I have recovered from three strokes that impacted my left hand coordination. I have used these exercises and they really work. While I have not fully reclaimed past skills, these none the less have moved me forward more than any other simple routine

I started doing this a few years ago, drawing from "Pumping Nylon", which I also recommend. I often do this while watching TV. It really helped me develop some left hand (fretting) independence. IOW, this is great advice.

We also have a side to side, slides and bends all within the left hand , as long as you allow the rest of your body to bend and flex around the guitar

There is a similar if not exactly the same exercises suggested in Scott Tennant's 'Pumping Nylon'. Well, there are no secretes in playing the guitar, the fretboard gives us a wide range of motions to explore in various combinations of fingers.

Moving 1 and 3 independent of 2 and 4 is like a tongue twister for the fingers. Kind of like patting your head with one hand while rubbing your belly with the other. Very hard

I did not understand, you only need to touch the strings? Clamp frets do not need?
@ClassicalGuitarShed7 жыл бұрын
Hi Evgen, You can do it both ways. At first I would just touch the strings, so you can train with less tension. Then, when you're comfortable with that, add in the pressure. Good luck!

Thanks for the answer. Beautiful lessons.

why can we tune lower the string from 440 Hz to 420Hz? It also good for left hand and good for tremolo
@CC-yq5bw7 жыл бұрын
This looks relatively similar to Spider exercises.
@tasmedic2 жыл бұрын
Why is this exercise not done in the first position, so you're sure your left fingers can stretch far enough up the fretboard for all those horribly tough pieces? Practicing at the 5th position I would have though just leads your left fingers into a false sense of security.

All of these movements can be found for example in any Prelude or Fugue by Bach. Isolate a measure, practice it with this intention, and at the same time play real music and learn a piece. Bach will reveal your technical weaknesses better than anything. That's not to say that these exercises wouldn't work, but frankly it's boring.
@worthingtonproductions25795 жыл бұрын
Kyle Smith it’s only boring with perception, if you practice anything with knowing your growing in skill towards your skill goal it should never be boring and if it is you gotta go deeper in thought about said philosophy’s. That being said your still 100% right about Bach. He should be the technical prowess to move towards with any musician with any instrument.
