It’s been so long must be 30 odd years had big problems with the transfer box got very hot and welded the gear to the shaft .it was a right pigs ear to repair.but I cannot remember the front end of the box being very hard to take to bits ,mind you spent weeks smelling of E P 90 OIL it was everywhere. The more I think about it ? Your gear box is very dry no oil .lucky for you.

Sure that “bent” high/low lever isn’t one for a 2.6 6-cylinder? I hate the use of sealant. Most gaskets seal perfectly well with a smear of grease to hold them in place during assembly. Sealant is rarely needed. Not only does it make stripping harder and need a lot of clean up before rebuilding, but the potential for sealant squeezing out and blocking things is high. I wonder if they had the pivoting H-shaped bar on one of the selector rods correctly engage in the spigot on the other shaft. That is for the 4wd selection system and can easily misalign while fumbling the two shafts together back into the casing along with all the other loose bits.

Acetone works well to clean up the RTV. What do you use in your parts washer? The environmentally safe stuff doesn't seem to remove much grease. Cheers, C

This was a difficult sealer to remove - even tried the propane torch to try and soften it. I mix 50/50 petrol and diesel in the washer
