Next time on Would I Lie To You... Bob: "I power my diesel car with pig's urine to reduce its emissions"
@konayasai9 ай бұрын
And, as always with Bob, it'll be true. AdBlue is indeed a thing for decreasing NOx emissions in some diesel systems. It is indeed urea and water. Urea is indeed the main nitrogen-containing substance in mammalian urine. It all checks out.
@mdrzn9 ай бұрын
@@konayasai AdBlue is DEFINITELY not just "pig urine" and water. Google it, it's been debunked, AdBlue is actually a high purity chemically produced carbamide solution dissolved in high purity de-ionised water. Anything other than a high purity solution will cause the porous head of the SCR to fail just like limescale would in a kettle. Putting urine from any species into your machine's AdBlue tank would cause irreversible damage to the SCR. I get the joke but let's not go around and say "it's true".

8:51 This is actually a thing. In the U.S., diesel engines manufactured after a certain year (2017?) have to have Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) from a separate tank injected into the exhaust manifold to react with the exhaust. DEF is basically 32.5% urea and 67.5% de-ionized water. The DEF is injected into the hot exhaust where the heat converts it to simple ammonia, which then reacts with the Nitric Oxide (NO) and Nitric Dioxide (NO2) and convert them (both of them together are referred to as NOx) to nitrogen and water - which are then released out the exhaust pipe. But it doesn't eliminate all the emissions, only the NOx.
@billyeveryteen73282 ай бұрын
I mostly wanted to come in here and mention how much I love Sally Phillips. While I'm here, I did want to mention that I may have found the actual product Sally wasn't allowed to bring in. Purina makes a product called "High Octane Heavy Weight Show Supplement" for show pigs and other livestock. As per Alex, the website's product page does describe it as "extremely palatable." I couldn't find any mention of it being illegal in the UK, but I imagine that's true if Sally wasn't allowed to bring it in; or maybe she just said it was illegal because they couldn't clear the brand. And apparently Bob's diesel supplement AdBlue does contain urea, but it's synthetic, not made from pigs' urine. But, it must be pointed out that it's apparently a really common misconception, because the people who make AdBlue had to point that out on their own website.
