This is my favorite series I've ever read, Scarlet or Cress being my favorite individual book. There are a couple things that are very predictable, but it didn't bother me. I never read The Hunger Games series, so I wasn't able to connect it to anything. I liked having 9, 10 including Levana, points of view. I agree that Cinder's development was a bit rushed but worked because of the fast pace of the plot.

I never get sick of hearing people gush about this series and this video was no exception. It's one of my all-time faves too. I agree that every single character is great. There is definitely a bit of predictability based on the fact that they are based on well known tales, but there were still things that surprised me. Winter was a lot like Mockingjay and that was a bit annoying. I loved Fairest, but not many people seem to like it. I liked that you recommended it. I think it gave a lot of great backstory.

Haha...Another problem I had is that nobody died...I mean we have like 10 different characters, some of them have to die...I didn't want any of them to die but that would have made it feel more real. But besides that..This was an epic, heart poundingly edge of your seat thriling conclusion

Love this series, just finished it last night! I just love how fun it is to read, and it's a pretty feel good series throughout despite the challenges the characters face. I also really like the absence of love triangles and the different ways each relationship develops. Also a big fan of fairytale adaptations !!

Loved hearing your review of this series. I am reading Cress at the moment (60% through it). I loved the characters of Cinder and Scarlet, Cress is a little harder for me to like for some reason. +Bedtime Bookworm I'd hate for you to go to all that trouble based on my recommendation and then end up hating it! So do whatever works best for you! Winter takes you into the Lunar kingdom as a setting, and I felt that Fairest did a much better job at laying out that setting than Winter itself does. Plus, now that you've met Winter the character at the end of Cress, Fairest gives you the best background of her character, and Levana. It really felt like Meyer was writing all of this background to add to Winter and the book got way too long so she split off the flashback portions for their own book. It still felt like part of the same story though. To me, I needed it for the richer detail, but that's not to say everyone would!

I'm also not 100% in the mood for Winter, so that's playing into the decision as well - don't worry, the pressure isn't on you haha! I'm looking forward to reading them but I'm kinda slumpy right now and I would rather wait and read it when I'm more excited about it.

I thought Iko was pronounced ee_kOH? Idk but I really liked the review. I wish that TLC hadn't ended and that marissa Mayer would have created a book or maybe a new compilation of stories where she told us what happened to the Rampion Crew. Did the rampion crew start new traditions? Do they reminisce about the revolution? Do they visit each other often or comm? After the revolution, I would have liked to see the crew together again and just goofing off a little, and maybe for new problems and scenarios to arise in the group. What if the rampion crew were to have kids? What if the rampion crew were kidnapped or endangered, and the Rampion crew 2.0 had to save them? I also would have liked to see the relationship between Kinney and Iko evolve, along with Kinney becoming closer to the rest of the gang, eventually making him the tenth member. Also, I wish scarlet would have focused on the relationship between Emilie and scarlet more. Emilie and scarlet are best friends after all. I wish she had been a bigger character like I wish kinney was. Kinney did become a main character in wires and nerve, I believe, so he and Emilie could have become the 10th and 11th member of the group. And alpha Strom? Why does no one remember him? Why was his death only given a page of acknowledgment? Alpha Strom proved to be a good friend andloyal, even if he wasnt a huge character. His banter with scarlet was hilarious. I wish he had lived to become a 12th member of the Rampion crew, and maybe get together with Emilie. The lunar chronicles were the best books I have ever read in my life. Idk why the fandom for it is so small. There's a huge game of thrones fandom, so why isn't there a bigger TLC fandom? Thank u for this book review. It helped me gain perspective on the books in a new way 😁 plz do more ur videos r amazing

I thought I had read something where Marissa Meyer said Iko was pronounced like eye-co, but it's been a while so I have no idea where. It's a great series! The fandom seemed more active a few years ago before the series ended. I would LOVE to see it get a show adaptation with the quality of GOT! And yes I was bummed that the 2 graphic novels didn't focus very much on Iko and Kinney's relationship, I had expected it would. 😟

I definitely thought Fairest was necessary too. It's actually my favorite of the series because I loved learning Levana's backstory. She's just out there, man. Way out there. I couldn't believe some of things she did in the past. I haven't gotten to Winter yet, but 11 is a lot of POVs.

I did see the "twist" coming but it did not take away from how fun it was to read Cinder. I ended up giving it only 3.5/5 stars because of that, but for me, that's still a good reading. I really enjoyed the characters. Based entirely on Cinder, I think that is where Meyers talents lie. Her characters are so fun and lovable in the first book and I'm really excited to see all the other characters and how their stories play out.

Most people say they didn't notice the Panem themes, and like I said I could definitely see WHY the society was that way but it was just a personal pet peeve! I loved the fact that even though the stories stick so closely to the originals, the world still makes it unique. Particularly in Cinder, I found myself wondering how important elements of the story like the pumpkin and such were going to actually come into play in the world she'd created, so I felt that even in the midst of predictability, there was still some unpredictability. If that at all makes sense. Lol.

+sarahannereads Yeah, it does! And I liked that Meyer paid homage to the actual original tales and not just the popularized stories we know. Like in Winter, there are several versions of Snow White that claim to be the "original" and in some of the oldest tales it was a hair comb that was poisoned, but in others it was the poisoned apple. Winter had a dream about Levana giving her a comb, and then there were the apple candies. Cress dealt with some original traits from Rapunzel- the fall from the tower, the blindness, the tears. I just loved it! And what was great was that after their story was over in their book, the next book(s) the characters were free to have all new stories so it always felt fresh.

Is The lunar Chronicles a series that all goes together, or is it different stories that all take place in the same world? I just want to know if someone was to read Cinder if you HAD to read Scarlett to finish the story, or if Scarlett is a completely different story in itself just in the same world as cinder.

They are all part of the same story, just following different characters. You could read Cinder and then quit if you feel you didn't need more, though I don't think it would be satisfying by itself.

You should read them in publication order. Start with Cinder. Even though Fairest is chronologically first, it will spoil 3 of the other books if you read it first.

This is one of the best YA books ever. The author put a lot of emphasis on the relationships between the characters. The romance is cute and non-pornagraphic. (theres nothing wrong with a little steam, but a lot of books focus too much on the physical aspect of romance :/)

heavy romance? no these are young adult books. And that's what you get. but in a way that an adult can tolerate. I need to fit in an adult book between reading these. Not that I don'y love them. They are well good. I would throw them at any teenager I can.

I don't mean sex, I mean romance. There is a large emphasis on couples, crushes, swooning, and kisses in these books. Adult is not synonymous with romance. There is far more romance in these YA books than there is in adults books like Gone Girl, The Woman in the Window, Crazy Rich Asians. Romance is a genre, not an age, and MANY teenagers I've known are going through their hormonal awakening and are quite interested in romance.

Between Chapters you're making me think of Cress now... How she wants to be near Thorne. lol Still though I wouldn't call these romance heavy. And with what is in the books I do get sexually frustrated. lol Like I'm gonna be satisfied with a kiss and being held. They work towards a relationship all of them and then they cool off to what you could almost discribe as sisterly love. Because they can't have sex which is the natural thing for two people who like each other to do. So no progression relationship wise. Scarlet is 18 and I cannot understand why she wouldn't have her wicked way with Wolf while they had the time on Thornes ship. Instead they distanced themselves cos they couldn't go any further or progress.

Between Chapters don't get we wrong. I love these books. They are so thought through and clever. In fact besides the Fever series this is my top choice for hbo to pick up and make a series out off. Or hell, seeing what Stars has done with Outlander, that'd work too. But I do need to read a book were people get laid in between every one of the lunar books. I'm half way through Cress and I can feel how I need to maybe pick up a Demonica book or something after I finish it before I go to fairest or winter. lol

That's fine if your preference is to read sexier books between these! Not everyone needs sex, and the choice to abstain or wait is perfectly valid. There are books for everyone's preferences. I have many parents, teens, and adult readers ask me about romance in YA books because they simply don't like reading about crushes or couples. I agree that these would make a great show!

Thanks. I'm currently struggling through Scarlet (just finished book 2), which is difficult becuase Scarlet acts like an entitled little bitch throwing her weight around. This gave me some hope she has a character arc and will become more likeable, because right now I can't stand her.
