My theory is to how Senna was so fast in Monaco was the throttle blips, which always ensured that he would be on the power most of the time and Monaco is one of the slowest tracks on the F1 calendar in terms of top speed. Senna maintaining a consistent pace would mean he would shave a tenth at every corner.

Gilles: "Hey Ayrton, hold my beer" (that's being pragmatically and rationally honest). "The two men shared many qualities: FIA doctor Professor Sid Watkins considered Senna and Villeneuve, amongst all the drivers with whom he has worked, the most similar not only on the track but also in terms of their terrifying behavior behind the wheel of a road car. “Because they were so confident, they didn’t allow for ordinary mortals. With people at their level, the biggest chance of an accident was always what the other driver’s reaction was going to be to what they were doing. “They were very alike in lots of ways, those two: both chargers on the track, but wonderfully gentle human beings. What distinguishes people like them from the rest is their flair, their total commitment, and their precision. If you were out on the track in the medical car, they’d miss you by a centimeter as they came by. That would never worry me with people like them - but some of these others, I wouldn’t give them a meter!” And yet, despite Villeneuve’s heroic status among die-hard F1 fans, some of whom were not yet born when he died, it is some how doubtful that all but the most serious followers of the sport would go to see a film about him. This could because he died before F1 was truly a global TV sport, because his death occurred during qualifying when fewer viewers are likely to tune in, or because, aside from being a demon behind the wheel, he was merely a chap who was partial to playing the piano, was married with two children and was by all accounts an absolutely lovely bloke?" "One of the most daring drivers in F1 history, Gilles Villeneuve is considered one of the greatest divers of all time among those who never won a world championship. Jacques Villeneuve’s father, Gilles was an inspiration to Senna due to his way of driving, always pushing the envelope." These new kids to the sport 🤣

This is Lotus with the Honda 1.5 Turbo [older version] and Senna used the ''active suspension''. Schumacher did it due to always setting his Car's up ''pointedly'' meaning they had much more oversteer, on his theory that it made the chassis go 'neutral'' in high speed corners and he would blip the throttle in the low speed ones, to keep the suspension moving around, i.e. unsettle the Car in the Low Speed ones on its suspension, so that the Oversteer he had dialled in was much less noticeable..

The lack of protection for the driver is mind boggling compared to the protection afforded them today. The machines in that era were death traps.

NO where near it - crash tested carbon fibre tubs with burst proof bladder fuel tanks - pit to car monitoring - No - you need to go back the Colin chapman era when they were driving V8 fuel tanks - many, many perished .. I started watching F1 when Piers Courage was driving - ironically killed 52 years before this comment 21st June 1970.

@wellingtonpeclat5926 Жыл бұрын

Can we all just take a minute and think, that this footage is taken from the T-Cam , it's not only the fact that back then they were shifting manually, it's also the pace and the narrowness of the specific circuit, and we are seeing now more friendly to drive cars, don't misunderstood me, i am not trying to reduce the efforts and the stamina and the fitness level of the modern day racing drivers, don't forget that they are losing a large amount of weight only from the sweat,and plus the effort and the g forces that they are subjected when turning or braking hard in a turn, still it's difficult to tame an open 4 wheel beast that rates 980 to 1000 hp , but the spectacle that those decades had to offer the names the champions lined up in the grid Prost,berger, de cesaris , piquet, senna,and they were cars hard to drive on a competitive pace to achieve a good lap time , or a pole, plus the sound of those v6 turbos back then cannot be compared with today's, i mean they all sound like Bosch electric vacuum cleaners my vacuum is more louder at turbo setting than a machinery that is mounted on an today's F1 car. This is only my personal opinion. The sport lacks of great driver's, of personalities , i am not driver orientated, the cars are wider, aerodynamically balanced, it's more easy for a driver even if he is not a champion, to drive in a competitive pace a modern car, as long he has made the proper pre workout routine and prepare his body for what will follow during a race day. For sure not many, only few chosen ones can make it to drive or even start an F1 car without stalling the engine many times, furthermore to drive it almost flat out.
