Eric Fleming was Sheriff Wes Dunn in this "Peace Officer" Bonanza Episode (February, 1966). In September of that same year he drowned in the Huallaga River, Peru, after his canoe capsized in a filming scene. Eric starred in Rawhide (1959 -- 1965) as Trail Boss Gil Favor.

It emphasizes using the justice system rather than vigilante justice. It's a classic "the Cartwrights take the high road" ending. And as pointed out by a another commentator said, and as a former police officer, I fully agree, that Sheriff Dunn got what was coming to him. He was operating outside if the very system he was sworn to uphold, and even criminals have the right to self defense when a cop decides to be his own judge, jury, and execution.
