know, is to the version that Johan Kobborg choreographed for him and that they performed in Verona in 2019 and in London in 2021 - a few months after this interview. While the setting and time-period of the drama remained the same and was not modernized, it was a shorter version of the story with no intervals. The idea being for it to play "like a movie" with the audience viewing the story in one sitting.) And his foundation not only provides for ballet education for dancers, but has given several young men opportunities to perform on an international stage with world-class ballet dancers as part of Sergei's shows 🥰 Since young dancers are required to play lead roles in Satori and Rasputin and young dancers (girls and boys) are required for his show "Little Red Riding Hood".

Thanks for working on the subtitles and uploading the finished product onto your channel. (Great thumbnail/screenshot, by the way!) Let's hope that through this video, thousands of people will find answers to their burning questions. Far too many people have only glanced at sensational headlines which were extremely unfair to Sergei. In this interview, Sergei was given a rare opportunity to tell his side of the story. His interview by Tatar FM was also very good, but it was in Russian and many people might have found it too exhausting to mentally decipher the auto-generated subtitles - you know what I mean!

Thank you. I hope it is helpful, or at least interesting for a few people! (I agree that the Tatar FM interview is very good. I think it is actually one of the most significant interviews he's done since Feb 2022, in terms of the topics discussed. I've done a little work on translation and subtitles for it and would like to provide them at some point for people who might be interested. But it's a lot of work for such a long interview, and I'm not sure how many people would find it useful, so I have to space out my time on all these projects...)

Yes. Unfortunately, this is one of the projects that had been planned for years and seemed to be making forward progress in 2021 (I believe it went through several directors from 2017-2021), but was cancelled (or at least put on indefinite hold) in 2022.
