I could sense another 2016/2019 situation for Red Bull and their sister team, with the underperforming driver in RBR being denoted to the sister team and promoting the lead sister team driver to RBR. So Perez could essentially be replaced by Tsunoda and be demoted to RB

Hemut has said due to the nature of the sister team Perez can’t go there, if he leaves Red Bull he will have to find a seat outside the redbull family, Lawson would likely take the vcarb spot

If he gets replaced, it will be by Ricciardo. Yuki is definitely quicker right now, but Red Bull just seems like they don't want him on the main team. He might just be an eternal sister team driver. I hope I'm wrong, though, and that he will get his chance!

@@wohnie39 I think Red Bull might be acting with some long term thought. They seem to have noticed that Yuki is becoming a very fine driver and is developing a killer instinct. Putting him in RB before he has refined his killer instinct risks his development as MV is hardly a supportive team mate. Given the noise about MV maybe going to Mercedes in 2026 by Keeping Yuki at VCARB they hold him in reserve and continue his development for a seat at Red Bul in '26. If they were 100% confident of keeping MV then chucking him into RB wouldn't matter since they have the top driver and if his development stalled they wouldn't care. But with MV potentially leaving they need to maximise Yuki and another year at VCARB will allow them to develop him without MV getting his feelings hurt ready to step up for '26.

@@MrCarrera28 I truly hope you're right, Yuki definitely deserves the chance! Although as long as Red Bull is fighting for championships and has a clear top car, I don't really see MV leaving, unless, of course, some problems arise. If Yuki does end up getting that chance alongside MV as the 2nd driver, I hope he flourishes instead of crumbling under the pressure. So far, Max seems to have destroyed the mental of every teammate he's driven with, which hopefully won't be the case with Yuki.

@@wohnie39 In '26 RB will no longer have an engine built by Honda and they will be relying on their own factory to build the engine for the new regs and Ford will be providing the hybrid technology without recent F1 experience and RB will no longer have Adrian Newey. Mercedes are rumoured to furthest along the development path for the new engine and likely have the biggest engine budget. That could make Mercedes an attractive location for MV. Yuki is an asset they need to nurture rather than throw to the wolves and he needs more development to be ready for someone like MV.

Red Bull need to have their Bottas for that second car. They need their Rubens. Someone who consistently qualifies the car where it belongs and is actually FAST but isn't really a threat to Max. Someone who can be counted on strategically. Perez is literally not a factor in about half of the races and it's been like that for three and a half years now.

Yep a sainz would be technically like that, sainz isn't a championship rival to max he will win a few races but he wouldn't be fighting max for most of the season only ABIT behind max

My theory, Perez should be sacked and give Danny a chance. If Danny gets the RBR seat, give Lawson a go in VCARB. If Danny fails to meet up the performance by the end of 2024, either Yuki or Lawson will take that seat, which gives yet another free seat for VCARB. With the likes of Hadjar or someone else.

something i think you missed is that theres a performance clause in checo's contract that states he must not be more than 100 championship points and 5 places behind verstappen by the time the belgian gp rolls around, which means his contract could become void

I just keep on having flash backs to the collision between Max and Danny Ric where Max pulled the double move to defend his place but finished up putting both Red Bulls out of the race. I do think Max sucks the life out of his team mates, I don't know the reason but it is too common. Lawson getting the RB seat would give him some F1 laps and give him to be the chance to be Verstappen's replacement

He might end up breaking championship records, but it's clear he needs the best equipment to further his legacy. He's no Senna.

I know ricciardo is often slagged off by the fans but to me he is obviously the better fit for the seat. It seems harsh on Yuki but he's not the sort of driver they want to pair with Verstappen and Danny is. Also he's tested in the car and it went well. He's mature and won't crash into his teammate and his age means that they can scout young talent to replace him with when he retires. Its an obvious fit

If Red Bull do not want to keep Checo for '25 then they would be better off getting rid of him at the mid year break as he is not scoring enough points and they may as well use his seat to try another driver without having to make a full year commitment. I think Yuki is not ready to deal with a team like Red Bull, which is completely set up around Verstappen, builds car to suit MV's driving style and which does not provide a lot of support for its Number 2 drivers. He is however only a year or two away from developing what is needed and it would be a shame to have invested so much in him, just to rush it unnecessarily. Option 1 Put DR3 in the seat after the mid season break and put Liam Lawson in the VCARB for the rest of the season. If Lawson is as good as Red Bull think he will be better in 2025 after having raced in 2024. DR3 either steps up and delivers in which case he gets the '25 contract otherwise he finishes up with Red Bull having been given every opportunity. Option 2 Buy Bottas out of his contract and put him in the Red Bull for the rest of '24 and all of '25 with an option for '25. Ideally though Red Bull should have signed Hulkenberg for 25 and 26 and signed Yuki and Lawson for VCARB. DR3 would then have had time to negotiate with Alpine, Williams and HAAS for next year. Bottas has proven he is a reliable number 2 driver, he is at the end of his career so he won't care about trying to match MV and a long term commercial relationship with Red Bull post his driving career will encourage him to toe the line. On his day DR3 is definitely faster than Bottas but his day is happening less consistently and Bottas will bring the Red Bull home in the points, will do some of the sponsorship work and will not rock the boat. If MV leaves you have a reliable driver for testing and development and his presence will not make top drivers question going to Red Bull to replace MV.

Maybe Perez is just a mediocre driver, maybe the toxic atmosphere at Red Bull is only a small factor, but he had a lot of capital in '22 and should have used it on a switch.
