I remember this album from when I was just 6 years old. My father had it and played it and I loved everyone of their songs throughout my life and listened to their songs every now and then. Their smooth silky beautiful voices are so exquisite to listen to! I still remember the lyrics to every one of their songs. I'm 62 years old now and forever a Sergio Mendez & Brasil 66 fan for life!

I was 24 when I purchased this album. I have it still and play it often. Such genius in its arrangements with those beautiful voices. SO much better than most of what is out there today. The lyrics are so unique and memorable. I'll be 80 next year, and I will play this as long as I'm here to do so.

Sérgio Santos Mendes February 11, 1941 - September 5, 2024) was a Brazilian musician. His career took off with worldwide hits by his band Brasil '66. He had over 55 releases and was known for playing bossa nova, often crossed with funk. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2012 as co-writer of the song "Real in Rio" from the animated film Rio. Mendes was primarily known in the United States, where his albums were recorded and where most of his touring took place. He was married to Gracinha Leporace, who performed with him from the early 1970s. Mendes collaborated with many artists, including the Black Eyed Peas, with whom he re-recorded in 2006 a version of his 1966 breakthrough hit "Mas que Nada". Timeless features a wide array of neo-soul and alternative hip hop guest artists, including the Black Eyed Peas, Erykah Badu, Black Thought, Jill Scott, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, India.Arie, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Q-Tip, Stevie Wonder and Pharoahe Monch. It was released February 14, 2006, by Concord Records. The 2006 re-recorded version of "Mas que Nada" with the Black Eyed Peas had additional vocals by Gracinha Leporace (Mendes' wife); this version is included on Timeless. In Brazil, the song is also well known for being the theme song for the local television channel Globo's Estrelas. The Black Eyed Peas' version contains a sample of their 2004 hit "Hey Mama". The re-recorded song became popular on many European charts. On the UK Singles Chart, the song entered at No. 29 and peaked at No. 6 on its second week on the chart. In 2013 he made an appearance dancing along for one of the segments Pharrell Williams' "24 Hours of Happy."In 2012 Mendes was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song as co-writer of the song "Real in Rio" from the animated film Rio.[6] He was the co-producer on the soundtrack albums for two animated films about his homeland: 2011's Rio and its 2014 sequel.[citation needed] He was the subject of the 2020 documentary Sergio Mendes in the Key of Joy.[2] He gave his final performances in November 2023. He had over 55 releases and was known for playing bossa nova, often crossed with funk. Death Mendes died from complications of long COVID at a hospital in Los Angeles on September 5, 2024, at the age of 83. Take care and God bless

I grew up listening to this in the 60s. It was a wonderful soundtrack for life. Today, music has been weaponized, to create strife, tension, and anxiety. Turn on your car radio and flip through the dial, if you can stand it.

Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66: I think these are some of the greatest love songs ever written and performed. They are so personal and beautiful. You want to experience every word. I'm not sure if Sergio followed this beautiful path with his later recordings, but these songs are unique and breathtaking. World Class!

This was a style of music I would have never listened to or picked up on my own. But in the 1960s I was in the Navy and the intercom on the ship I was serving on was always blasting with Sergio Mendes. I didn't like it at first, being a hard rocker, but I began to listen and realized how wonderfully things were put together and how smooth it was, and became a big fan!

I always enjoyed playing cd mixes for my customers. I would make a new cd mix before my shift and play it all night long.

Sergio Mendes and Herb Alpert, along with a few others, were at the cutting edge of introducing us to the Latin sound during the heyday of the British Invasion (Beatles, Stones, etc,.) in the '60s and then into the '70s. Both groups endured and their sounds remain classics. Great music,. Thanks for posting, Mr. Vinyl.
