Perez has really had a roller coaster last 4 races in the desert: - Bahrain 20 - engine failure with a few laps to the end (cost him P3) - Sakhir 20 - Dropped down to last after contact ... then went on to take a legendary win - Abu Dhabi 20 - Started at the back and retired early on with a mechanical issue - Bahrain 21 - Started from the pitlane due to a mechanical issue, and went on to finish P5

Can I just say, as a dutch fan I´ve always been a fan of Checo. I was so excited when RB gave him a place, he still deserves to be on the grid! When the Quali started I was heartbroken after RB put him on the wrong strategy. Medium was not the call for Q2 especially since it was his first qualifying in a RB, let the man get used to the car. Than on sunday, I kept thinking about how Checo can cut through traffic, I was positive he could still fight for p4/p3, but than disaster happend. Engine failure on the formation lap, I was so worried, I was already thinking about the negative things certain people would say about him. Luckily he could get the car moving again and boy what a race he did. Cutting through traffic like it was nothing. Sure the SC at the start helped him but still, new season, new car, new team and he still peformed like a champ. Can't wait to see him fighting for podiums, he deserves them for sure!

I think it's because he to some degree has been considered a pay-to-drive driver and has not been the flashiest, even though he is a very solid driver that has the consistency and racing craft to be at the front of the field every race. For example, there is no way Albon recovers to 5th like Checo did this race, I imagine he would have burned his tires trying to pass the guys around 8th to 10th position and wouldn't be able to go any further up. For Perez however I'm thinking this was slightly above as expected from him. Idk really know though, I don't know him from before F1.
