Sergei Polunin Returns to the Stage After His Achilles Injury

[*See further updates below*] While Sergei anticipated it being another month or so before he would be back in full form, he was excited to participate along with many other ballet stars in the Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater's gala on July 28th and 29th, 2022, just four months after surgery on his Achilles tendon. Sergei was injured at a gala performance on March 3, 2022. Shortly afterwards he had surgery and treatment in Dubai, where he stayed with his family for several months. They have returned to Moscow and, as his recovery continues on a steady course, he has been scheduling tour dates for "Rasputin", "Dante Metanoia", and other performances. He has been enjoying family time with Elena, Mir, and new baby Dar, and he and Elena have officially announced their engagement and plans for a wedding next summer (2023). ** [UPDATE SEPTEMBER 23,2022 ] ** Sergei has posted a brief clip from a workout and is looking good. He is continuing to add dates to a very full upcoming performance schedule. His next scheduled performance is "Satori" in Tashkent on September 25 & 26th. This will be his first full show since his injury. On October 3rd Sergei will be one of the three artists performing together at the Oleg Efremov anniversary charity fundraiser at the Moscow Art Academic Theatre named after A. P. Chekhov. Sergei will be performing with two other renowned artists - pianist Andrey Korobeynikov and actor Konstantin Khabensky. This evening is a dedication to the outstanding artist and director, Oleg Efremov. After that Sergei has a full "Rasputin" tour scheduled in Russia - he currently has 8 performances scheduled from October 7th through November 7th. He and Elena are also both scheduled to perform at Olympic skating champion, Evgeni Plushenko's, anniversary show on November 12th. As shown in this video, the "Dante: Metanoia" premier in Moscow is scheduled for December 7th. Sergei's company is also working on a new dramatic ballet performance of "The Master and Margarita" which is supposed to premier sometime next Spring (2023) and it's my understanding it will feature Sergei and Elena in the leading roles. Due to their busy performance schedule, Elena has said they are planning their wedding for Summer 2023. He is continuing to add dates to a very full upcoming performance schedule, so he is obviously very confident in how his recovery is progressing. His next scheduled performance is "Satori" in Tashknet next week (September 25 & 26th). This will be his first full show since his injury. After that he has a very full "Rasputin" tour scheduled in Russia with dates throughout October and November (with more dates added since this video was made. The first performance is in Moscow on October 7th.) He and Elena are also both scheduled to perform at Olympic skating champion, Evgeni Plushenko's, anniversary show on November 12th. The Dante premier in Moscow is still scheduled for December 7th. And Sergei's company is also working on a new dramatic ballet performance of "The Master and Margarita" which is supposed to be premiering sometime in spring 2023 and it's my understanding it will feature Sergei and Elena in the leading roles.

Sergei had a long rest before his return and is now very busy with touring and dancing again. He seems not to enjoy being inactive for long! He’s a very creative person and gets a lot of life and energy from being able to dance for audiences and in collaborating with other artists. When he feels he needs another break I’m sure he’ll take it.🙂
