Albon is a sound lad. Always nice to hear an F1 driver call out the F1/FIA b.s. and that the carbon footprint of F1 is not really being down to the cars.
@Alan.livingston4 ай бұрын
I’m sure the Mercedes power plant PR team are going to send Williams a strongly worded email about keeping their drivers on script after he said that. The whole spiel about pollution reduction and blah de blah is tied back to marquees trying to sell road cars so they need to draw a line for the consumer between what they see on the track and what they see in the show room. Personally I love that Albon went there. The hybrids are engineering marvels, but they make the cars too large and heavy. Bring back straight turbo ICE on 100% renewable fuels and for the love of god bring back refuelling so we aren’t bored to death watching whale cars lumbering around the track for half the race like GT cars. We have DRS and other mechanisms in ‘26 to improve over taking so the whole argument about passing in the pits is null and void.
@Trendyflute4 ай бұрын
I'm a fan of the "why not both?" approach, I guess I'm in the minority but the technology of the efficient powertrains sets F1 apart from a lot of other series where I can shrug because the technology is decades out of date or barely there, and there's gotta be some tech trickling into road cars because we're starting to see ERS-H equivalent turbocharging in sub-hypercar production road cars (new 911 Hybrid) which is still a great driver's car and proper 911, but absolutely agree the overall footprint of the sport is where you're going to make the biggest impact. Overall think Albon is tops, he's got a good head on his shoulders and is entertaining in and out of the car.
@paperplane-db8qf3 ай бұрын
No one claimed the carbon footprint of F1 is down to the engines. The only people who do are the anti-environment “anti-woke” guys like “you’re driving gas guzzling engines”. But engine manufacturers want eco-friendly engines because they can transfer that technology to their road cars. Which does help the environment more than switching to V10s for no reason.

I agree completely but also makes me sad that Williams is now a smaller team, such history. They have the talent with Alex, James and behind the scenes and whilst I understand money is an issue, it's less of one with the cost cap so it pains me to understand why

@jolttsp3 ай бұрын
Idk I don't feel like max is terribly curated. I think it's more of a personality thing. People who are comfortable with who they are will be genuine while people figuring out who they are will be more careful and try to crowd please.. it's a lot more nuanced than that though because being "comfortable with who you are" is a blanket statement that covers tons about a person, and isn't always an accurate description anyway.

Really enjoyed the interview! Alex's response on the green showboating feels like the perfect answer: give us simple, angry engines powered by synthetic fuels. We will always need liquid fuel in certain applications (although petroleum will likely be fine for centuries to come) so spending effort developing them makes sense. Battery tech is obviously critical but just not great for racing, at least the route F1 has gone down. Indycar seems to have a better setup with their limited push to pass.
